Ambiguous Need Team? Tells

Over the past 3 days I have received 5 "need team?" tells from different people. Three times the senders meant, "I have a team, would you like to join it?". Twice the senders meant, "I see you're running solo, can I join so we can be a team?".

Just wondering whether the tell typically has one meaning or the other, or whether it is always ambiguous (in which case, isn't it kind of a worthless tell?).

There's also the "team?", "team" and the notorious "?".

I have always thought that it was case A. Case B should be "can I join u"

Or more likely "join?"

You get /tells?

All I get are random invite boxes popping up.
My favorite was back before SSK. I was on my 42 in Peregrine. Got a blind invite from someone.
Declined and just for kicks /searched for the name.

They were level 2 in Atlas....

I get those every once in a while, especially when I'm running on my main (50 SS/WP Brute). I'll decline the blind invite, check out the source of it and find out its some level 2 or so sitting in Mercy. Lately though I've been getting /tells from people I've never heard of saying that they've been referred to me to power level them for Inf or even real life cash. I've no idea where that started but apparently there's someone out there that seems to think I'm running a PL business not unlike the ones we get spam emails from, or else it started as a joke and spread from there. *shrug*

Eh, i get a lot more tells something like that with no punctuation at all.

"team"
"want team"
"need team"
"join"
"u team"
"room on team"
"join team"
"can join"

Then there are the ones with no punctuation and so badly spelled that sometimes i'm not entirely sure what the person is trying to say, but at least one of the misspelled words seems somewhat group activity related. Maybe.

Those two cases are virtually indistinguishable. If you're solo and he's solo, then you joined his team just as much as he joined your team. Both of those are effectively "do you want to be on a team with me", with no mention of the possibility of other people also being involved.

I simply assume that incoherent private messages are mistells and aren't worth the effort of responding.

The only times I get random tells asking if I want a team (or blind invites) is on new(-ish) toons that I've forgotten to put on /hide.

/hide ftw

I kind of want to go with a snarky answer everytime someone sends me a "need team?" tell, 'cause, yeah, my characters aren't some helpless bystanders who *need* a team, thank you very much.

It's not like "need" saves space compared to "want". I know most likely it is just ignorance, but sometimes I wonder if they purposefully want to be annoying.

And recently global tells of "hey" from people I don't know. I have no idea what they mean.

total kick to the gut

This is like having Ra's Al Ghul show up at your birthday party.

A few months ago got a tell asking for a team to help level fast from a lowby. I wasn't even on a toon to be able to do that. I was on my Traps/Ar defender. Yea.... let's see how that works. LOL

"every defender needs to fight. I don't care if you have to use BRAWL!"

the notorious "?".
A friend of mine sends this to me whenever she's bored and wants to do something. Even if I haven't seen her in weeks, no "Hey, how are you", just a cryptic "?". Either that or the Riddler has nicked her mobile.

When Aion was plagued with RMTers, this was a common way for them to get you suckered into a conversation with them rather than just spamming you with a store message.

That's funny because I did think it might be an RMTer and wondered if it might go there and didn't feel like dealing with clicking ignore them as spammer later.

Yeah if I get a tell which just says "team?" or similar I generally send a polite "no thanks" back. If you can't be bothered to tell me anything about your team I'm not going to join.

When I send out tells to recruit for teams I always include the level we're running at and a general discription of what we're doing ("newspaper misssion in X", "contact missions", "Striga Arcs" etc.)
