Get Rid of the Gold

I reinstalled City of Heroes yesterday from the Going Rogue disc, which turned out to be a mistake. I mean, the game loads and works fine, but the loading screen and the character selection screens are all so damn... gold. Even the game's icon is now gold. Is there any way to go back to the good ol' blue?

Right-click your icon, choose Properties, and find the button that says "Change Icon". You can pick one of the old icons from there.

In the same window, in the field labeled "Target", my shortcut says:

Code:
"C:\Program Files\City of Heroes\CohUpdater.exe"
WITH the quotes. I get the blue loading screen.

My icon has ["C:\Program Files (x86)\City of Heroes\CohUpdater.exe" -uiskin 0] as the target.
-uiskin 0 gives the blue CoH screen.
-uiskin 1 gives the red CoV screen.
-uiskin 2 gives the gold GR screen.

Thank you! I had been annoyed by the gold screen, too. I checked the icon properties, changed the 2 to 0, and I'm a happy camper again.

The gold really needs to be turned down. A lot. I love Praetoria, and playing in it is so much fun, but the hardest part is making a character to go there in the first place. Everything is so bright I can barely see my costume or power effects. It's gotten to where I have to design my character on blue-side then save the costume and powers to load on blinding-gold-side.

The blue is too dark for me, and the red is unspeakably dim. And I keep my monitor as bright as I can! You guys are weirdos.

Though honestly, I think it's more of a "how each person sees a color" thing. The vast majority of blues are rather dark and obscuring to me, the powerful bright gold is so welcome to my eyes!

Alternately, having no flags should make it blue.
Another way of using the CoV screen is to use the shorter flag -cov

I couldn't agree more, and that's what I've been doing as well.

I find that clicking the "night" option down by the zoom makes things bearable.

I said the same thing when I got into Beta. Then I was told that they had already toned it down considerably.

A disturbing thought if it is indeed true.

It was brighter. So bright it was very nearly white. Not exactly white, just nearly. With white mixed into the image.

If anyone is interested I did a purple background for the Praetorian UI, which can be found in my signature.

I concur. I don't like how bright the Praetoria load screens and charicter select screens are. I generally play in a dim room with quiet music in the background (is that as wierd as it sounded?) The bright screens make me wince every time.

I gotta make pain. I gotta make things right. I gotta stop what's comin'. 'Least I gotta try.

That actually looks really nice. I think I'll give it a try.

Heh. You just reminded me of back when I worked Directory Assistance at AT&T. One of the supervisors was a useless excuse for a human being and we learned by accident when she was remotely monitoring us that she couldn't stand really bright colors on the computer screen.

So we developed an early warning system to let us know when she was listening in on our calls. Whenever she was working on the floor we'd go into Windows properties and change the all the colors to the blinding neon white on white.

Before you knew it she was going up to the person she was going to monitor and telling them to change the colors back to normal. That was the persons heads up to be on their best behavior until they saw her tell someone else to change their color scheme.

It took that knucklehead a year and a half to figure out what we were doing. She spent another 6 months complaining to her boss about what we were doing before he told her to her face that he thought what we were doing was funny as hell and if she didn't like it she could quit.

You really didn't mean to sound like that, did you?

I agree though, the gold thoroughly sucks. I'll bet Chompie's in a pretty small minority.
