Spirit Tree

Because of its static nature, Spirit Tree is woefully limited in its utility and I don't know many people who take it... I was thinking - what if in addition to regen it also boosted recovery? That wouldn't violate the cottage rule, would fit thematically and make the power more practical to use in situations where characters would normally stand still long enough to use it. It would even make a nice little 'group rest' power for pre-Stamina teams. Thoughts?

The only time I use my spirit tree is when I'm taking a stand against ambushes, rikti/zombie invasions, and AV/GM fights. I don't see that changing with your proposal. However, I have to say that in long drawn-out fights like those a +Recovery added in would be a great thing and make me want to take time to drop it as soon as possible instead of "first chance I get." I'd be very happy if this was done.

While it's not a bad suggestion, I doubt if a change is likely. Most of the control sets have at least one somewhat questionable power (Smoke, Flash Freeze, Salt Crystals, Group Invis/Superior Invis collectively, and, at least on a Controller, Telekinesis).

I also kind of think that, in the scheme of things, a buff to Plant Control is not really likely given its performance relative to other control sets, and to other sets in general.

I give this post an EPIC FAIL!!!!!!!

...LOL...nah...just messin with ya...

A +Rec wouldn't be too bad on this power...but i still don't think it'd be quite enough for me to pick this one up. I had it for a short while on my plant/thorns dommy. Even slapped in some slots for rech and heal to see what kind of milage i could get out of it, and frankly...i was a bit disappointed. The +Regen was never quite enough to really make much of a difference when i needed it...which was a bit sad cuz i had high hopes for it.

My controls had a much higher impact to team survival than the static +regen patch that for the most part just kinda blocked my view of the battlefield. For me, it boiled down to if my controls can't either lock down this mob or at least a portion of it to make the situation more managable for my team, then that blasted tree ain't gonna help much.

Also...i tend to agree with Tex. Spirit Tree is one of the powers you could take out of Plant Control and not really affect the set much at all, if any at all. AoE mass confusion power at lvl 8, a placable patch that causes slow, KD, some damage, and a few other little tricks AND "follows you around" to a degree, AND can absorb an alpha (pull some aggro) in Carrion Creepers, a pet, that after tweaks and fixes, isn't half bad, and all the other tricks in it's bag...plant is DEFINITELY a top-tier set for doms and trollers. The damage isn't too bad either, for a control set.

Someone say something funny.

That'll do, pig. That'll do.

Eh. Just look at the Tree as something you alternate with Rest between nasty fights, as well as something you toss down in long fights with little running around. Like Triage Beacon, it's fine as-is.

or you could turn it in a moving pet ^^

i mean carrion creeper follows you, why not the tree?

I use Triage Beacon with my Trapper its a very similar power. I'd like to see it duration reduced and its recharge to match. In long fights it helps alot. In my build with high recharge I can even stack them.

The regen on its own is not that good. It makes a difference on a Tanker/Brute with higher base health and allows them to "regen". On a squishy, the regen rate normally doesn't make any difference if you are getting hit without any shields.

Spirit Tree and Beacon have its use during long fight and it will be great if they can add a bit +recovery. Just a little bit will help these two power greatly.

What's left is to normalize all Assassin Strikes and improve Stalker's old sets (Claw, MA and EM)! You don't need to bring back the missing PbAoE attack. You just need to make the existing ones better! For example, make Slice a WIDER and LONGER cone.

Spirit Tree is a fantastic power.

Doesn't need a buff.

I also question anyone who calls an AOE sleep a questionable power.

When you have a pet that spams cone attacks, it is fairly questionable yes. And IIRC it also generates aggro, so you can't even use it for stealthing. Now if they turned it into a pulsing sleep effect like Static Field that would be different, but I can't see them giving Plant/ a second really good AoE control power.

Actually, it would be really cool if Spirit Tree has a minor Power Boost buff added to its radius, something that capped at about 20% at level 50. This would make it really unique.

I think I would like the healing in Spirit Tree to be sticky. So, toons that go into the range of the tree get the healing ticks and it stays on them even after they leave the range of the tree. That would make it a little different from the Triage Beacon... and more utilitarian.

Never argue with stupid people. They drag you down to their level and beat you with experience.

Oh yeah. It would also be nice if they can distinguish Triage Beacon and Spirit Tree somehow. I am not talking about the looks. I mean different effects?

I think having Castle look at either Plants or Traps is asking for trouble.

Agreed.

Spirit Tree would be great if the regen bonus woke you from sleep.

That's all I want, then when I see I am about to do battle with sleepers - I drop a tree and start.

Well, they already looked at Traps and fixed it.

Spores and Salt Crystals are a huge boon for Plant and Earth.

Its another wide area control power, and can be used to absoutely shut down incomming damage when your other controls are currently occupied.

I run a Plant/psi/soul perma dom at 205% recharge and I use Spore burst ALL OF THE TIME solo or teamed.

It kills alphas, stopps ambushes and helps push the amount of management beyond what a build without it is capable of.

Additionally, I have also slotted some ranged into my spores and it also helps with the "return fire" that can sometimes occur when using some of plant's other controls.

People don't like sleeps becuase they require a bit of thought and a bit of team coordination to maximize, but they ARE effective control powers.

Mass Hypnosis works great, but any set with area knockdown or a pet is just asking for trouble. When Jack Frost says it's time to go, it's time to go. He doesn't care if you just cast Flash Freeze.
