Necro/Dark help please
I can just release one, and extract. Call it a sacrifice to the Dark Gods for a blessing of power.
That was my point. You can't do that. You used to be able to, but you can't any more.

Howlight Twilight, no matter how I slotted it, it killed my endurance. I had to pop a blue everytime. I had to weigh using it as a mez and saving it to revive a teammate. Soloing, I could use it at will. On a team I have to save it, giving me one less power in that situation. I'll probably take it eventually, if only as a rez power. I'm not sure if I can spare the slots from anything. If it cost less endurance, this would be a no brainer for me. I don't like cost or the recharge. I really believe its a passible power. Never missed not having after respecing. |

It's never easy is it? I fight for build tooth and nail, I cave in just little bit to masses and I still don't get what I want. LOL.
Awww....screw it. I half heartily apologize, I appreciate all the input...
But now its staying the way it is!....LOL.

It does make sense, otherwise they might as well just make it a summon (would be nice)... I almost wonder if that's why zombies are so squishy.
.....LOL

However, it's a good summon. It's got a medium-damage single target hold (Necroplasmic Grasp), Life Drain, Ghastly Blast (a version of Dark Blast), and Phase Shift. The strength of these powers is determined by the pet you used to summon the Ghost, i.e. a Wraith summoned by using a Lich is stronger (and has more hit points) than a Spirit summoned by using a Zombie. It also has resistance to Smashing, Lethal, Cold, Negative Energy, and Toxic damage.

Provoke and Hasten on Necro/Dark? Wat?
Firstly, BG mode is a good safety net. Between the buggy AI and all manner of other things that go wrong, ontop of the lackluster performance of zombies as much more than an HP shield...Necro is NOT the set to be tankerminding in.
Hasten? For what?
3 Recharges in Soul Extraction gives you a perma-pet at the expense of trashing a pet.
2 Recharges gives a near permanent Dark Servant (minus a few seconds).
Necro/Dark has the slots to spare.
Fearsome Stare is a staple of /Dark. It can lock down entire groups of enemies, and a full set of Nightmare (easy, cheap I/O set for fear) grants good range, recharge, and duration that will allow a precious few seconds of OVERLAP.
Basilisk's Gaze is...A personal taste thing. Some never use it, others swear by it's ability to lock down a troublesome mob or an anchor for Darkest Night (which stacks with Fearsome Stare to flatline to-hit).
Howling Twilight is another staple of /Dark. The question isn't whether to take it, but WHEN to take it. Some take it early around the mid-20's, I personally opted for the 30's. A single recharge cuts the time to 2 minutes. That's the duration of 2 tar patches. Yes, it's worth it. Yes, 2 minutes makes it a viable offensive tool for the pure amount of awesome it sends at enemies. Yes, it makes the perfect panic button when you have alot of mobs that you need locked down immediately.
Life Drain is never worth it on /Dark. Even in PvP.
Tactics isn't a waste. Having tactics means you only need to slot one accuracy on each of your pets for good measure. However, unless yo really want the IO bonuses or plan on taking on +2 or higher (or like fighting CoT alot), you don't need heavy slots in it.
My two cents.
Don't focus much on Recharge on Soul Extraction. You need a dead pet for it. You used to be able to dismiss a pet and it would count (people usually dismissed the lich, then used Soul Extraction on it), but it hasn't since I started my Necro / Dark years ago. Unless you've got a pet dying every 5 minutes, you probably don't need it up that often. (And, IMHO, if you've got a pet dying every 5 minutes routinely, you need to reconsider basic field tactics.)

It's trivial to resummon one and even with the new AOE upgrades Necro/Dark is pretty easy on the blue bar. The thing about Zombies is they don't actually need the 2nd upgrade that much (it's only Siphon Life, which does meh damage and is single target) so if End is an issue you can just do the first upgrade on him when you bring him back. Whereas the Spirit comes with Life Drain, a Phase, a ridiculously long ranged attack and a fairly heavy hitting melee hold attack.
If it's a Knight who dies then you only need to do the second summon and you'll get all their attacks, because upgrading a knight actually changes their model unlike most other Henchie upgrades. So the level 32 upgrade will give you Disembowel and Gloom as well as the usual upgrades which are listed with it (Head Splitter and Siphon Life).
I've a "Goto Aggressive" maneuver for my Zombie whipping boy which I use whenever Soul is ready to go, specifically for Ghost summoning and it works like a charm. With Hasten up I've had a pair of them out occasionally.
Great on teams too when you're missing a Brute or the Brute is a little timid and scared of the alpha.
I Frankenslot both Soul Extraction and Dark Servant, focus on using -ToHit/Recharge and Recharge IOs from the -ToHit sets topped up with Accuracy and either some damage (for the spook) or more -ToHit or Heal (for DS).
Wow, some really interesting advice. I always thought Howling Twilight was only for teammates, and not for pets.

HelinCarnate:OMG it is so terrible. I have the option to take 3 more powers but no additional slots. Boo F'ing hoo.
Perhaps the most famous use of Howling Twilight was at a Hamidon raid where the "enemy" target was an Oil Slick.
Its already been hinted at here, but I'll just come right out and say it. With my endurance full, I will often put all of my pets but my lich on passive, then tell my lich to "go to" a spot right in the middle of a group of mobs, and let him wail on stuff until he dies. I then resummon the lich, send the entire horde in to attack the spawn, and use Soul Extraction on the dead lich for a top-tier ghost to join the party. Then, with a party of 8 pets (including fluffy) at my side, I dominate the rest of the map without so much as a scratch. The lich recharges plenty fast enough to do this tactic every time Soul Extraction is up from cooldown.
Just so you guys know. Thanks to the 'Pets die when dismissed' bug, we can once again use Soul Extraction at any time. Just dismiss your Lich and then resummon him. The corpse will then allow you to summon your ghost.
It's the only positive aspect of the bug that has killed my Bots/Storm and Thugs/Traps.

I think what I'd do is use your secondary build and experiment with it, probably with SOs before committing to anything.
I've found that even with the extra +Defense and +Damage Resistance from the Unique SOs, my pets are still... well, far too flammable. No other kind of damage much matters (and Smashing / Negative Energy / Energy / Psionics make me snicker).
