Can I invite my other heroes to my SG?
Both characters must be online at the same time to invite. Set your lowest rank to only have invite privs and invite someone to your sg then have them invite your alts. Lots of people will gladly help you do this.

Like Chaos Creator said, go ahead and change your SG permissions, but I'm definitely trustworthy. I won't even set foot in your base in case you don't have time to clean up your dirty laundry. Post or PM me your global, and we can coordinate a time/day.
While it is wonderful that people are so often willing to assist each other with this, I can not for the life of me understand why the devs can't or haven't implemented offline group invites for characters on our own accounts.
Be well, people of CoH.

How about an option when a character is without a SG to join any SG that our other characters have invite permissions to?
On a similar note, I'd also love to be able to set my personal SG to not have leadership roles expire (or at least longer possible duration), and to be able to promote/demote offline characters so that I don't have to log in so many toons to make organizational changes.

Probably because they're scared to touch code that hasn't been modified since the game was launched

But ya, I think you might be right.

Pediatric brain tumors are the #1 cause of cancer related deaths in children.
I'd love if they let us include SG invites via the mail system... that way I could just send one to myself and my alt could claim it...

I believe this is forth coming and soon we will be able to switch toons/Alts without having to log out as well . Maybe issue 19 or not to long after that I would imagine .

I too would love to see the ability to invite alts to an SG. I was thinking about it, and a good way of doing this may be to allow an SG be set to "Open Enrollment". When an SG is set to "Open Enrollment", anyone may join by going to the SG Registrar and viewing a list of SGs currently set as Open, selecting one, viewing the info, and clicking a "Join" button. Or simply a /sg_join command similar to the /chan_join command. This would not only allow you to get your alts into the SG, but also serve as a passive recruiting method.
For those worried about people joining their SG to abuse it, there are two valid options:
1 - Don't have your lowest rank have privileges that would allow abuse.
2 - Simply don't set your SG to Open Enrollment

The Backwards Bishop is likely the person to annoy about this (who must be locked in a dungeon as I haven't seen him post in quite some time.)
The whole faction thing is probably the sticking point, before the market merge and ability to email cross-faction, it would probably have been simpler (although still not easy.) One could email an invite that would have shown up as a 'claim' to the recipient. Problem is, these types of emails go to globals, how does one know what server/faction the gleemail was sent from/to. So it's another function that has to be built into the email system.
I'd love be able to SG invite/promote/demote off-line characters as well.
I'm guessing is that the problem is not that the devs do not want you inviting your other characters into your SG, it is they do not want to implement a whole new method to invite people who are offline. Right now you can invite anyone who is online, but you CAN'T be online with two characters at the same time.
You can get around this with a second account, but getting someone else to help is a quicker and easier solution. The only problem is needing to do this every time you create a new character.
I must admit I like Garielle's suggestion. Although it still does not resolve the problem of two characters needing to be online at the same time in order for one to Promote the other. So it's not really solving the problem as much as putting it off to another problem. (Although I'm guessing it would be easier to Promote an SG member who is not online than it would be to invite him in the first place)

Thanks for the replies, unfortunately I got playing the game yesterday and didn't get back to the thread. I appreciate the offer of help. I'll set my permissions as suggested and try it that way.
The day they implement offline SG invites is the day I cancel my second account. That's probably why they don't.

Seems it's impossible as I get the "<character> is offline" message.
I started one to build a base for salvage racks and stuff, but now I cant invite my other guys.
Is there any way? I won't trust giving permissions to someone else, they'd have access to my base.
