Fort Build - (Almost) No Budget.

Hi guys, I was hoping you good people could have a look at my build and see if I'm missing anything horrible or if you have any general slotting advice/nitpicks that would be great. I'm having a lot of fun with this Fort and am looking forward to start putting together it's finaly build.

I am quite attached to Psi Tornado just for a another AoE to spam when Dark Oblit isn't up against big spawns. I know its animation is slow (and its not really optimum) but I quite like the power and the fact I can put a Force Feedback proc in to feed my obsession with recharge to get Psychic Wail back even quicker! Also, this build is mainly based on Silas' Fort since I thought it was such a great build (and thanks again to him for the ideas!)

Well, here it is, feel free to tear it apart if you so wish.

curious to see what veterans think of his build....considering trying it.....only questions tho -

with no self heal why not take aid self?

how is the endurance issues with this build?

how does this build do when trying to farm?

End is fine on this build.

Potentially taking Aid Self for i19 though not sure, since I get plenty of greens/oranges and can stock up for more important situations.

I wouldn't farm with it personally, as I have better toons for that, but I guess it could pretty easily against the right foes.

Looks pretty mean. And as for the aid self option I've never needed it on mine, and mine's a melee fort. Controls + softcapped defenses means dying isn't something you see too often, esp with an "oh ****" button as potent as psy wail.

And psy wail is the -only- reason I went in as a melee fort... it's that friggin nice. What's even nicer is having 31.5% global damage + double FU + double assault + aim (total 171.5%) before firing it off!

Again, nice looking build.

Thanks Person34, i totally agree with the fact that you don't really need Aid Self. Your fort sounds like great fun as well! I find myself just using Psychic Wail pretty much everytime it's up, instead of an "Oh £&@!" button, as it's up every few minutes with a high recharge build.

Stacking assaults sounds like a solid idea, and I Lunge and Dart Burst while I was levelling up for some variety and to ramp up my ST damage from the hidden status. So many great options to go with SoA toons!

Glad you found the guide helpful

For my build though, most (if not all) of the credit should be given to Kahlan. He helped me with my build (which is a slight rework of his build, heh).

I can't look at it indepth atm (at work, boo hiss) but will take a proper look when I get home. Looks very solid.

The Aid Self thing I had been contemplating myself for i19. There isn't really anything else I'd want and would be decent with minimal slotting. It's basically a free respite, especially nice given how easily you can fire it with the defense Forts have.

I dunno, I'll have to do some playing with Mids. Psi Nado with the FFB is definitely a good idea, I'll have to give it serious thought.

I refuse to change my stance on Psy Scream though

I haven't messed around with a Fort build in over a year, but I remember on mine I used Dart Burst instead of Psy Scream. All of the numbers are better except it has a shorter range, just another option if you want more AoE.

Regarding Aid Self, I've found it pretty useful when soloing, but much less so on a team. So, if your playstyle involves a fiar bit of the former, go for it. If not, then there's probably better options.

I'd take Psinado if it didn't cost 21.1 endurance. The DPE isnt too hot unfortunately If forts had a real endurance management tool I would consider it more.
For comparison the Psychic Wail that Forts gets actually costs slightly less than this D:

Widow's don't get End management? Thier base recovery is higher than the standard due to Conditioning. That means Stamina, Miracle and Numina are boosting a higher base number. Right now Miracle and Numina are easier to get than ever with a-merits and Stamina isn't even going to take a power slot soon.

And you still won't have nearly enough end

Conditioning isnt anything like the tools other ATs can get for endurance management. It's a nice perk, but not enough, imho.

Haha, what the christ I didn't even know it cost that much. That's ******* awful.

Yeah, I don't solo much unless I'm switching sides or getting a badge mission for an Accolade really. I think I'll respec into Aid Self and see how it plays out.

You really want to get Mind Link and Hasten perma on an expensive Fort build.

To give you some different slotting ideas, this is what I'm running on live:

The goal was Dominate > Subdue > Gloom ST attack chain, with as much AoE as I could stuff in.

Yes, some of the Fort AoEs are less than stellar. But in my opinion even mediocre AoE damage is better than zero AoE damage.

Psi nado is also a choice spot for the FF Proc.

The build is softcapped to both Ranged & AoE with Mask Presence running while suppressed.

You can easily swap out a few things to keep the powers that you want.

Some other opinions:

Aid Self: Not worth the 2 slots for a general team focused build, unless you are planning to solo AVs or do stunts with "no temps, no inspirations", skip this. Carry some greens, and a med pack temp power and let your team handle the rest.

Endurance: on a team, it's generally a non issue. Again, carry some blues, and a recovery serum temp. I don't really run into a problem soloing either, only on extended fights alone against something like the massed EBs on the ITF will see my blue bar whittle away.
