I play WoW currently, but my friend that plays this asked me to try it, so i made a couple toons on his account and I love it. So I am starting with a trial and when that ends upgrading it. I was wondering what is the best/easiest class to first start out as? Any other help/tips would be appreciated thank you.

and sorry about posting in here, didn't see the player help forum until I posted this.

A lot of people suggest a blaster to start with. I like a scrapper as well - these are both hero side.

Villain side I would go with a Brute.

If you want the more populated servers, go to Virture (RP) and Freedom.

I would also suggest going to the server forums to meet people and find out the best global channels - it's been a while since I messed with Global channels, so I'm afraid I don't recall how to set them up.

Check out Paragon Wiki (not Wikia) - they can probably explain it and have lots of good info.

The main thing I would suggest is try them all. You have lots and lots of character slots.

What role do you like playing in MMO's?

Scrappers are the most straight forward AT in this game. Brutes and tanks are similar, but tanks lack damage and some people do not like the brute game, though Im personally a fury bar fanatic.

Blasters are fun, but their mid-game can get mighty frusterating as their whole shtick is mass damage with 0 resistance/defense. Stalkers are the redside blasters, but they are melee range. Think of the stalker as the WoW rogue, cept its not all lame like WoW. Dominators are pretty sick too, they are the redside controllers except instead of secondary support, they do massive damage.

The typical support role AT's are the corruptors and defenders, both are fun, depends which game you want to play (red or blue, hero or villain.)

The more intricate support AT's are the Mastermind and Controller. Both very fun AT's, both very powerful AT's. MM's have henchman to do their work, which is pretty epic. Some MM sets can be a bit of a bore though, because they arent as button mashy as the other AT's, since your henchies are doing your work. The key thing to a MM is micro managing the squad. So if you were into War3 and such strategy games, the MM may bring a bit of that style energy into the RPG world. Trollers are fun because they are set up to take their enemies out of the fight via holds/mezzes, and then their secondary is support so you can buff/debuff. Two very fun, powerful, and complex AT's.

Dont decide if you like the toon until AT LEAST level 22. At 22 you can access SO's, which completely change how each toons play is. Seriously, this is pretty key. You will find it a breeze to get to 22, so its really not a problem. This is the hands down most important information I can give a newcomer.

I'd say Blaster.

Blasters don't have to worry about group support, all you have to do is blow crap up. The lack of defenses will teach you to play smart while solo, as opposed to, say, a /regen or /willpower scrapper who will just mow through everything with mad abandon. Playing a blaster first will teach you to be careful, when to use inspirations, and overall good playing techniques.

Easiest class to play, would have to be a Scrapper. But more importantly, what's fun for you? What roles are you used to fulfilling? Are you going to be soloing a lot, or mostly in a group?

I've played WoW before as well. It's not bad, there are some similarities ... but loads of differences as well.

First thing to know coming from WoW, is that heals are the absolute weakest way to stay alive. Whenever possible you want a buffer (Forcefields, Sonic, cold, etc) in preference. Lots of WoWers think that since heals are so important in WoW they must be important here too. They are useful, but not critical. So if you find yourself teamed with a buffer, trust that they will keep you alive. Forcefields in particular are amazing. Just keep an eye out and if your shields time out, ask politely for a refresh.

Second, don't rush to 50. There is very little end-game content. The devs have always encouraged people to play through, this game is about the stories and the journey to 50 and they expect you to make multiple characters.

That said, as asked already what was your favorite WoW race/class and role?

Or a debuffer

Hiya and welcome to CoX!

When I first started I decided to go the scrapper route because I like being in the middle of the action. I ended up picking a combo that was very endurance hungry and quickly learned about the game mechanics because of the choice.

Read through the various sections and be sure to check out the Player Guides and then experiment.

Hope to see you in game!

Welcome to the game!

I also suggest going the scrapper route - maybe willpower as the secondary or regen.

Biggest thing I learned 6 years ago is that the Fitness power pool is pretty much mandatory for most toons - 3 slots in stamina is almost a must for most characters.

I'd say a something/Willpower Scrapper(or Brute, if you want to make a villain). At 16, Willpower gets an incredibly good survival power, and it only gets better.

Blasters are also relatively easy, but during their late 20's and 30's it can get rough.

Another important thing to remember to avoid getting eaten alive by experienced players: In this game, you do not need a healer to do well on anything. Don't get me wrong, Empath defenders and controllers are pretty cool and you should get one every opportunity you can get, but they're not needed for teams to survive.

And Empaths aren't healers. They're buffers who do a bit of healing on the side

I second this! Best Empaths I've ever seen are the ones who keep fortitude on those who can use it best (which varies based on the team makeup and powersets) and pop RAs on the fly. This "gather for RA" crap just slows the team down.

As for what to start with, I would *not* suggest a WP scrapper. WP is a great set. Too great. With QR and Stamina, a new player will never have to learn to deal with endurance management issues. I think the idea of an easy ride is good in concept, but giving folks a little challenge helps them to learn the intricacies of the game and how to manage those challenges.

Personally, I'd start with a debuffing defender. Rad and Dark are both good survival sets that, with the right tactics, can be very powerful. With this type of build, a player will be able to learn when pulling (and what type of pulling) is best for specific situations. With the recent change to Vigilance giving a damage buff when solo, soloing a defender is *much* easier now than ever before. Perhaps Rad/Ice would be best, as it has some debuffs, some buffs, a reliable (if weak) heal, as well as decent single target and aoe damage, plus Freeze Ray (and Bitter Freeze Ray) for single target threat lockdown. Plenty of survival if you play it right, and learning to play it right is learning to play the game right.

As always, Just my Opinion, feel free to Disregard...
