Uhhh, if you're playing on Victory and Protector, then you can't enter at all. It's only for the European CoH players.

Main Villain: Evil Gulzow-Man (Victory) 50, 1193 Badges

Shame I live in Canada, though in all fairness, "The Box with a Red Light" concept probably wouldn't cut the mustard.

According to the website it says as many entries as we like per person! Is this right?!

Hello,

From what can be seen here : http://www.onrpg.com/boards/166555-6/ it seems as the NPC designing contest winners have been determined, even at the NCSoft level, therefore, I have a few questions :

- When are we going to see some official results on the COH website ?

- According to the rules posted on the announcement on these forums "our European partners will each provide their top entry to NCsoft for the Grand Prize", how is it possible for onrpg to claim having won 1st AND 2nd place, if they were only supposed to send a single participation for the "Grand Prize" ?

- I also would like to point out that that the lack of guidelines and rules about how to participate in the contest might have given a slight disadvantage to the people participating from some partner websites.

* Gamekult had their participants submit a single screenshot by website account via a web form, displayed immediately (no indications against montages, bios, etc...)
* Onlinewelten seems to have asked their participants to send a screenshot by e-mail (my german might be a bit rusty)
* Onrpg allowed posting on their forums of several screenshots, even several characters, with bios and showing multiple costumes.

While I kinda agree that individually, it's up to each partner to determine how to choose their top winner, I can't help thinking that in the end, even if they each submit a single screenshot to NCSoft for the "Grand Prize", the judging between a screenshot simply showing a character in the character creation screen, and a screenshot showing a montage of different costumes with a bio of the toon, might be a little biased... There'd be basically a single submission from one person against what could be considered several submissions from the other.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not complaining that we had a contest for EU residents, on the contrary, it's great that things could be organised so we could participate (as well as in the loading screen contest), but the hectic organisation around it makes me wonder if something hasn't gone wrong with this contest...

Firstly may I congratulate Levictus on the winning entry but I am afraid I have some concerns about the selection process of the winning entry.

My concern I have about the running of the competition is that the final selection picked does not seem to have followed the interpretation of what was requested, i.e.;

"... designing and naming an In-game NPC ..."

No offence to Levictus's awesome looking character Prime-8 but it is not an original designed and named NPC for In-game but rather a posting of one of his/her existing characters. A character which has been talked about a lot in the 'Post your best costume designs here!' thread and pictured here and here.

My understanding of the competition was that we should have designed and named a completely new NPC that was NOT one of our existing toons, which is something the runner up Black Mage seems to have attempted with their entry 'Psilence'. I feel this has made it unfair for all those of us who actually took the time out to sit down and design an outfit along with a character name that could be used in this competition.

Please don't make the mistake of flaming me as a poor looser as this is not the case. I just feel that the rules of the competition have not been followed by those judging the entries - in fact I feel that the judges themselves had no understanding of what was required. But, as always, I guess the judge’s decision is final on this one.

I also need to bring up the following as stated on the first page of the competition;
"Each partner will also have 5 digital copies of City of Heroes Going Rogue Complete Collection and Comic Con Ghoul costume codes to give away so make sure you head over to the participating websites next week for several chances to win amazing prizes!"
To my knowledge the UK partner site has made no mention as to which entries have won one of these codes, if anybody. Something else that seems to have been overlooked.

Now as Seregmegilmor has stated above I too am not knocking the attempt to run a competition EU side, God(s) knows we need more of them over here, but next time can it be run in a less 'half-arsed' manner with full clarification of what is required under the rules.

My apologies Levictus if you feel this post is being directed at you for winning - I assure you this is not the intended nature of my post. I like your character Prime-8. No, this post is directed at those running/judging the competition and how I feel they have not understood their own requirements.

Regards,
FrIce.

This terribly confused me as well! I got an e-mail saying congratulations on winning second place, but I'm unsure of what happens now

I entered this as a bit of fun, with a fun char - I never thought for a moment that I may actually win. My apologies if anyone disagrees with my entry.

My 4th costume entry was that of a NEW char, a Praetorian version of Prime-8, called Praetor Prime - wearing all new Clockwork/PPD/etc., costume parts, so new char = new NPC. I put Prime-8 in (and Prime-Evil, his original nemesis) as no-one would have got the Praetor Prime name if they were not familiar with him. @Black Mage names Psilence amongst his/her active char names in his/her sig, so I assume he/she may have had a similar idea. ((Congrats to @Black Mage btw)).

To update you all on goings-on:

I have checked OnRPG.com each evening since the comp closed. I work a 6 day week, 7am til 6pm currently. I checked the forum around 8pm (28th Sept), noticed the result was in, so checked e-mail to confirm - a congratulatory message was sent at 1:56pm, I read it at 8pm and replied asking 'what to do next' and who to send the requested cossie file and pics to at NCSoft.

I returned home from work this evening, to be greeted by an e-mail (read at 7pm) saying 'thanks for a quick response' and another e-mail address and message from the comp organisers requesting the files - sent at 9.20am. I then had another e-mail awaiting me marked 'urgent' (sent 11:00am) - NCSoft wanted the files 'within the hour' to 'make this work' and for announcements, etc. I have since replied and sent the files and pics over at around 7.30pm.

(Some times stated may be a little off as I am in the UK and the organisers are based in the Netherlands)

I am now waiting patiently, with a hint of stress, to see what I must do next.

Apologies to all, this has all happened very quickly, I have NEVER won ANYTHING before and I have since done all that I can (unless someone at NCSoft reads this and wants to get in touch!)

Thanks all,

Lev.

The organiser of the European English contest is indeed OnRPG.com and they have set their own rules and are managing all of it. I have queried the process and there have been no irregularities or issues so far as I'm aware. Congratulations to the winners, we'll be announcing it on the European sites as soon as possible!

So is this Paragon Studios way of deflecting blame for screwed up contest? If so, it's pretty weak. As the sponsor of this contest Paragon Studios has a responsibility to make sure it is run fairly under the guidelines they set up. It is the responsibility of the "partners" in this contest to make sure it is legally run in their areas.

Alright, let's say OnRPG organized the European English Contest.

What about France ? Or Germany ?
That's what we're talking about in this post. There was no rules and no way for us to know what to do.
Did we have to submit several screenies ? Did we have to submit our character's background too ?
We had no idea.

I won't say Prim8 is not a cool toon. It would be so wrong it would be unfair to say so.
But the contest is pretty much a screwed up thing, and we're still waiting to know what happened to the french or german players who submit their own creations.

Your answer was a bit lame, Avatea (even if "lame" is a strong word, for that i'm sorry. My english ain't really good), and i'm a bit disapointed.

PS : This question is not related to the rest of the message. Are your from Tahiti, Avatea?

Does that mean there are actually 3 second places and not just one?

That's what it litterally means.

But I'm still wondering where the two other runners up are...

Maybe they ran away instead of running up...

I'm not happy with Avatea's response either and agree with GMan3's comment;

The competition rules and requirements were laid down by Paragon Studios then past onto the three Partner Sites to run it in their various areas. At what point was it mentioned that the Partner Sites would ignore the initial competition criteria and then decide to make up their own? You can't have one set of requirements mentioned on this site only for it to be changed on each Partner Site - this makes a mockery of the whole competition.

Not only are we still waiting to hear about the other two runners up, as pointed out via Hephaia's quote of the contest prizes above, but we are also waiting to hear if the following prizes was also awarded;
"Each partner will also have 5 digital copies of City of Heroes Going Rogue Complete Collection and Comic Con Ghoul costume codes to give away so make sure you head over to the participating websites next week for several chances to win amazing prizes!"
Which makes 15 GR codes and 15 Ghoul codes in total - I would have thought someone by now would have posted a thank you for the codes. I have a feeling this prize has been ignored.

I just find it really annoying that after all this time of the community pushing for an EU specific competition when one finally arrives it has not been handled very well at all.

A bit disappointed here too, I would have liked an answer about the "one entry by partner yet 2 winners announced by onrpg" just to make things clear. Maybe it's just changes in the submission process to NCSoft, not advertised here, that allowed the partner who submitted the big winner to submit their second choice so that every partner site has a runner up ?
If that's it and it means more people winning stuff, I'm only going to complain (a little) about not having been kept informed about it here.

Anyways, I dunno for onlinewelten, my feeble grasp of the german language isn't enough to conduct a meaningful search on their forums for information, but there hasn't been anything on the gamekult news about the results of the contest yet.
