Your best bet is to just stay on full teams and run story arcs, TFs, and just play your &^% off. Make sure that your lowbies are running with mishs that are of a higher person's level (anything +2 to you) and run at the highest difficulty that your team can efficiently handle)

With the extinction of Bridges with the new SSK System, you're not going to see the leveling speed you enjoyed a year or more ago.

(Now, someone may say there's a faster way that leverages the game mechanics in an exploitive manner, but I'm not going to be the one to do that. You can tease the Ban Hammer on your own.)

Do you want to PL him so you can team?

With Super Side-Kicking, you can team effectively even if you aren't close in levels. They also removed most of the "level gates" to hazard zones, making a large majority of the content available to him as your sidekick.

OTOH, if the aim is just to get him to be HL, the others have aleady given you the answer.

Get a high level character of your and form a team with him as a member, use the police radio to get mishs, or any other way to get mishs. I'd fill out the team also, more fun, better chance that tanks or controllers will make the missions easier for you.

This.

Or you could run a "level-appropriate" Task Force or two. Hang out at his level and so forth.

Mini-guides: Force Field Defenders, Blasters, Market Self-Defense, Frankenslotting.

So you think you're a hero, huh.
@Boltcutter in game.

Heroside is easy. Get to 10, then run Task Forces.

It's better when there's content rather than sitting in the same mission, not doing any work.

You could also roll a new toon and play with him, that way he gets to experience the whole level-range with rather than just skipping right to your level-range.

And then promptly quitting the game because "there's nothing to do".

In fact, if you go this route consider forming a "level pact" (or is the term "pact bond"? Don't recall) with him, which may be a mechanic you aren't familiar with if you haven't played in awhile. You have to do this before either character hits 5th level, but it locks the two characters together in XPs so even if one of you plays more or less then the other, they stay in exact synch for levels. Not strictly necessary now with SSK, but still an interesting way to do shared backstory, complementary powersets/ATs, and so on.

But I'd definitely second the idea of having him play up through the levels, from a couple times getting level bumped on Test, its fairly hard to get the hang of most characters when you get them with all their powers, and thats even if you are familiar with the game. Its a lot more forgiving at low levels to learn the controls, what mezzes are, etc.

I'd suggest against PL'n your friend if he's a new player. Your best bet is to let him level on his own (maybe help him out with some more "legit" teaming) so that he learns to use his powers better. Otherwise you'll just end up with yet another incompetent level 50 who doesn't know how to use his powers, and everyone who teams with him will hate him and you by association. And if this happens, then the terrorists win.

I must say, with all the changes made over the past few years (xp smoothing, patrol xp, travel power availability at lower levels, etc etc) I can't remember the last time I actually PL'ed anyone.

The only time 'the grind' bothered me in this game was the lower levels. Now they buzz past so fast I don't have time to get annoyed with stuff and I'm off to Talos almost before I can shout GREAT SCOTT!
