Ouch. I hope you get a new one soon

I'm using my old 6400 for the time being. I sent the new one back to Nvidia so they will either fix it or send me a new one. I'm also running Rivatuner so I can monitor the temp.

Oh-a-oh

What did you tell them?
CoH killed the video card,
CoH killed the video card

Updates came and broke your heart

And now we meet in an abandoned Atlas Park.
We see the MotD and it seems so long ago.
And you remember the settings used to go.

Oh-a oh

You were the first one.
Oh-a oh

You were the last one.

CoH killed the video card,
CoH killed the video card
In my mind and in my char, we can't change it, we've gone too far
Oh-a-aho oh,
Oh-a-aho oh

... Sorry.

I may have to spank you for this.

Whoa, I'm so sorry to hear of your video card woes Chloe! Out of curiosity, what graphics settings were you running at? I'm running a GeForce 9800GTX myself and would like to avoid something similar from happening.

as Ood Sigma said....We will sing to you, Doctor. The universe will sing you to your sleep. This song is ending. But the story never ends.

I have that same card too, so this makes me pretty nervous.

Hope they get it resolved quickly for your Chloe!

Sorry to hear that, Chloe. But, it's an excuse to get a new one, eh?

Now I'm nervous. I'm running an 8800 and its just chugging along, running Ultra Mode when I want it to look cool, but 90% of the time I run in the lowest settings, especially when I'm double- or triple-boxing.

Never argue with stupid people. They drag you down to their level and beat you with experience.

Boooooo to computer problems. Hope you are able to get it fixed.

Thx everyone. I hope to be up and running back to normal soon. I have no idea what caused my card to overheat. I was running ultra mode. It could have been a faulty part or fan. I've sent the part back to Nvidia, so I can't wait to hear back from them. I would suggest getting RivaTuner to monitor your video card's temp. I can play with the old card, but the graphics are pretty sh*teous!

and I still blame Cho =P

I miss my Chloe time.

8800's had issues with bad soldering eventually giving out; 9800s may have a similar issue but that is speculation.

Wasn't there an nVidia driver update released a while back that fried some cards because it accidentally disabled the fan or something? It got pulled pretty quick, but if you updated your drivers at some point that might've done it.

It was my understanding that the 9800s were the low end of the spectrum of what could handle ultra features...i.e. they could handle ultra mode features, but at reduced settings. When you get the replacement card, you may want to try running at the Quality graphics setting, which has reduced setting ultra features in its default settings.

Things like this are why I didn't even think of touching Ultra mode until I got my new PC (was time for a new one anyway). My GeForce GTS 240 isn't giving me any problems, and everything looks purty...

Hope things go well for you, CC.
