A weekend moderator

Someone to go through on weekends or off hours and simply delete posts with no redeeming value or issue emergency bans if necessary.

Totally agree.

It seems like a new trolling game has arisen around here - post something that would be deleted in a heartbeat during the week, just because you can do that with no weekend mods.

Mods cost money. Even if we're just talking about overtime for existing mods.

Is it really so earth-shattering that the ******* come out in force late Friday night only to be dealt with on Monday morning?

Honestly, I'd consider adding a weekend mod to be a waste of money.

One more job (or three, if you look at shifts,) which are three fewer unemployed folks, which helps the economy! They may need a supervisor, as well, though that could be on-call - four jobs.

COH Forum Weekend Moderators - to help the economic recovery! >.>

Heh... yea, I almost took that angle as well, MB. Decided to go the conservative route instead.

Earth shattering no. But what makes a thread worthy of moderation attention on weekdays but not moderator worthy on weekends. It seems there would be a higher chance of forum activity on the days people would not be at school or working (I know people visit form their office but don't they also visit from home?) so why do these days get no moderation at all.

If threads get moderated for the health of the community why is community health only note worthy 5/7 of the time?

Because the health of the community, as you put it, isn't worth the financial expenditure of weekend moderation. If it was worth it, it would have already been implemented.

This has been going on for a while. While the thread tags were around, threads that met this criteria would often get the "need weekend moderation?" tag, at least as often as I would see them.

Ironicly, I'm pretty sure that this very thread actually meets the criteria for something that would get locked/deleted if posted on a weekday. Reason: "discussion of moderator actions". (I'll check to make sure and edit this post if needed)

Edit: Okay, here's what I found:

Likewise, discussions regarding moderator actions are not permitted on the forum.

I believe that this thread will not be deleted within the next eight hours, even though I believe that it would not stand for a single hour on a weekday.

Actually, it wouldn't.

We're not discussing a moderator action ("Why did this thread get locked?" "So-and-so got banned, about time/so unfair!") and the like, but the state of the forums over the weekend due to a lack of available moderation.

So then, we're discussing moderator inaction (due to being absent during certain times)?

If this thread is deleted or locked before 1600 Pacific Time, Sunday, (today) I will Gmail 100million Inf to the OP, delivered Monday Morning at around 0400 Pacific.
(OP: I'll need your Global, PM me on the boards)
Right now, I have 0800 on my watch.

I'm sorry if I'm coming off as argumentative at you, M_B, since I respect you as a poster and you are so ften right about things.

Maybe I should have just stuck with "/signed".

Heh, not a problem. I'm going from experience, as I've seen certain threads in the past (after posters get suspended or banned - specifically talking about them and why they should/shouldn't have been) get locked down.

This is more suggesting NCSoft staffing changes, to me.

Weekends have been nutty time since I've been here. The forums are still here, the forums still work. Let people who work hard all week have their weekend. I'd rather have a trained moderator who knows our forum and community have a little extra work Monday morning, than deal with an undertrained person taken from the GM pool messing things up all weekend.

In the end, even if there were a weekend mod, all their actions would have to be reviewed by someone on Monday. There's really no savings to be gained from their perspective, and for those of us who are regular denizens, we can get used to a little wild and woolly weekends.

I know that Paragon needs another full time mod, poor Ocho was so overworked. Avatea is essentially the only other full time one they have so far as I know. It's far too big of a job for just one person, or even two or three. These forums are huge, and old, and have a LOT of activity. It's true that they're much tamer than other game forums or forums in general out there in the big wide world web.... but still, it's a job.

I'd love to do it if I didn't have to move to San Jose. :/

Reclaiming the weekend from trolls and idiots is worth the minor expense.

It seems to me that if they don't want to pay for a new mod, and they don't want to pay overtime, then they should move the mods' "weekend" to somewhere that isn't Saturday - Sunday. At least then, the mods would be around for when the majority of people are home and have a little bit of time to kill. It wouldn't be a solution, but it might mitigate the problems a bit.

I dig compromise.

Hear that, Mod 12? Your new schedule is Tue-Sat. Ocho, you got Sun-Thu.

Enjoy!

No, really, you should let them determine who gets which one. Though a shift bid is kind of silly with two mods.

Maybe they can settle it with a mod-wrestling match.

Wasn't there a post in here saying I would be sent INF if this wasn't deleted?
