Texas, I've been thinking about the same thing - everytime I run the CohHelper it can't locate the registry entry which worries me.

I've found the regisitry using regedit so I know it's there - and according to the CoH Wiki it's in the right place.

I've double checked and I am running both the updater and CohHelp as an admin - still no joy

OK, that seems to indicate that there is something else on your computer that is keeping CoH Helper from reading the registry settings.

Please download and run HiJackThis and paste the log of the results. Don't remove anything, just have it run a scan and then paste the output of the log here.

If the game spit out 20 dollar bills people would complain that they weren't sequentially numbered. If they were sequentially numbered people would complain that they weren't random enough.

I hate stumpers too T_J. Whatever it is, it's pretty funky.

makes me think you may have an infection. I'd suggest running a scan of your system with something like Malwarebytes and see what it finds. Whether that is the cause of your issue is unknown but if you are infected, it can't hurt to get cleaned.

alrighty, this is what tech support told me... And before i blow money and be laptopless for a while, i wanna see if this sounds like it could really be it or not.

"It sounds like you video card is not managing memory allocation for different resolutions properly. At this point the only suggestion we can provide would be to contact your laptop manufacturer and let them know you are having trouble with an OpenGL application and they may need to replace your video card."

*sigh*

Ouch....

Guess if I have to go down that route I'll try scavanging a card from my old PC first - just in case.

yeah, i have no luck on that probably. but yeah, i'l wait and see what our tech gods in here say if that sounds legit to them.

I would tend to agree that it looks like an infection of some sort, especially coupled with the entries listed below:

O4 - HKLM\..\Policies\Explorer\Run: [Policies] C:\directory\CyberGate\antivir\antivir.exe
O4 - HKCU\..\Policies\Explorer\Run: [Policies] C:\directory\CyberGate\antivir\antivir.exe

I'd recommend scanning with the free versions of both Malwarebytes and Spybot S&D

Be sure to update them after installation and before running scans.

If the game spit out 20 dollar bills people would complain that they weren't sequentially numbered. If they were sequentially numbered people would complain that they weren't random enough.

Considering that everything we've tried that SHOULD have gotten you working has failed, I've been leaning a bit towards a hardware issue but really didn't want to bring it up since I know it's likely out of warranty. Probably just barely out of warranty at that.

If it is still in warranty, point their techs to this thread, they can read it even though they can't post. They'll see why it appears to be Hardware related just from seeing things that should have an effect NOT have an effect or not be accessible (Ultra Mode settings in Safe Mode for example).

Sorry, but that's the way it looks to me.

Well my machine was infected.... 9 viruses in total

All cleaned and another fresh install done.

Still no joy - and still getting the error on the CoH Helper

Think I'll swap out my graphics card for an old on when I can spare a hour or two and see what happens...

Any suggestions for a new card?

Regrettably, I can't think of any reason to disagree. Given everything that's been tried, it should be fixed by now.

Check your warranty to be sure. Otherwise, sorry dude.

Given that you were infected and the CoH helper is still acting odd, you might consider a reinstall of the OS. Drastic I know but sometimes even the best cleaners don't or can't undo all the damage viruses do. It's possible you still have some errors or other OS damage that only a clean install will fix. Whether it will fix CoH is a whole other question.

For a card suggestion, I personally am using a 5850 made by XFX and I'm loving it. Be sure whatever you do decide to get will fit in your case and that you have sufficient power for it. The newer cards are power-hungrier than the old ones as well as longer so power and space are important considerations.

alright.. question..
if its something wrong with the card, why is it that CoX is the ONLY game that doesnt load for me?

The other games are likely DirectX games whereas CoH is an OpenGL game.

There is a program out there called furmark, that is an opengl stress tester. I don't know if it's any good but it might tell you if it is the opengl that's bad.

Hey there folks,

I have pretty much the exact same problem.
I'm not very techy, and I don't know about registries or what HijackThis is, but here's the situation:

The game works just fine on my 4-year old desktop, even though it's pretty junky by this point.

However, I just got a brand-new Alienware laptop as part of my school program and CoH was the first and only game I've installed on it. I was looking forward to running in Ultra Mode for sure!

The updater goes just fine and the patches get made... but once I hit Next the game never progresses past the blue Loading bar.

I don't know the exact specs of the laptop offhand, but I'm running Windows 7.

Any ideas out there? Sorry I can't provide more in-depth technical info, but if you tell me where to look I'll post what I can.

Thanks!

Hi, didn't read all of the posts here, but my buddy was having the same issue as of the last update. *Getting stuck @ loading bar*

He was able to fix it by, starting in safe mode, getting in game, resetting all graphics to default, exiting, going back in normally, at which point he was able to log in. He was then able to adjust his graphics settings back up to handle Ultra Mode.

No idea why this happened, but this method worked. He's on WinXPSP3.

Run CoHHelper and post up the results for us. That will help us know what you have. But my first suggestion would be trying an update of your video drivers. It's entirely possible the ones the system came with are out of date and thus may be your issue.

Hey there,

Did you try running it as Administrator? It also requires .Net 2.0 be installed. Check those things.

It is known that there are an infinite number of worlds, simply because there is an infinite amount of space for them to be in. However, not every one of them is inhabited. Therefore, there must be a finite number of inhabited worlds. Any finite number divided by infinity is as near to nothing as makes no odds, so the average population of all the planets in the Universe can be said to be zero. From this it follows that the population of the whole Universe is also zero, and that any people you may meet from time to time are merely the products of a deranged imagination.

I did run it as Administrator, pretty sure .Net 2.0 is on, but I'll check it out.

Guys - what can I say - other then THANKS!!!!!

Your advice was first class - I'm back up and running with full CoH.

The advice given here has been better then the support from NCSoft - you've been faster and treated me like an equal and not a complete PC noob...

So what was my problem...
Simple - a virus.
Even though I had AVG and Kaspersky scan my system, and used a Malware programe from here to clean my machine it seem the pesky little buy had done it's work.

As noted the CohHelper could locate my CoH registery entries - eventhough I confirmed they were there.

The soultion - harsh I know - but a total format of the hard drive and a fresh install of Windows 7.

Problem solved.

To anyone having the same issue (see there are some new threads on the smae subject)
I wouldn't suggest doing this as a first option - but if you've similar issue then you might want to consider this prior to shelling out for a new card.

One thing I would recommend - listen the guys on the board - there good

Good to hear you got it solved. Unfortunate it took such a step to fix it but sometimes that's just how it is. Now get out there and kick some evil rear! (Or heroic rear if that's your thing).

Glad to hear you got it running Jade_Warrior.

If the game spit out 20 dollar bills people would complain that they weren't sequentially numbered. If they were sequentially numbered people would complain that they weren't random enough.
