Enter The (Hanna-Barbera) Matrix

No, Fred Flintstone isn't The One, but there is this nifty matrix graphic to show the timeline of their creation:

that is a lot of my childhood there. Still, tons of those I had never heard of.

Wow so much subtle racism, WTF and homoerotic shows.

The mediocrity! The mediocrity! *

* Excluding the Alex Toth designs, of course. In any case, the matrix of Disney characters from the same graphics designer is far more impressive.

I like it that, apparently, if you had a schlocky show from the 70s or early 80s, H-B were going to animate you!

Wow. good portion of my childhood there.

"And for us this is the end of all stories, and we can mostly say they lived happily ever after. But for them it was the beginning of the real story. All there life in this world and all there adventures in Narnia had only be the cover and the title page: now at last they were beginning Chapter One of The Great Story which no one on earth has ever read: which goes on forever: in which every chapter is better than the one before" - C.S Lewis, The Last Battle.

Holy cow, they made Super Ted?

Anyway, I notice that they didn't really do anything good until '96.

Yeah, I said it.

Dipping into the Musketeer well three times.

Poorly animate any somewhat popular real life person or series. And if you can't get the rights, change the names.

Take the worse of sitcoms and dumb it down.

Laughtrack anything. Anything. Anything that moves or doesn't move gets a laugh.

Muttering is funny!

The horror of the studio is made apparent with a management and talent shift that took place with Two Stupid Dogs and what followed, but even then, walking the line between gross out humor and simply gross sometimes fails.

I still don't understand how they ever got Cow and Chicken passed the censors! It was all about butt jokes with characters that wore no pants, even the non-anthropomorphic ones. Most of whom took every opportunity to moon the viewer with their fat, glistening male booties.

That said, all the old ones from the 50s and 60s are burned into my brain. I start to not recognize a few starting from the 70s. And I guess around the 80s, I started to get more picky and blew off a bunch of them. I remember when the Cartoon Channel/Network showed the pilots of some of their potential new programming and Dexter's Lab and the Powerpuff Girls immediately captured my attention.

I was just going to say exactly that. And I'd bet almost nobody here has even heard of it let alone seen an episode.

You have if you were a watcher of Harvey Birdman like me.

Lol I went out of my way to watch The Real Adventures of JQ when I was a kid. It got me into watching the old JQ show later on.

Ha! It's why I love the Venture Bros today! Otherwise, the base premise would fly over my head.

Thank you Hanna-Barbera!

Wow...a lot of the 80's-90's seemed to be "take a previously sucessful franchise and turn them into Babies". Not a HB cartoon but I think the only time that worked was Muppet babies.

Also...don't think I've heard of at least half of the 70's & 80's ones (50s & 60s are pretty much classic pop culture now).

Also love that just about any fad in the 80's got it's own show (can somewhat recall the Rubik show...they gave it a face....creepy)

well while they didn't get turned quite that young, are you somehow saying that Flintstone kids and A Pup Named Scooby Doo weren't awesome? your real name wouldn't happen to be Red Herring? ;p

How'd they get it past the censors? Simple. Even censors love cows with Crabs...the Warthog.

Goodbye, I guess.

They may have been...I can only really recall an episode or two of each really. Didn't think they were on for all that long .

If I had to make a list of those shows that I saw versus the ones I did not. The list for those

I didn't would be awfully short.

I loved some Samson and Goliath. Huge beast of a Lion with Swirly-Vision Lazer Eyes.

I mean COME ON???!?!?!?!?!?!? How do you top that?????

P.S. Yes Yes. Samson looked totally.......er wrong, but Swirly-Eyes!!!!! Lazer Vision!!!

P.P.S Yes Yes I switched Vision and Eyes around.

Yes, was a fan of Samson and Goliath as well. Shazam and his dog.

A number of these were little 5 minute cartoons that were part of a larger animation block, that may be a reason for their obscurity.

At first I read that as "Enter The (Hanna-Montana) Matrix" and I thought this forum had gone insane. Glad I just wasn't paying enough attention.

If that doesn't sound like an Internet Meme. I don't know what does.
