Cant decide between Plant/Fire or Fire/Psi
pretty much what the title says i really cant decide
if you guys can tell me some pros and cons about each and how well they solo and do in groups would be a major help |
In a nutshell:
Plant/Fire is great for teams. You do a little bit of everything and most mobs will be held, knocked down, or confused. Tree of Life is a nice regen bonus Brutes will love you for plopping it down during long fights.
Fire/Psi is good (though not as good as it was) for farming large maps. You have a high damage primary teamed with a damaging secondary. You will debuff recharge and regen. If your not afraid of being in melee with a dom..then this is the dom for you.
My level 50 Dominators:
Madame Mindbender 50 Mind/Energy
Fly Agaric 50 Plant/Thorn
Nate Nitro 50 Fire/Psi
thanks for the advice, so basically they both do good damage, plant/fire can benefit the group more and fire/psi is more of being in melee range having to do big damage
Plant/Fire has better damage and control, Fire/Psy has arguably better survivability and end management because of Drain Psyche.
I'd go Plant/Fire. It's a much more potent combo.
The Melee Teaming Guide for Melee Mans
thanks, i ended up making a plant/fire and loving it,
would anyone happen to have a SO build for it? first time making a dom and would love to have a starting point and change it to fit my playstyle, i would really appreciate it, because like i think concealment may be helpful and im not sure which patron is best or if i should even take one...im just everyone right now lol im abit lost
I know you've already created your domi but basically it's:
Plant/Fire - stay at ranged, lock stuff down and kill stuff safely.
Fire/Psi - melee/pbaoe crazy madness.
Fire/Psi is the combo I'd prefer even though I am wanting to create a long-range domi sometime soon (plant/fire or mind/fire I think).
I personally have a ice/earth which works just like the fire/psi would. One combo I'm also considering is fire/thorns.
I'm sure you'd have fun with all combos as long as you're determined whether you want it at range and safe or right in the middle of the mob and crazy fun.
At the moment I am using a Fire/Fire domi and the dmg is wow! she clears a map in the same speed as my fire/kin...
The reason to pick /psi over /fire is Drain psyche but tbh that only gives +regen+recov...
Build a /fire for +regen you get the +end from consume and domination.
Get your self soft capped, and enjoy things like Firey Embrace and stupid amounts of damage and don't ever worry about getting killed.
If it is a choice between the 2 you mentioned I would probably say go for Plant/Fire.
Your gonna love Firebreath btw...
Or if you are confident enough in your holding ability try /fire with soul mastery... It's less defensive but Firey Embrace, Soul Drain and Combustion is OUCH!
Oh and this way you also get another +endurance power.

Thanks Donna, ive decided to reroll my plant/fire into a fire/fire is there anyway you might be able to hook me up with a build i can work off of? would be extremely helpful

but take from it what you like.

once again ty, but is there any reason you didnt take personal force field from mace mastery?
already over softcap
and already had 5 Lotg
Consciousness: that annoying time between naps.
oh okay i see it now
one last thing how is the survivabilty on this build in the heat of combat? are you able to last long against lets set orange/red con mobs? how does that work out for you cuz i see the regen is pretty nice on this build
As it stands this build is soloing s/l mobs on x8 at lvl 53... Bosses are a little trickier but permadom stacking cinders and char soon sorts em out.
With your holds, softcap def and -tohitt from smoke (which can also stack btw) I don't find that I take any where near as much damage as I regen.
Pretty much it is a really fun toon, only thing I would change if I could would be snipe for building domination but I took blaze because it's such a good power on a domi.
But once Dom fires as long as you remember to click hasten within 8-9 secs after it recharges the your permadom so just pop a bf in your initial mob to be safe
hope this helps.,

it helped so much, thank you and now i cant wait to get him to 50 and start slotting im pumped =D
yea sorry was getting mixed up with my blaster which I was tinkering with of late.

Plant/Fire is more flexible, and it is also amazing a LOT sooner than Fire/Psi.
Fire/Psi, despite the buffs to its earlier attacks, still isn't quite "complete" until level 40. That's a long time to wait.
Plant/Fire on the other hand is complete around level 8-12. By then, you can throw seeds of confusion on a pack, let them clump up for a second, and then set all the fools on fire with your meaty Fire Breath. Hard to beat for pure satisfaction, and you don't have to wait.
(I have Fire/Psi at 50 and Plant/Fire at 43, btw, so I can assure you that either choice will be a delight ... eventually. Plant/Fire is just easier to get into.)
EDIT: whoops, I didn't realize the OP had already decided. You made the righrt choice.

Donna, can you post that build long-form for those of us on Macs who can't use Mids to view it?
