What, no Emmy thread??
Oh, list of winners for those who haven't seen em yet

Was very happy with many of the winners last night: Modern Family's many wins, Sheldon, Top Chef and the success of Temple Grandin (a little movie, unconditional subject matter, but suprisingly entertaining and superbly acted). I thought Fallon did a good job, but the whole "Twitter" bit turned out to be a bit of a dud. My only complaints were Michael C. Hall snubbed for actor in a drama (although Cranston is very good) and Mad Men winning for drama. While I'm warming to it more than before, I still think Mad Men is overrated.... you too Daily Show (Best Variety Show). Last season of Dexter was so deserving of best drama; Lithgow alone was outstanding, but the rest of the cast and the writers were totally on their game. Sad.
And although Glee is not my cup of tea (at all) I do have to say I enjoyed the Born to Run opening number with Fallon, the cast and other celebs.

Mad Men is definitely the most overrated show in recent television history.
Don't knock the Daily Show, though. While it usually contains less laugh out loud moments than The Colbert Report, it's more consistently entertaining and informative.

Everyone on Lost got screwed. Even though The Daily Show probably deserved to win, I would have liked to see Conan win... if anything... just to see what he'd say, and how NBC would have reacted. I watched the Colbert Report a few nights ago... and it looked like their writers won an Emmy. I guess it wasn't aired?
And... Honestly... Madmen gets too much credit. Yes, it's a good show, but it's no Lost. Oddly enough, Madmen won all the awards except the one I wanted them to win.... but that's only because I wanted to see Christina Hendricks bounce up on stage. WALK! *cough* Walk on stage.

I am disappointed that Lost didn't win anything. Not because I am a fanboy (I am), but because now critics of the show and its final season are going to take this as proof that the final season "was the suxx0rs!" I didn't want another excuse for them to write articles on how much they disliked the resolution.
I am glad that Modern Family won. I love Glee, but it is a hot mess. Modern Family is like a honed piece of humor machinery.

Way to many alts.
No, the original show had very little political bend to it. And if there was, it was an equal opportunity offender. Yes, it's a critical darling and a ratings success with Stewart. I won't deny it. I even enjoyed his first few years (still not as much as Kilborn) but later it just got too preachy and started taking itself too seriously for my tastes. As I said, its probably just a generational thing.

I don't consider it preachy. One of the recent guests was discussing the nature of comedy with Jon and they talked about how good comedy has a seed of truth to it, so I suppose what I like about Stewart's Daily Show is combination of the truth that others don't touch on in a funnier way than others are capable.

For best comedy, it simply had to be either Community or Modern Family. It's absolutely refreshing to see a show recognized for its tightly written original/yet comfortable formula.

Will go read the rest of the awards later. First awards show in a long time that hasn't had me punching kittens afterwards.
Note to self: Track down Glee Emmy clip to find out what's up.
Oh, and points to anyone that recognized the outfit they wore.
Well, that was simply amazing. Thank you. Truly awesome opening. The cherry on top was Joel McHale being in their Glee Club. The levels of meta-humor there would cost a Cthonian Cultist sanity loss.

Also, I like how the prize money was 1,205 dollars. Just enough money for tickets and a sub from Subway!

Sons of Anarchy got no nominations. So, **** the Emmys.

Didn't see the show, but it would have been awesome if it ended with the kids going up to Jimmy and saying that they lost to Vocal Adrenaline; that he was stuck with the bill for their trip.

I think the best way to sum up the Kilborn years versus the Stewart years is that during the K years, The Daily Show was more or less spoofing the local news, with Kilborn acting as the aloof, egotistical local anchor. In the S years, the show is more or less spoofing the network news, with Stewart acting as the outraged news anchor (and turning the show into a more politically charged program).

I think to some extent your appreciation of the show depends on your politics, so I'm not a fan generally, but I do enjoy the Colbert Report, which I tend to find more wacky and less obnoxious (and I've never heard anyone say in all seriousness "I get all my news from the Colbert Report!").
Regarding the awards, I thought they were OK. A few good humor pieces. I do feel compelled to watch Modern Family when it hits syndication now. And I really need to pick up Dexter Season Four and get caught up (Lea and I wait until the new DVDs come out and watch a whole season in pretty much one sitting, or more accurately one session of lying in bed; we're like a serial killer-loving version of John and Yoko).
Troy Hickman - So proud to have contributed to and played in this wonderful CoH universe

Big thumbs up for Modern Family too. And I agree with Marcian that it and Community are the two best comedies on TV right now. Troy and Abeds segments at the end of the episode are funnier than most things on TV let alone the other 20 minutes of the show.

I'm shocked!!
Or is it just Marcian is in dimsay as Glee didn't sweep the awards
VERY happy with the comedy results. I love Glee to bits, but was impressed to see Modern Family do so well, as it's freaking hysterical.
And to keep it vaguely on-topic, Sheldon from Big Bang Theory winning Best Actor.....about time!
Glad that NPH won for Glee and Sue Sylvester always wins, we know that, so that's no surprise
