A small request...
In mother russia you dont ask to join a team, the team MAKES you join!
<-----wants a whip emote! (checks off list, thank you Going Rogue! *smooches*)
<-----wants female & customizable MM pets!

You know what I do when I hear a knock on my door, or hear my phone ring, and I don't feel like talking to anyone?
I don't answer it. I manage to do that, as well as read incoming tells ingame, without taking offense at the fact that someone is trying to communicate with me. |
And I am not offended by people trying to communicate with me, I am annoyed by people who assume that I want them on my team.
Here's the bottom line: If you do not know that a team is looking for more and you ask to join, you're doing it wrong.
If a team broadcasts that it is looking for more, then it is not rude to ask to join the team.
If I'm looking to fill a team, and you have your LFT flag up, I'll ask. If your flag is down or your message indicates you're not interested, I won't ask. Because I am polite and respect the wishes of others.
When you ask to join a team without knowing if it is looking, you're basically walking down the street, knocking on doors until someone lets you in. You cannot convince me that is an action that is respectful of others.

oi vey if he doesnt want people on his team he doesnt have to have them no rule that if you have 7 you need a eight
I completly agree with smersh it is rude to ask to join a team i prefer to invite ( non blind)
its easy if team leader:
" level looking for ( number that adds to eight on team) send tell with at"
If not team leader and i am looking:
change search field to looking and broadcast ( DONT SPAM) lvl looking for team " i never had to do this more than 10 mins beforte i got a team
If Smersh doesnt want people sending him tells to join his team he doesnt have to its his 15 dollars...( + 15 for wife)
as Ood Sigma said....We will sing to you, Doctor. The universe will sing you to your sleep. This song is ending. But the story never ends.

Actually +$30 for me... I have two accounts.
Siberian Spring-50 (Cold/Rad, Rad/Ice, Ice/Rad, Sh/Ice) - KGB SS8
Chernozem-50 (Ice/MM, Emp/Ice, MA/Regen) - KGB SS8
Wila-50 (Dark/Arch) - KGB SS8
Also: Krassivy Mechtayu-50 (Ill/Rad) - KGB SS8; Ms. Hypatia-50 (Dark/Regen)
...please do not send me a tell inviting yourself to my team. If my team was looking for more, I would have broadcast it and invited people that way.
If you send me a tell saying "Any room? or "Can I join?", I will not reply, I will ignore you. It's just rude. Thanks. |
It's not rude and if there is room I will get them on the team. Some people just want to get upset about nothing.
Heroes : Angrem (50 Stone tank), Exo Inferis (50 Fire blaster), Exo Proteus (50 ill/emp), IceVengance (50 cold defender)
Villains : AtomBomb (50 Rad/Kin corruptor), Aleks (50 SS/Inv brute), StoneLethal (50 EM/Stone brute), Davroz (50 Bots/Dark mastermind)
how is asking a question inviting themselves to your team they aren't saying PUT ME ON YOUR TEAM. or I NEED AN INVITE. they are simply asking if you have room and not following you team into a mish so you might as well invite them they arent forceing you in to an akward situation like a person going with you to said movies and once again real life and MMO's are diffrent donte be so serious its a game and one more thing if you think its rude your problem but when you make thread about it people will make comment on the subject thanks
|
The fact that they don't have to doesn't make it any less rude.

Agreed.
as Ood Sigma said....We will sing to you, Doctor. The universe will sing you to your sleep. This song is ending. But the story never ends.
Sending somebody a tell asking if you can join their team is nothing at all like knocking on random doors asking for money.

Because there are better ways to find a team.
1: Broadcast that you're LFT. 2: Post your search flag. 3: Ask around on your global channels or supergroup channels or coalition channels. 4: Form your own team. |
2: Always do, but still, see #1.
3: Been doing that on three different channels (not frequently enough to be an annoyance), but again, see #1.
4: Not feeling competent enough to form, manage, and lead a team at this hour, but at least able to support a team by shooting and mezzing things. Also, majority on search are flagged Not Looking anyway. And I am not going to assume that Not Looking means Looking. Additionally, if they are set Not Looking, but their search string says otherwise, I am going to go by the flag instead of the string. Because I know that there have been plenty of times that I have not been looking for a team, yet I frequently forget to change my search string to nothing or to specifically state that I am not teaming. So I figure others are very likely the same way.
I'm not offended, I am annoyed.

Is there somewhere that tells you what the proper etiquette is for team searches/requests? Not that I know of.
Sending someone a tell in an MMO is not rude (unless the tell itself is rude). An MMO, somewhat like society, is a grouping of different people with different ideologies, beliefs, social mores, etiquette etc. Some may not think you would be offended with a simple tell...others may...we all have varying ideas of what is the proper conduct here. I think most of us deal with it in game and are more than capable of communicating with the person in game. Not very many of us come on the forums to make such comments (based on my observations, of course).
This post is pretty much the definition of 'making mountains out of mole hills'.
Ya know. I must say.. the OP of this thread just sounds like a whiny lil .....! Now see, THAT was rude. Me asking if you have room on your team is NOT rude. Get over yourself and stop complaining about things that are seriously just..stupid.
As someone who is not the team leader most of the time, (And when I am, I'm on a TF 99% of the time) I really hate getting tells asking to join. Usually, they're while I'm on a map...you know, doing my best to help keep my team alive, and moving as fast as they can. Stopping to ask the team leader if he wants some random person I don't have a clue about is not going to happen.
Usually they're from people who don't bother to check if you're on a mission. Usually they're from people who tell you nothing about themselves. (Level? AT? At least give me that much if you want me to have even a remote chance of adding you, huh?) And all too often, my politely declining results in nothing more than another tell a minute later from the same person. (If you -must- spam the entire list, don't do it repeatedly, thanks.)
And, yeah, to me it's like cold calling. If I want something, I'm sufficiently competent to go get it. I don't want people calling me to see if I want what they've got.
Lastly, I often do put a message to the effect of, "Please don't send tells when I'm on a team." Strangely, it doesn't seem to help.
I won't bite your head off if you ask to join my team, (at least the first couple times you do it) but, man, I'm almost never short of a team when I'm actually looking for one...there seem to be so many better ways of getting a group.
Hey, gots any room in joor thred? Kin Whale join?
OPs complaint doesn't make sense.

Personally, I don't mind a friendly tell to join my active and AWESOME team. y'all feel free to ask to be on my team if you want
I could walk down the street, knocking on doors asking people to give me $20.
The fact that they don't have to doesn't make it any less rude. |
Yes, because the two things are exactly the same in every way.*
The "similes" in this thread make my brain hurt. Real Life != Pretendy fun-time-games on the internet. Someone asking you nicely if they can join your team isn't rude.*
I'd definitly take a Killer Whale if there was room on my team.
Anywho, figured I might as well start using my forum account some day, and why not start with adding another opinion.
But first off, everyone has their own methods of dealing with various issues in-game. Some are issues with technical aspects, some are issues with community aspects. An issue where you're being asked by a stranger whether there is or isn't room on your team available for them to occupy isn't, in my mind, very offensive at all.
Personally, I'm pretty secure and confident in my personality; when someone asks if there's room on my team, I give them a polite and informative response--usually at the time best benefiting me. If I'm in the middle of a huge battle pummeling foes senseless, I'll wait until after the battle to quickly reply. Something brief and to the point, like, "Sorry, private team." Usually I'll type fast and add something a little more descript such as, "Sorry, private team--just me and a close friend."
Takes less than ten seconds, before I'm leaping into the next fray. Not much of an inpediment to me, no hard feelings on the bloke, and all is well.
Now I will tell you what ruffles my mohawk, and that's when I see everyone talking about how easy it is to find a bloody team. I live in bloody Alaska, and every time I get on, it seems like the world of Heroes and Villains is solely up to me to either save or dominate. There's practically no one on. So when I set my search message to, "Friendly, brawling Brute, looking for anything!", set to 'Looking for Team', post a message in Broadcast every five minutes, as well as Virtue LFG, and encourage other folks who are looking for teams to join me in making one--I rarely get any takers! And it's the most bally irritating thing.
So there's plenty to consider on both sides of the issue. Is it -really- that detracting from gameplay, or really that emotionally infuriating to be asked a simple question? And does the other person perhaps have valid reasons for resorting to more private and direct communication? What does it say about them, but what also does it say about yourself?
Anywho, I hate saying 'I' in forums, but since there isn't really any other way of telling folks what one's own opinion is, I guess I'm gonna have to bite my lip and go along with this for now. Please don't take me as one of those snobby intellectual-wannabe types though--I just deal personally with people every day in my job, and I've learned how to respond over time; I just apply what I do every day to my virtual community as well.
Good heroism / villainy to yer'.

yeah i dont really get how its rude i like being team lead myself so i ont get a chance to do this but "/r not looking for more" isnt that hard to type or just dont reply if that same person keeps on pestering you then by all means get ingore them but one little tell isnt that big deal and relateing life to an MMO dosent really work in the real world it akward to ingore someone you know but dont care for in an MMO not that big of a deal
