Alpha Slot Removed from Going Rogue
I mentioned this elsewhere, but I don't think that this should be read as the Incarnate system now not requiring a copy of GR to work.

Sooo... GR has nothing but 1-20 content we have to wait till I19?
.....****,
D:
I missed out on trying the alpha slot *Cri*
Hope there's some Endgame going into GR. I'm pretty sure with the quality we got in CoV, there'll be mid game content going in.

All your gonna do is just farm behemoths anyways.

I was referring to the content that we will have to pay for. Tip missions are free with I18 IDK about the side switching. Even so more things for L50s to do was a big thing for me with GR with that being cut... well it just feels like I was cheated.

Also, there was only going to be the Alpha slot in GR - the other 9 slots were always planned for I19 - GR was only going to include the first slot as a preview of the system.

Doesn't sound "cheated" to me.
Positron didn't feel that whatever the Alpha Slot does was good enough for the players. They're not taking away your shiny new toy to be mean; they're taking it away to make it better. And really, since only the first of ten "Incarnate Levels" was initially stated as being included with Going Rogue, it's not like we're losing that much. I mean, would you rather them just completely do away with any sort of preview for the Incarnate system and just wait until Issue 19 to unveil everything? I personally wouldn't. And if there's still a chance of getting a little taste of the system early, albeit later than originally advertised, I have no problem with this.
Positron: "There are no bugs [in City of Heroes], just varying degrees of features."
Eh.
So Going Rogue:
- 4 powersets (2 available now, for pre-purchase customers)
- Ability to creat any of the 'original' villain/hero archetypes as a neutral
- 1-20 praetorian content
- morality 'tip' missions for Isles/Paragon characters 20+ (Note: all customers can play tip missions, but only GR owners can change factions)
- Endgame (incarnate/alpha{?}) content for 50's. (delayed?)
As is, I'll play the 1-20 new content, then exemplar back to run cross-faction content for the fun of it. If the post 50 advancement waits for a time where there's more post-50 content, color me happy.
Bit bummed by the loss for now and I only hope the rest can make up for it. Still two new powersets (for me), two extra character slots, Praetorians from 1-20 and alignment shifting. Still worth it.

Okay I give... what the hells an Alpha slot????
So I wonder if the people in Beta are taking this news in stride, staying calm, discussing how it's a great system that just needs a little work and is well worth the wait for I19
or are they in full mouth foaming total flip out mode?
Positron just posted this announcement in the announcement discussion forums. I understand a repost seems a little unnecessary, but I don't know that I definitely would have seen it considering it isn't in the regular announcement section.
I know its been common knowledge for a while that the initial phase of the Incarnate system would be available in City of Heroes: Going Rogue. As you know, Ive been spearheading the End-Game system for City of Heroes, to give players a lot of what theyve been asking for: more powers, greater customization, more epic battles, and most of all, more content to do with their Level 50s.
That last point was something that we got great feedback on in the GR Closed Beta. Even though it was just a sneak peak, the Alpha Slot doesnt benefit the player in a way that we had envisioned it would. Because of this feedback we have decided to act sooner rather than later.
Since Alpha Slot Incarnate Abilities do not exemplar down (and we're not changing that), we find that players end up with Power that has limited use. We recognize that the Alpha Slot experience is something that a lot of you are eagerly awaiting for and we want to make sure that it is awesome, and most of all fun, when we bring the system on-line.
We still want to do an Alpha Slot Sneak Peek, but we want it to happen once more of the system and content are closer to being ready for prime time.
We want to thank everyone who tested and gave their feedback on the Alpha Slot, the drop rates, the costs, and especially how they see the Abilities interacting with their builds, math-wise. Your testing has been invaluable and we have learned a great deal in a short time thanks to you. We now feel that the Alpha Slot and Incarnate Abilities will have a much higher impact when they are ready to be rolled out.
Thats not to say you cant continue to discuss what you have seen in the beta. I encourage the dialogs that you guys have started to continue, and we will continue to read your thoughts and feedback.
We hope this helps you to understand why weve come to this decision and appreciate your patience while we continue making the Alpha Slot and the rest of the Incarnate System the best that it can be.
