I have a problem with inspirations.
Haha!
As we discussed in game, Dechs... I have a problem with inspirations too!
I hate the silly visual effects (All but Greens, Blues, Lifts... Break Frees are... not as bad as the others). I can't stand those circling emblems!! We hateses them!!!
I delete inspirations often, just to get rid of them and prevent the temptation that I'll use one of those silly ones that will give me those dancing emblems...
(Yeah, all the other powers that create those visuals annoy me too, but... I can live with it... since there's nothing I can do about it).
Hehe... I do, however, tend to hoard the tier 3 inspirations, but I'll combine three of the Defenses, Resists, Damages, Accuracies to make greens, blues or wakies... depending on the character/powerset.
So... I think you're crazy... but I'll admit that I am as well... However, I'm not crazy for hating the inspiration's visual effects. Just for other reasons.
My advice: close the inspiration window and never open it again!!

Biggest frustration for me (moreso than the blasters who won't close in to melee range for the Kin's or Rad's heals and buffs) is seeing a teammate in serious need of a green or blue or breakfree or medium or large purple, trying to hand them one, and getting notification that they don't have room. Then a moment later, they faceplant.
Why carry them if you won't use them?
I am also now making heavier use of mediums and larges, since I know they are fairly trivial to get. I also like popping the holiday inspirations as well (usually one and a corresponding small. In fact, that is my reminder of which is which in my tray...keep the gift and equivalent small in the same column)

lol - Thanks Dech for the chuckle of the day...
I *feel* your pain, and I do (mostly) the same thing. I can totally relate to
the issue.
I solo 95% of the time, I usually play squishies, and for each toon, I have a
particular inspiration "loadout" that it carries (varies depending on toon).
I *don't* keep the huges - I sell those for 100K each on market. I do this,
NOT for the cash, but because I know that if they were in my tray, I'd NEVER
use them...
I load mediums and I have a bin of them in each of my bases...
I still find myself making the odd hospital trip with a tray full of the darn things
now and then - and mentally kick myself when I do...
I'm getting better about it though - there IS help for us compulsive inspy hoarders.
Some of that advice is here:
Smurphy's: dedicate a column of them to use and keep empty... <-- Big!
Certain AT's: For me, some AT's have helped me employ Smurphy's advice easier.
With Kheldians, I pop a luck when I see a void, and often a red as well...
Brutes make it easier to chew candy also, because SMASH usually dictates a
faster pace, and Candy helps Fury
Stalkers - it's just SO tempting (and fun) to chew a red or two, and wipe
out a spawn in 3-5 seconds... AS #1 -> Placate Boss -> Crit-Kill #3 --> AS
and Scrap-kill Boss... Smile profusely while hunting the next group...
PvP: For me, I *hate* dying more than I like killing, and THAT outweighs my
reluctance to use inspirations.
I'm not sure if we can be cured of this debilitating affliction, but I maintain hope
that one day, I too will chew through the candy like a spoiled kid with a sweet-tooth,
or my (weekly) teaming friend who plays the (as he calls it) "Inspiration Mini-Game".
Once again, thanks for the chuckle and an entertaining thread... You're not
alone out there...
Regards,

Thelonious Monk
For years I saved insps.
I still save them, but now I'll use them if I think I need them, especially purples before I go into a spawn.
Except when I'm stomping around on certain toons.
On my Stone/Fire scranker, for example:
I keep the Top right slots empty. Anything that appears in there gets eaten or deleted (in the case of awakens) immediately. The rest get eaten as necessary (purples before dangerous bosses like Dark Ring Mistresses, blues when Conserve power's recharging and I'm flatlining, greens when required.), but I still try to build up stocks of high grade insps for the mythical 'later'.
The Tier 3 Red doesn't get touched. Ever. I've had it in my tray since level 1 in Outbreak.
Trying to keep a couple of slots free will remind you of how often they drop, and you occasionally get some very nice serendipitous inspiration drops. Blues when you desparately need them, purples just in time to save you from a boulder lobbed at your head etc.
Warning:
The above post may contain Cynicism, sarcasm and/or pessimism. If you object to the quantities contained, then tough.
We blasters daren't use them... the moment we even move our mouse cursor in their general direction... we die!

Hmm.. I must use the 1-0 buttons a bit too much ;D
However one tip we Blasters must remember is that the F1-> buttons activate the insp tray, so stocking f1 with the same, f2 with another... well that will help.
And death? Is simply part of the attack chain (Rise of the Phoenix).
But nice irony (I think) Scarlet
As for myself I burn through them. Red.. yummy monster goes down faster, yellow: you can never have enough acc. I do not hoard insps they are there to be used and we get more as we go.

They are like candy to me.
Eat your candy.
This kind of candy may not go stale, but you can't enjoy the taste of it when you aren't eating (using) it.
I usually stock my insp tray with a column of break-frees (if I'm playing a non-mez resistant character), a column of rez-es (usually given to teammates), and a bunch of heals (respites and what not). If a character is having end issues, I'll stock a column full of blues.
I have a macro set-up to trigger the heals; I play the game with a Logotech Dual-action game pad.
Stacking pre-set "plans" in columns can help when a crazy assortment is in a tray. I'll set up a column with a red on the bottom and a yellow on top of it. They yellow will still be active for a little bit longer than the red. Then I can just hit the F# twice and be powered up a bit when I head into a boss battle or some such.
But, yeah, eat your candy.
It just make room for more, and it can help earn xp faster, stop you from falling in battle, or reviving you so you can avoid a long trip back from the hospital or cause one of your allies to use a rez that might be better used mid-battle.
I often find myself doing the same as the OP. Hoarding those big insps like crazy. The horrible irony is when I do finnaly feel the need to use them they usually let me down =( I'll pop a big purple but the mobs all hit me right through it or the incomming damage is just a little too much too fast to overcome with a large green. A large yellow followed by many wiffs. This game hates me. &{
Is that so?

If I remember before a scrap I stock up but I don't have a specific regime.

Decide what inspirations are best for your character. In my case, my Blaster uses reds the most, to build damage up and destroy things quickly. My controller uses purples, to boost its defense while it goes into the thick of the fight where its squishy HP can only go that far. Both characters also use Break Frees, so I don't want to lose those.
Then, make files similar to those: |
Eva Destruction AR/Fire/Munitions Blaster
Darkfire Avenger DM/SD/Body Scrapper
Arc ID#161629 Freaks, Geeks, and Men in Black
Arc ID#431270 Until the End of the World

If you've got a full tray, and you're dying, then you have to have something that will help. I at least have the excuse that "I've got nothing small enough I can waste on this little threat."
But back to why I think I have the problem: More than anything else, I think it's pride.
"I don't need these. I can handle it."
Using an inspiration feels like admitting defeat. But then again, it's just a frakkin' game.
Mission accomplished!
This is too funny.

Agree with this. Eat your candy. It's good eating.
Yellows and Oranges are my "scoff them now" ones generally. Excess break-frees are also scoffed quickly. Rezzes are generally deleted if I've more than 1.
Taste the rainbow. From my experience, you will have more fun and feel more super. Eat 'em up, yum! Especially solo.
I have to say though, I do not understand the mental angst over video games. Believe me, I know plenty of folks that have it, I just don't understand it, much like I don't understand why people think hitting others over the head solves problems.
I play to relax, not to get in mental debates over resource management. I leave that for RL.

Relax and loosen up my friend. :-D I carry several break frees constantly on any character that doesn't have mex protection. I wind up asleep or held and POP I am back in action. Fighting Arachnos and find yourself blinded by a Nightwidow? Pop a yellow and give her a huge suprise when you continue to pound on her. When I have them I never hesitate to use a Red when we roll up on the EB or AV that's the focus of the mission. Purples and Oranges provided added defense for that same battle. Unless your team is terrible you can survive without using any against Lieutenants and Minion but when the heavies show up its time to be inspired.
Now repeat after me.. LOL
1) I can always buy more when the mission is over
2) With any luck after I use it I'll get another one, maybe even a better one, once the villain/enemy drops.
3) I can always cash in Merits at a rate of one for one to replace that tier 3 I just burned up on the Arch Villain
4) If NC Soft didn't want me to use inspirations they wouldn't have created them
5) I am a 40+ level and have 20 inspiartion slots. If the team I am on is so bad this isnt enough to get me through one mission maybe I need to find a new team
6) Even on a TF or Trial I can always buy them at Pocket D or in the Arena.
7) My SG has 8 bins filled with them. If they didnt want me to use a few why did they spend all that prestige to store them and give me access
At times I hord too but if its a question, at all, of me ending up face down on the floor or taking out the bad guys... I POP and worry about replacing it later! Good luck :-D
Were always the good guys. In D&D, were lawful good. In City of Heroes were the heroes. In Grand Theft Auto we pay the prostitutes promptly and never hit them with a bat. Leonard
Those women are prostitutes? You said they were raising money for stem cell research! Sheldon
My reluctance to use something that I may need later goes beyond inspirations.
Temporary Powers get the same treatment. If I use the Divining Rod on this ghost, what if I need it later for a tougher fight? I've never used any Electromagnetic Grenades on the Clockwork during that mission, because there might be a time later when things were REALLY tough. I even used my Raptor Pack in tiny little bursts (until I was able to buy them at any time -- then I started using it all the time).
This is why I almost never will take long recharge powers. I don't like Hasten or "crashing" nukes. Howling Twilight is such a great power but I never use it as a stun because what if I need it as a rez? I respecced out of Elude and Unstoppable and Power Surge. Controller AOE Holds are the worst. Clearly not just for emergencies, but too slow to use every spawn. So I wait for a tougher spawn and never use them... except for emergencies.

I usually sell mine on the market for 10 each to get credit towards the Wentworth's badges. They usually don't sell right away, but they do sell, usually overnight or so. Belle tends to hoard them and give them away to other people in battles. I don't think either one of us is very attached to them.
I'll admit that I usually do save the first two I get in the tutorial zone until I'm in a real pinch, though.
We've been saving Paragon City for eight and a half years. It's time to do it one more time.
(If you love this game as much as I do, please read that post.)
Oh good, I'm not the only one who does this. Tier 1s I plow through, maybe even Tier 2s, but Tier 3s? I have to make a conscious effort to go, "Yes, I'll get more, use the damn things."
Though I'm actually more likely, in an AV fight, to toss certain Tier 3s to certain teammates (like the melee combatants) coz they'll probably need them more than I.
