Bodyguard mode?

I was just wondering how I go into bodyguard mode? I press Follow but my pet runs around attacking everything in site, I just want him to attack the things that attack me or him.

Thanks!

Right click on the follow button and edit the text. Change Aggressive to Defensive.

If they're on both follow and defensive, you'll be in BG mode.

Thank you

Yeah, it's annoying that the default controls don't set both Follow and Defensive. But then, they were created before Bodyguard existed.

It's worth noting that "Follow" isn't actually necessary, just that they be in defensive mode and within the range of supremacy. The Issue 7 patch notes were misleading on this note and caused the confusion.

Naturally, "Go" and "Stay" are not going to keep them in range like "Follow" does, but having them stay around a corner or head in first can be helpful... and they will still be in BG mode.

@Gilia1
I play heroes on Champion.
I play villains on Virtue.

The exception is "Attack". All other combinations with Defensive work.

You can also type this once and a "BG" icon will show up in your Power tray...

/macro BG "petcom_all Follow Defensive"

I grabbed this from one of the guides a while back. If I could remember where I would certainly give that person credit.

one thing i use is the advanced controls for my MM pets and i tell then to attack my target while keeping them in defensive mode. it works great

The path of Villainy is an arduous one, but one that must be tread because without it there would be no heroes, and what would the world be like without either. So for all those heroes out there I chose Villainy.

Yes, it's great, but that's still not bodyguard mode, so be careful. If you tell them to attack, even in defensive mode, you lose the bodyguard mode damage sharing. As soon as the fighting stops, they will return to "follow" and you'll be fine.

They really need to change aggressive to defensive in the default controls. I'm betting 90% of MM players aren't utilizing bodyguard mode because their pets are in aggro mode. I recently had to explain how this mode worked and how to use it to two players. One of them new, one of them not new at all lol.

I've been thinking about making a new MM. So, there's no way to say "attack that mob, but stay in BG mode"?

Technically, no, but there are ways around this. I use an attack macro that tells my Assbot and two protectors to attack while leaving the three drones in bodyguard mode. In this way, I still have a good amount of damage sharing, but keep the majority of my damage focused.

Is there some bug with the numpad keybind because I use all attack command via that and my pets stay in defense mode but attack.. I mean I use it all the time. I never have different pets doing different things. Its either all or nothing.

There is no bug, because this is what I do as well. When I tell my pets to attack, I do nothing for their stance. Yes, they can attack while in defensive stance, but you will not benefit from the damage sharing of bodyguard mode.

Note that if the foes start attacking your pets then bg mode has no effect. Unless you are a tankermind and have well slotted Provoke the best thing to do (imho) is to use bg mode for the alpha strike and then switch to attack defensive to finish off the mob (and keep your pets together). Once the mob is all down the pets will automatically switch back to bg mode.

Also bear in mind that the Henchmen must be under the effects of Supremacy for Bodyguard to work. This requires them to be in fairly close range, and line-of-sight is required.

Poor assumption on my part all these years.
Lesson learned.

I need to make sure I do more provoking then..

Another thing that just hit me Robot Trap MM are dam good then if your doing so much with hardly any bodyguard active..
