Lost - SERIES FINALE! - 5/23/10
Daniel Dae Kim had a minor recurring role on 24 as 'Agent Baker', tac team leader.
Henry Ian Cusick appeared on 24 during season 5 (Theo Stoller, German intelligence agent) with Stana Katic (Collette Stenger, information broker). I wanna see Jorge Garcia on Smallville next season as Bouncing Boy. |
Loose --> not tight.
Lose --> Did not win, misplace, cannot find, subtract.
One extra 'o' makes a big difference.
For some fun uncredited Terry O'Quinn work, watch Old School.
I watched it a few years ago and just started cracking up when T'OQ showed up, never noticing him in the movie before.

Food for thought:
When Desmond first said, "see you in another life, bruthah." to Jack way back when.
Coincidence, writers foreshadowing, or Des already seeing things others can't?

On a tangential note, I have been asked by my father and a few of his friends to write an explanation for the show. Not that they are utterly confused, but I have been known to catch the littler things. I am trying to go season by season and touch upon major themes and mysteriesfor each season (and I already discussed the two major themes for all seasons: free will vs. fate and science vs. faith). So far, I can definitely tell how Doc Jensen was driven so crazy!

I don't think so, though my memory is also shoddy. I think he just says they are no longer candidates, elbows Ben, and gets out of there.
I do love it when he says "I heard Desmond is down a well. I'm here to save him. Looks like someone beat us to him. Oh, well." Maybe an unintentional pun, but I dig |
I haven't rewatched the whole thing again, but I did see that first bit - I was struck in particular by the impact of the music on the scene with Rose and Bernard - ignoring the music makes the scene almost boring; focusing on the music there makes Locke seem preternaturally threatening. If/when I rewatch the whole series, I expect that the music will be much more interesting...

So I walked to work today and I was pondering the Aaron question some more. Why did the psychic say something bad would happen if Claire did not raise Aaron? I think I can retroactively fit an answer (aka fanwank):
The psychic saw "Purgatory." Remember, his own daughter was declared dead, but came back to life, so he has some personal experience dealing with the other side. He saw "Purgatory" and experienced it through Claire's eyes. He knew that if Claire did not raise Aaron herself, she would never have the connection she needed to her son to have her "awaken" when he was born. She (along with Kate) needed the motherly experience so that their souls can move on.
Again, I think Baby Aaron was a "prop" along the lines of Ji Yeon, meant to push people towards enlightenment in the Sideways world.
Of course, as I am typing this, "Life and Death" from the Season 1 Soundtrack came on my iPod.

I took it being baby Aaron in the scene because everyone else was in their "Island time" bodies, so why would Aaron NOT be in his? That was, afterall, the form he was in when Charlie and Claire made their connection with each other. Whether or not it was a "construct Aaron" or not, I'm not sure. But when the actual Aaron departs I'm sure he'll be in his "chosen" form.

The debate is really over whether the purgatory construct was purgatory for everyone in that world or just the Island folk (can't even say Oceanic folk, as Ben, Juliet, and Faraday and his mom are apparently awakened) EDIT: Island folk who had a life-changing experience on the Island, hence no Walt or "real" Aaron.
I think clearly David and Helen are constructs. They represent something Jack and Locke both wanted. Doc Jensen points out that David was the son that Jack wishes he could have been to his father. Sideways Jack and David had a messed up relationship until the end of "The Lighthouse," when Jack apologized and promised to do better. David accepted. Meanwhile, in the real world, when Christian finally admitted he had a drinking problem and went to AA and asked forgiveness from Jack, Jack rejected it, which led Christian to Australia and his death.
Also, I can't believe I didn't catch this, but Doc Jensen points out that the friendly relationship between Jack and Juliet in the sideways universe is not only an extension of their relationship on the Island, but also their desire/guilt over the bad relationships each had with their exes.

I think it would have to be a construct, like David. While there was a real Aaron to base it on, I doubt the form he would have after his death would be one that would make it incredibly difficult to be awakened in. His brief time on the island would hardly have been the most important time of his life. And having the awareness of an infant would also be a real b**** when trying to "awake."

ABC execs admit that they put the images of the wreckage over the end credits, not anyone directly associated with Lost, as a way to ease the transition to the local news.
So that wreckage has no baring on the story, and is, as some of us said, just a nostalgia thing.

On a side note: I'd like to know what it was that turned MiB to Smokey. I half-way expected Desmond to come back out as a white Smokey.
|
The only reason why I don't think anyone else turned into a Smoke Monster was a) Desmond is immune to that (cause of Smoke Monsterness: electromagnetism) and b) Jack was pure of soul when he sacrificed himself.
|
1. There are skeletons around the light and water at the bottom of the cavern. Based on this, we can logically conclude that being too close to the light means you're toast. It would kill a normal person.
2. Desmond resists electromagnetic anomalies. He's not a normal person. Hence his ability to remove the stone and put out the light. Sure, most experiences leave him with a big headache, sometimes a life threatening nose bleed, and a new found understanding of his life, but other than that, he's hunky-dory.
3. Jack goes into the cave while the light is out, and rekindles it before dying. And lets face it, moving a stone back to a plug hole doesn't make light. Like Springsteen said, "You can't start a fire, you can't start a fire without a spark." I believe the light in Jack (the little bit of light in every man) was what helped bring back the light. So Jack's death, in my belief, was actually from the Light, not the knife wound. After all, on the island, you bounce back from stuff like that. Yes, this might be fan-wanking, but at least I'm building it on established facts from the show.
4. MiB could not be killed by Jacob. It was by Jacob's direct actions that MiB went into the Light. Not being special like Desmond, he should have died. But since Jacob could not be the one to kill MiB, the Light had to do something different to him. Instead it turned him into the smoke monster, and it's implied imparted, him with a part of Itself.
There, 4 good facts to show why no one else became Smokey.

This ending was good, and the series overall is the best I've ever seen, but in the end there are a few mysteries that I wish they would have solved. Nothing huge but just...little tiny things that would have been so simple to explain away.
For example: What happened to Ben's childhood friend Annie? I believe at one point the writers said that Annie was one of the most important women in Ben's life, but we never heard anything about her after that one flashback episode. Have they ever said why they never explained what happened to her? Did she die in the Purge or was she evacuated with the other children before the Incident?
Okay, here's another nitpicky thing. I've heard a few people complain about Daniel having the last name 'Faraday' when neither his mom (Hawking) or his dad (Widmore) have that name. This is something that is really simple to figure out on your own. Personally, I just assume that off-island, Eloise simply married an unknown man with the last name 'Faraday.' He adopted Daniel as his son and at an unknown point in time this Mr. Faraday either died or divorced Eloise. Eloise took back her maiden name of Hawking, while Daniel kept his adoptive father's name. There ya go. Discrepancy solved.
There was another point I wanted to make, but now I forget what is was, so...yeah.
Sci-fi Wire must have read our thread: they talk about projects lined up for most of the cast
I like somone's idea in the comments section: Henry Ian Cusick as James Bond!

OK, i stayed away from this thread untill i finally saw the episode (thank god for Tivo!) and i must admit it was very bittersweet. Not as all inclusive with the answers as i would have liked but i though the acting was superb. Can't wait to get the seris box set and rewatch back to back. A few issues though. I know Walt is like 8 feet tall and has a voice like Barry White but would've like to see something with him . I really wanted to know more about the actual island's history. Oh, and can anyone tell me if they ever answered the plot points about the child birthing thing? That seemed like a pretty big point for a while there.
