PvP changes
you're suggesting some that has been suggested numerous times before.
i don't think it's going to happen because 1. barely anyone pvps 2. 5 year old game i really doubt they are going to be able to or want to hire someone for something hardly anyone participates in 3. castle is fat |
2. Don't fix it because it's been broke too long??? em.... okay.
3. This I agree with.
Consciousness: that annoying time between naps.
Sunstorm was the pvp dev for a while, the red on his name up and vanished one day and he hasn't posted in quite a while.

wait, you mean to tell me we could've just made threads with suggestions, bug fixes and pvper input? I didnt know you could do that.
a good litmus test of a server's pvper population would be to say something stupid on /ac. most other server's will be silent while freedom will bring the lulz. over the years, ive noticed theres a direct connection between a good pvper and a bizzare sense of humor.
and to the OP: dont bother, noones listening.
ya know in light of the i13 pvp being the "success" that it was. I'm beginning to think that it isn't entirely castles fault. why? because if you really look at the system it has some good things and bad (albeit more bad) but its really a half done system. It wouldn't surprise me that there are some things, pvp being high on the list, that castle wants to continue to look at and finish but the higher ups wont let him(I'd also include CoP and base raids on that list). IMO, the majority of the devs seem more like RPers, coughanimatedtailscough, and think that since pvp was already "fixed" theres no reason to look at it again.
Positron's i13 letter: We are trying to make PvP more accessible to new players, while giving experienced PvP'ers the advantage that comes with formulating tactics around the new systems we're putting in place. PvP from now on will be on our priority list. If something isn't working out, we'll be in there tweaking it and making it work, for the entire future of the product, not just Issue 13.

m3z is right about the percentage of people who actually pvp. Zones might be full on [popular server], but the grand total of subscribers to the game who RP or PvE overshadow the percentage of those who PvP.
There's no learning curve established besides what few powers to spam in certain situations. And new pvp'rs will be dumbstruck in a zone if they can't disrupt an X vs. 1 combo or shark+shark+shark+shark attack.
Also, I like the tags to this thread.

Not sure if its allowed in forum rules or not, but either way I'd like to refer people to a suggestion regarding PvP found here:
http://boards.cityofheroes.com/showthread.php?t=224080 On top of this I really think Paragon Studios needs to hire a developer specifically for PvP changes. Its not a system thats easily fixed and even long running titles have minor changes every now and then to keep them balanced. In the current system we get a bunch of changes at once, then its not looked at again for an issue or so. If it was directly someones job to work on PvP issues then there would be no excuses as to why problems cant be looked at. Granted PvP is not a huge area of the game but most of that is simply down to a bad system in serious need of work. i13 was basically a big dump of changes on the community with very little support afterwards, PvP isnt a one fix issue, there is no wonderfix that suddenly makes things perfect and when the devs realise that they will start realising the possibilities that high end pvp has. Endless end game content being the biggest one. Anyway, flame away |
The funny thing is that the Devs have stated the interest in PvP isn't enough to warrant resources and time on improving it. Coincidently its the very changes they themselves implemented that drove away the interest.
I used to PvP competively in another game; with hundreds of other Guilds and a development team that supported PvP almost to the point of excluding the rest of the game. I don't PvP competitively in this game because it's a waste of time. I don't even consider what I do "PvPing" as I spend most of my time farming people in zones for PvP IOs.
If you are truly looking for balanced competitive PvP and a development team that cares and supports its PvP community, I would recommend another game.
if u want fast pvp that doesn't blow, play quake :>

I can't see any major PvP specific changes being done at this time, on balance issue 13 hindered PvP here more than it helped, and at end of the day, they have to justify the man hours, because they are a business. With that said, look at going rogue, the side switching should have a huge impact on PvP ( i have no idea if it will be for the good or bad), and its always possible they may squeeze in a few PvP changes as well in it. The one thing that makes me nervious about it is this, today I have a choice of facing Stalkers with Sharks, or HP capped SS Tanks with Fossilize in terms of which toon I chose to pvp with. After going rogue, its entirelly possible I'll be facing Stalkers with Sharks AND HP capped SS Tanks with Fossilize.
On the flip side, given that many of the difficulties with PvP here is that this game was never designed for it, it was tacked on much latter. If the rumors are true and there will be a CoX 2.0, its entirelly possible that it would be better designed from the ground up to support PvP.
