You must be going to different WoW official forums than what I was going to when I played.

They're called "WoWtards" for a reason, Kali.

Because their stated reasons are ridiculous.
I could think of a way to leverage it into more money...

Offer a return to aliases if you pay a slightly higher subscription fee. Say, $19.99 per month for a WoW sub + anon forum access. The "regular" subs, who may or may not use the forums, can continue at the traditional $14.99 per month. Regular subs use Real ID to post.

And yes, as I linked, there are employers who do not want to hire WoW players.
Obviously this is also an issue, especially with a community that tends to be connected to their character a little bit more, a game that has more loot that can be "stolen" or players who feel "slighted," and for players who tend to play a bit north of casual.

Honestly, I didn't even consider the problem of gender this would present. Not just for the females who don't want to be harassed by the horny, lonely teenage guys they team with, but what about the male players who play as female characters? All we need is one loose canon homophobe to attack someone for "pretending to be a girl" and now we have a whole new kind of hate crime on our hands.

not really, maybe some action needed taken, i mentioned the whole "get a sufficient number of mods and enforce the existing tos" idea earlier, but this idea is simply one made in ignorance of the considerations needed for doing business online, and really is baffling given blizzard's usual name for good customer interactions. they drew their pistol to shoot the problem, and instead team killed half their allies, if i may make a game related metaphor.

doesnt matter, enforcement of the existing rules by a large and trained number of moderators could have thinned the moron herd fast, that is blizz's job really, they bring in more money than some countries, get a sufficient sized moderation staff, or get them pursuing disruptive elements more aggressively, they have the tools already to deal with the tools. Baker's law is, bad customers chase out good customers,http://thenonbillablehour.typepad.co..._law_bad_.html investing in and empowering the staff to deal with bad customers would only help them in the long run.

(i'm so droll)

Oh I know. And I do. Though as far as I can tell, Facebook only checks for reasonable sounding last names.

I know.

Apparently my last name sound fake to them.

Studmeister is a perfectly valid last name!

I just imagined them over there saying:

"They're called "CoXers" for a reason, Felicia D."

I always use something like CHV and I never ever ever use "CoX" to refer to this game.

Why not? X is a variable, and you aren't sure what one likes most. It's almost gender neutral and the most useful. I love CoX.

Because we're reasonable, intelligent, polite, and well-spoken, while still fairly wacky and fun?

Seriously, dude, them making fun of us would be like how Joe got treated in Idiocracy.

There's plenty of useful discussion on the forum, and the majority of posters are not trolls. The trolls are just the loudest and insufficiently moderated.

I actually had a very similar conversation over there last year.

Not that it matters (probably not even to Blizzard) but this is the final straw for me. I've had a WoW account for a while. As of this afternoon, it is canceled. First, RealID was "totally optional" and people shot down complaints about how invasive and stupid it was by pointing out that you could just not use it. Now, it has extended into the forums, and it is *not* optional if you wish to post. I'm not waiting around for them to extend it to the Armory (which you already have no way to opt out of) or whatever idiotic direction they go next.

Do I expect a "massive customer backlash" and millions of people to cancel their accounts? No. Gamers have, as a group, proven that they are very loud but essentially spineless. Look at all the screaming over Modern Warfare or Left 4 Dead 2, both of which easily wandered into the top ten for launch sales figures, even with all the "boycotts."

So, I'll exercise the one vote that I have on this issue. I'll be taking my gaming dollars elsewhere. On the plus side, Blizzard just saved me about $150 a year, so it's not all bad. *Edit* Actually, they've saved me more than that, as I will no longer be considering Starcraft 2 or Diablo 3 for purchase either.

You're probably right. Whether or not Blizzard does this though, they're never getting my dollar again.

Except they haven't and they're not going to, ergo a pox on the houses of both Blizzard and WoWtards.

I can't find the edit.

Also, I was part of the WoW community as well, and I wasn't trolling and flaming. And I was participating in constructive discussion, as were many in the role forums (esp tanking and healing).

Your sweeping generalization's pretty falsifiable.

You talking about "sweeping generalizations" is hypocritical to begin with, given that you yourself just said you made sweeping generalizations about CoH players on their forums.

But you're just astroturfing for the game, so whatever.
