I'm patching right now, so if you're planning on being in the official tonight, please try to get that done. We may not have enough to field a team, so I'm just crossing my fingers...apologies to Opus if that happens.

Looks like we've rescheduled this to a few weeks from now.

Of course, the 3 v 3 Champ ladder could settle this, kind of...since Exit and Peril are from Opus, Philly is from Con and Joe and I from dUmb...CondUmbOpus?

We meet here on a forum noted for idiocy, in a game noted for regress, in a community noted for elitism, and we stand in need of all three, for we meet in an hour of change and challenge, in a decade with no hope or fun, in an age of both ignorance and exodus. The greater their knowledge decreases, the greater our exodus unfolds.

Despite the striking fact that most of the developers that the game has ever known are alive and working today, despite the fact that this game’s own development manpower is doubling every 2 years in a rate of growth more than three times that of our population as a whole, despite that, the vast stretches of the unknown and the unanswered and the unfinished still far outstrip their collective comprehension.

No man can fully grasp how far and how fast we have fallen, but condense, if you will, the 5 years of PvPer recorded history in a time span of but one year. Stated in these terms, we know very little about the first 9 monthss, except at the end of them advanced man had learned to use the regen to protect them. Then about 3 months ago, under this standard, man emerged from regen to construct other kinds of characters. Only two months ago man learned to blast and use an emp for heals. PvP SGs began less than one month ago. The IOs came this week, and then less than two days ago, during this whole 1 year span of PvP history, the developers destroyed our good source of PvP. Castle explored the meaning of Diminishing Returns. Last night travel suppression and heal decay and mez changes and elusivity became available. Only today did we develop hold spikes and kinless teams and storm MMs, and now as PvP’s new era failed in reaching fruition under adversity, we will have literally been defeated by the copy tool before midnight tonight.

This is a breathtaking pace, and such a pace cannot help but create new ills as it dispels old, new ignorance, new problems, new FoTMs. Surely the opening vistas of PvP promise high costs and hardships, as well as little reward.

So it is not surprising the devs would have us stay where we are a little longer to rest, to wait. But this City of Heroes, this community of PvPers, this collection of test players was not built by those who waited and rested and wished to look behind them. This game was conquered by those who moved forward--and so will space.

If this capsule history of our progress teaches us anything, it is that PvPers, in their quest for knowledge and progress, are determined and will always be ignored. The exploration of space will go ahead, whether you join in it or not, and it is one of the great adventures of all time, and no SG which expects to be the leader of other SGs can expect to stay behind in this race for space.

We choose to go to the moon. We choose to go to the moon... we choose to go to the moon in this decade and do the other things, not because they are easy, but because they are hard, because that goal will serve to organize and measure the best of our energies and skills, because that challenge is one that we are willing to accept, one we are unwilling to postpone, and one which we intend to win, and the others, too.

In other words, Opus withdraws from the ladder. We are going to the Moon.

Good game, devs. You win.

We met and lost a challenge from Opus a week or two ago. Trying to get back on a regular practice schedule, but everyone has real life hiccups that never occur at the same time.

Sucks to see them go even if with all the people they had on the roster I don't see how they couldn't come up with 8 people to keep going. Never really understood why they wouldn't practice with us either but that is just another mystery.

What about that team that True Dark Lord said was forming, have not seen hide nor hair of them and I do know of one more group that is attempting to form up, don't know when they will get here though.

Con is still here.. though it's been difficult with everything in the state it's in to get everyone together at the same time to practice.

We'll see what happens.

Oh I don't know, try to keep the community alive, which how can we do that if very few teams are in the ladder, the less teams there, the less interest there is in anyone else getting a team together to join up. To me the teams that are/were there should be trying their hardest to showup and do matches. This would only show more activity which would draw in more people, as it is now we practice with dUmb, which is fine with me btw, but there have been few matches to draw in people to come watch, which in turn can get people to say to their friends "hey we should go do that. It looks like fun." Lets talk the old ladder official match days, these matches drew in lots of people to watch them, and in doing so, drew more people to join teams/start teams. What we have had lately has been a couple teams practicing pretty regularly and staying with it and the other teams dropping out/rarely showing etc. and this leads to people who have a bit of interest in joing the ladder not want to do it and gives the people on all the servers ammo to say that PvP on test is dead, so why even go there to do it. I don't know about you, but I would rather PvP on test, against the best/ or at least people who do it more than just hang out and farm PvEr's that are entering a PvP zone for the first time and in doing so think they are god's gift to PvP but would never step into an arena match.

Oh well, I know TLDR, sorry about the Psypunk length post.

As fine as a cause that sounds like, it's not a reason that inspires us to practice. Showing up to practice became a grind to us. We had fun practicing when we were there and in matches, but the motivation wasn't there from many of us.

It's a chicken and the egg predicament. If we practiced more, we'd be more visible and might draw more interest. If there were more team variety where we didn't have to schedule set days/times with teams like yours and just showed up (like pre-I13) and grabbed one of the 5 or 6 other teams on Test, we'd probably be more energized to practice/play.

You may have a point, but it's not something that motivates us to say 'hey, let's show up and practice' on a Wednesday night. You should show up on Test because you want to be there and have fun- not because you're scheduled to be there according to your locked in weekly practice contract.

I think most of us who still read the forums will read your post. It was worth saying. I'm not sure what our subscription statuses are, but I think there would be a fair chance we'd come back (in some incarnation) if 2 or 3 teams did form up.

We had fun when we played. But, we just became extremely apathetic over the forced routines of a 3 team ladder. When we talked about it, we really didn't see any signs of the community getting even remotely close to a 5 or 6 team ladder.


That's more or less what we were feeling about things after our cancelled official with dUmb.
