Is it worth using TO's?

I do for things like travel powers, damage, accuracy as Beginner's Luck starts to fade. Hold/Sleep/Immo when I run Defenders/Controllers to extend the duration. Range if an attack has a very short range.

Nowadays you can blow through Level 1-11 in a relatively short amount of time, even soloing and be ready for DOs and low level common IOs in a day or two of play.

I think on my current lvl 2 I'll use drops.

Create another toon with the same powerset and slot.

See what the difference is (if I can notice it at all) and if I feel it's worth waiting.

Thanks for all the insightful replies

In Praetoria, I've actually bothered to buy TO's. Cause there-

The enemies are harder (Some even have defenses argh)
I spend time soloing (so I can putz around reading story and wasting time)
There was a third reason, I swear.

I got three each of Acc and Recharge TO's on my new stalker and WOW when I put those suckers in, everything was noticeably easier!

Since I have the inf to email to my new characters, I'll buy the accuracy TOs, but that's it, and even then I sometimes forget to maintain them. You can get to level 12 and slot DOs so quickly that anything else really is a waste of time for me. Even maintaining the DOs until level 22 (when I slot IOs) can be a waste of time depending on how my teaming is going.

ditto.

I slotted a bunch on my last new alt just to see if I'd notice any difference....and I didn't.

I slot drops until I can slot generics at level 15.

But the way inf rains down now it's not a big deal- go for it if you want.

Since I very, very, very rarely ever team, I do use TO's and DO's, but not until I reach L7 and start slotting L10 TO's. I sell all drops up to that point because leveling is so quick that you waste more time shopping than playing.

Once I start using TO's, I usually slot two Accuracy with Recharge and/or Endurance Reduction after those first two slots for attacks while other powers are slotted for Recharge or Endurance Reduction or whatever is appropriate for the power. I won't waste slots on Damage with TO's because the bonus damage is not worthwhile. Once I start using TO's, I will use drops to increase their effective levels.

Once I hit L12, I'll start using DO's. Usually with similar slotting as with TO's, but I will use Damage Enhancements and will have allocated slots as appropriate to attacks, usually having two or three attacks with five slots each.

At L18, I'll start slotting Common IO's, crafted by my higher level characters and stored in the base or mailed for characters in Praetoria.

Is the buff small? Hell yea, but it's better than nothing. Why a min-maxer will state that TOs are worthless when they'll drop 2 billion inf on +3% defense is beyond me.

Focused Sense with 3 TOs goes from 13.875 to 15.96 or so. So yea... I'll use TOs.

Edit: I suspect that those who team rather than running from 1 to 50 solo are more lax in their slotting.
This - word for word. Lately, with the price you can get for the large inspirations you get in the tutorial, I can finance myself through DO's on that alone.

I definitely notice the difference between an unslotted character and one that isn't, at least in a solo situation.

Yup, City Scoop way back when suggested selling the enhancements on the market for some free and easy cash, so that's what I do now on all my characters. Heh. Before that, I had no clue that people were paying for the big inspirations, but it does make sense.

After that, I slot what drops for me and grab TOs when I run near a store on my lowbies. I'll take whatever boost I can, though you usually have to slot a fair amount of TOs to notice the difference. I'll usually go for all accuracies in my attacks and all end reducs in my toggles/other powers that use a lot of endurance. Then the boost is noticeable.

At 12 I run the University tutorial and go with IOs for pretty much the rest of my career, though usually I'll slot DOs in my fitness powers, just to cut down on how much I need to craft and because you pick up most of those powers so close to 22 and higher level IOs (usually toss everything to my main crafter, other than what recipes I have had drop).
