I don't think they'll be handing out character rename tokens, rather, they're handing out global rename tokens.
Hypothetical example: one night you come home drunk and decide to change your global handle to "Poopoo Plader". The next morning, in addition to the hangover you have this sinking feeling you did something you shouldn't have. Thankfully, that was the night of the 16th and today being the 17th you can change your global handle back.

An in-game friends daughter changed his global to @PeePee; just because it was funny

I am so glad to hear about this (though I thought the same as someone on page one, that this was about names being released on inactives at first.) I had just started deciding which toons I was going to delete to make space; now I can move them to servers more active at the time I play during the day.

I chose Champion three years ago 'cause I was told by several friends that it was the server to go to for red side action.

I moved a character to Champion however long ago to support one of the less-active chapters of the Legion of Catgirls SG family, and somehow it became my main server.
Certain bars are just set higher here, and I like that.
I came to Champion because my friend who introduced me to the game was here. I think he chose it because it was first alphabetically

I picked Champion because I played Champions the pencil and paper game. Thought it was a natural fit.
I figure I can be ignored on any server, but you can only be ignored in that very special way by your first server that makes you feel all warm and gooshy inside.
