Windowed CoX

I've seen people have City of Heroes/Villains pulled out into a window form, rather than full screen, and I'm not sure how to do it. Is there some trick? Maybe something in options?

I'm also curious as to how to run two versions of CoX simultaneously, seeing as how I have two accounts. This has come about as a need for myself since the LCMS Wireless bug that hit once I17 went live.

Any help on either of these issues is greatly appreciated!

Go into the Options screen, Graphics and audio tab. Select the "windowed" option from the resolution drop down, hit apply, and then exit the game. Once you restart, you should be good.

Thanks, SaintNicster.... I'll try that... but will doing that allow me to run more than one instance of CoX? Do I just start up a new updater window while in windowed mode?

Whether in full-screen or windowed mode, one can run multiple instances (if your machine can handle it). Yes, just run a 2nd instance of the updater and launch the second instance just like the 1st.

Yep. The important part is that you are past the updater (into the game itself) when you start the second instance.

This.

You can certainly run as many game clients as you like, but you can only run one copy of the updater at a time.

On a side note, you can open simultaneous windows and bypass the updater by making a new shortcut like the following:
"C:\Program Files\City of Heroes\CityOfHeroes.exe" -project coh
(*You must still run the updater when there is an update. lol*)

Also, to answer the OP's other question about Windowed mode, you can incorporate that into the shortcut as well:
"C:\Program Files\City of Heroes\CityOfHeroes.exe" -project coh -fullscreen 0

For a standard shortcut that uses the updater, but uses windowed mode, modify it as follows:
"C:\Program Files\City of Heroes\CohUpdater.exe" -fullscreen 0

I hope that helps. Enjoy!

Also, just a note: I recently discovered the command "/maxinactivefps" (followed by a number 0-999) that reduces the fps of CoX when it's not in the foreground, which should help performance. It's useful for me, since I have 2 monitors, and often do stuff outside the CoX window, but it should also be useful to you if you plan on dual boxing.

I put my number to 5, I can definitely see the difference in framerate when I'm working on the internet on one monitor, with CoX in the "background" of the other. I haven't noticed what it does to performance, but I'm sure it helps.

Positron's i13 letter: We are trying to make PvP more accessible to new players, while giving experienced PvP'ers the advantage that comes with formulating tactics around the new systems we're putting in place. PvP from now on will be on our priority list. If something isn't working out, we'll be in there tweaking it and making it work, for the entire future of the product, not just Issue 13.

0 of course disables the maxfps command, and setting higher than your normal fps does nothing.

you can add this as a flag to the command line - I alt tab a lot, and have added

-maxinactivefps 5

to my shortcut's target line.

Negaduck: I see you found the crumb. I knew you'd never notice the huge flag.

Issue 17 has really hurt my ability to play multiple instances on one machine. I use the same graphics settings as I did previously, actually I use lower settings, and I have decreased performance graphically on my computer. You may experience some difficulty running multiple instances on one machine that you normally should not. I believe this graphics issue is a "known issue" and is being worked on by the Dev team. The issue has various negatives for various players and one of those negatives is one's ability to play multiple instances on one machine. I can still do it but not to the ability I could before.

I can't do that anymore without seeing major problems.
