Stances Coming?

Was playing earlier and heard some people in a chat channel say that stances were coming to the game. Unfortunately, I only caught the end of their conversation, but was just wondering, if this is true, can anyone give any more detail? This is something I've always wanted for this game. Cant wait!

I THINK the ones that was on test were blocked out but heard people say it would be included for people who buy the complete edition of GR.

Just a rumour i heard though so dont hold me to it.

These 'stances', although greyed out in beta appear to be put into the same group as other emotes such as 'hands on hips' and 'arms folded'. It's unsure if these stances are really the kind of animation overrides people are hoping they'd be.

I'm hoping they're the animation overrides people are hoping them to be, but with two days left til launch and no chance to test them, who knows?

By the way, it's said that the complete edition pack is cheaper than a Super-booster, 5-6 dollar maybe?

Hmm, you have a point there. I too am hoping that instead of crossing my arms every what? 10 seconds or so, I rest them in my pockets or something similar to that. This is exactly why I've yet to pre-order GR, I honestly don't know what I'm really getting, other than side switching and four new powersets.

Waiting to hear people's thoughts on it.

If you've already pre-purchased, it's just 7 USD more for the Item Pack.

Going Rogue: Complete Edition (i.e., the 'box') includes these extras which pre-purchase didn't get.

Me? I pre-purchased and then I bought the Game Stop pre-order for the box, the extras, the free month, and the GROs, which are exclusive to the Game Stop pre-order. Such is the life of the completionist.

I think they should have called them Poses instead of Stances. Stances make people think of ninja run. I'm afraid these just emotes.

Depends. If I turn it on and it happens every time I stop and stand still for a few seconds, it's a Stance. If I have to turn it on every time to make it happen, it's an Emote.

At first I thought these were going to be new idle stances, but now I think they're just emotes. I guess I'll see in two days.

Yeah I'm kind of amazed they don't have these "turned on" in the beta right now whatever they are.
I'm hoping they're going to work...

One of the very few things that Champions Online managed to do well was their idle stances. Basically they're the kinds of things that you select and "happens every time [you] stop and stand still for a few seconds" automatically like you were talking about. These would be cool if that's what we're getting in this game.

On the other hand these might just turn out to be like the flyposes were. In that case they're simply going to be emotes that you manually have to start every time you stand still. If that's what we're getting then their usefulness is going to be drastically limited.

Here's hoping that (like Ninja Run itself) this new stance feature is going to be another obvious ripoff of that other game.

Well fair enough. Some of the CO stances were better looking than others.

I have to assume that if that's the kind of thing we're getting here that the graphic artistry of our Devs here will make our version of the stances look better regardless.

To be honest, I'd like to be able to turn that whole "hunched over" bit on Ninja Run off. It looks dumb and impractical to me.

I'm hoping for 'stance' instead of 'emote'. If not, I'll just make a macro for it on a toon I feel benefits from it.

To be clear I wasn't really directly saying I liked/disliked the appearance of Ninja Run. I was just stressing the idea that its appearance and functionality very closely resembles a travel power in CO called Acrobatics. The fact that we got both Ninja Run and Walk about a month after CO went live will always remain incredibly "suspicious" to me.

My main point is that I like the idea of stances in general and I strongly suspect what motivated our Devs to give us (something) called stances here was prompted by their appearance in CO. It doesn't really bother me in the least if this game "borrows" a few things from other games like that. I'm just hoping that whatever version of that we get here is at least as good or better.

Well... A while back BABs did say that these were not stances like some were hoping for and were just emote poses (Like idle1, idel2, crossarms, etc.).

This was in reply to questions when the Devs were hopping online and talking with everyone in Pocket D... I can't even remember when that was or what it was called or anything...
I remember TonyV transcripting the whole event and posting it for all of us.

Of course... Not to raise expectations back up, but... Jay did tell us all that the Resistance Costumes we were shown a glimpse of (With glowing bits) were not for players...

Still, I choose to believe BABs in this case and only expect some emote stances as we've already seen in the game.

I do hope to see idle/toggled stances in this game eventually though.

We shall see, eh?

Oh, yes, yes, understood. You just triggered a stray thought, is all.

And the key is to do it BETTER!

If they are a real stance, wouldn't there need to be some ui to set it? A no-end cost toggle would not be a polished way of doing it ^^

Well if these "stances" turn out to be idle equivalents of the flypose emotes that would be a bit of a letdown.

On the other hand I still use flyposes bound to keybinds to this day and it wouldn't be incredibly difficult to set up new keybinds if needed. It would just be a bit cumbersome is all...

I wouldn't think a GUI to set these things would be that big a deal.
They could always add another drop-down menu for them hanging off the costume selection pop-up. *shrugs*

Flyposes are an example of how to do it wrong, to this day the only time I have ever seen anyone using it is War Witch on the latest Vidoc.

Yeah I think most people would consider "doing stances like they did flyposes" would be the less desirable outcome of this. I was just trying to point out that even if they are like flyposes then it wouldn't be impossible to use them, just cumbersome, and would pretty much require people to set up some keybinds for them to make them viable.

I use them constantly. All my flying heroes have their specific pose bind. But then, as has been noted, I'm a little weird.

This one's my fave, though.
