Making a bots/bubble
My friend Kybernetis Einheit has a 50 Bots/FF/Mace. It's damn near unstoppable, even without using BG Mode Tanking. You just sit back and order the offensive, and nothing ever hits you.
My guides:Dark Melee/Dark Armor/Soul Mastery, Illusion Control/Kinetics/Primal Forces Mastery, Electric Armor
"Dark Armor is a complete waste as a tanking set."
Don't have a build yet. I'll put one up. If anyone else has one first, feel free to start off the thread. I know the primary has a bubbler bot, so I figured it would be easy to get alot of defense out of the build

Don't forget the new Chill Mastery for MMs. The Ice Shield has some great defense to add to the mix and also takes the steadfast unique res/def IO.
I was able to get great defense on the cheap since bots/ff doesn't really need recharge. I soft capped s/l and ranged defense plus high aoe defense without slotting protector bots with defense enhancers. I took aid other/aid self and focused on adding +hp and +regen bonuses with IO sets.
Play around with combat jumping, leadership pool, and some creative IO bonuses and you'll be surprised how easy it is to build a solid bot/ff mastermind.

Actually, I didn't grab Stamina or any of Fitness on my Bots/FF.
I also only use standard IOs in my build and all I have to say is... It is amazing!
You might want to slot the Protector Bots with 1 Acc 2 Damage 2 Defense and 1 End Mod (As they can run out of endurance in fights. I had read about doing that, but opted not to... and then changed my mind after seeing them run out in person).
When I was starting up my character, I found the Bots/FF guides in the Mastermind Guides to be have some very helpful advice for power selection and usage, as well as for general slotting.
However, if you're just looking for an IO build and whatnot, I can't help you there.
If you stick with it... you're in for a real treat!
As I was moving through the levels, I just couldn't imagine it could get better (As people had told me it would)... but level 38 proved me so wrong, haha.
and round up everyone that knows more than they do"-Dylan
If it helps this was my old build, fairly cheap IO sets, capped to Ranged and AoE, and uses Hover to keep out of melee. Uses Challenge and Provoke to keep the aggro off the wee 'uns, and the -fly in Air Superiority to keep people out of melee.

British by act of union, English by grace of God, Northern by pure good fortune!
PrincessDarkstar's build is uncannily similar to what I am doing. I heartily endorse this build.
The thing about forcefields users is they don't need the bonuses from the ever-popular Luck of the Gambler so much as the ever-useful Red Fortune. As far as the epics go: Mu is popular, Black Scorpion has a shield that is defense based. The new side-switching, praetorian build hero-side has the chill mastery which isn't bad either. What I find amazing about Chill Mastery's AoE sleep is how drowsy those poor guys in Malta really are.

The following is a 2nd build I'm testing for low level teaming ... i.e., getting badges on Hero side, like Posi Task Force and what not.
1. Pulse Rifle, Force Bolt
2. Battle Drones
4. Deflection Shield
6. Equip Robot
8. Pulse Rifle Burst
10. Insulation Shield
12. Protector Bots
14. Aid Other
16. Maneuvers
18. Tactics
20. Dispersion Bubble.
The basic idea is that I skip travel powers and take personal attacks instead. With out the assault bot, this makes rather more difference than you'd think. If I'm effectively level 32 or more (ie., Malefactor at level 27 or more), I can just use my primary build which is a lot more conventional.
You may or may not want to do something like this for leveling. You have two builds after level 10 so you can easily experiment with two builds simultaneously.
The rest of the build is even more divergent. I'll let you all know how well it works for solo play on a MM.
22. Aid Self
24. Personal Force Field
26. Assault Bot
28. Presence: Challenge
30. Detention Field
32. Upgrade Robot
35. Repulsion Field
38. Force Bubble
41. Web Envelope
44. Scorpion Shield
47. Power Boost
And the remainder of the power picks I'm saving for fine tuning / inherent Stamina when it hits. I have two repecs and several vet respecs on this character btw, so if this build sucks I can easily rip it apart and redo it. Caveat emptor on the stuff above level 26 or so.
I haven't thought about my bots/bubbles MM for a while but I did get a little crazy and made sure to get Assault, Maneuvers and Tactics for him.
Until I added my patron attack powers I didn't have any for him besides brawl and vet attacks.

Thanks for all the posts guys. Really helpful, and quick. Encouraging too. My first MM, and I really liked the concept and look. Plus, always wanted a bubbler, but haven't got around to levelling one in a year and a half
Just thought I'd share my Pro Bot slotting which I really like:
1 Acc/Dam HO
1 Heal/End HO
2 lev 50 Def IOs
2 pet uniques Def and res pet auras
Full sets of Blood Mandate in Battle Drones and Assault Bot.

ok did i miss something i leveled my Bots/FF MM to 50 and i thought for the entire run that i had made a mistake because it seems to me i remember having problems with activating my FF's and losing/not being able to control my bots anymore this was about a year ago i still have him i will post the mids info here in a minute.
Edit: ok upon look at the toon again i see that i even went as far as to respec out of the FF powers but i do remember every time i activated any of the force field powers on myself i could no longer command my bots so did they change that or was i doing wrong?
If you put up the Personal Force Field power, the small bubble you put up around yourself to make yourself very very hard to hit, you lose control of the bots. That was your problem.
You can't run PFF all the time. It is best used as an emergency self preservation power or to protect yourself when traveling through tough zones.

So far, Kinrad's build has better defenses, and has more bubble powers, support for a team. But he's also missing Repair. Might be the better build, and I'd like to fit detention field in there.

This is interesting gameboy. I built a controller on the blue side for doing the Posi on specially selected 3 hero teams (Ice/FF) before they changed it to be more fun and less time-consuming. I wonder what your opinion is of taking photon grenades instead of a pulse rifle attack? It would stack later in the MM's career with the stuns in the protector bots level 32 upgrade powers.
|
Well, I tried it for a bit in my 30's and 40's. I found it darn hard to stack with the prot bots because you had to actually target the same target (or close) as them. I never found any increase in stun time that I could discern. This may be hooey and it's really a great idea (my slotting wasn't great back in those days) but that was my general impression. Otherwise, the radius for Photon Grenade is kinda small and the damage/endurance ratio doesn't seem great.
What I did in the long run was put a Stun duration IO in the Prot Bots and call it good.
The build I posted is highly experimental and I haven't even tried it once yet. I really do mean caveat emptor. My main build is a lot like Kirad's. What I did differently was I skipped repair and delayed Aid Self, and took Maneuvers and Tactics by level 18.
Ive been looking at my Bot/FF MM and was thinking i needed to respec him hes not maxed yet so he still has some lvling to do but figured start working to the best build i can now. After having looked over the 2 builds that were posted i messed with mids and tryed to come up with somthing a bit more to my taste i havent figured out slotting yet mostly becasue i wana get the powers and the number of slots in each power right first. this is what i came up with.

Wondering about slotting on my 43-ish Bots/FF/Mace.
(Sorry, but no Mids on my Comp...seems to refuse to download it. Powers/slotting are from memory)
Battle Drones: 6x Soveriegn Right
1st Upgrade: 2 EndRed
Protector Bots: 5x Blood Mandate, 1 Common Defence.
Assault Bot: 6 Blood Mandate
2nd Upgrade: 2 EndRed
Force Bolt: 4x Kinetic Crash, 1 Explosive Strike: Chance For Smashing (Yes, I like to spam Force Bolt, it's big funz and very useful.)
Deflection Shield: 6x Red Fortune
Insulation Shield: 6xRed Fortune
Detention Field: 1 Acc, 2 Recharge (Pets, as opposed to teammates, CAN be told to choose other targets)
Dispersion Bubble: 6x Red Fortune
Force Bubble: 2 EndRed
Assault: 1 EndRed
Tactics: 1 End/ToHit
Manuevers: 4x Red Fortune
Swift/Health/Stamina: 1 Common Each
Scorpion Shield: 4x Red Fortune.
(Considering taking the Web Envelope power and putting Enfeebled Operations or Trap of the Hunter in it)
Aid Other: 5x Harmonized Healing, 1 InteruptReduction Common.
Hover, Fly: 1 Slot Each, intent to take Group Fly, just for looks.
Non-pet attacks are usually: Force bolt, Nem Staff and a random temp power, Detention Field occasionally.
Whatcha think about the build? In particular, I'm not too sure if that's what I want to do with the Protector Bots slotting. Putting another Blood Mandate would give me a Def Bonus, but reduce thier granted Defence (from thier bubbling ability) to myself and all my Bots, so I don't really want to do that.
Also: the Patron Attacks: Mace Beam Volley worth taking, damage-wise?
Don't have a build yet. I'll put one up. If anyone else has one first, feel free to start off the thread. I know the primary has a bubbler bot, so I figured it would be easy to get alot of defense out of the build
