Should I pre-order GR just for Dual Pistols?

Hey guys, I can't decided if it's worth pre-ordering GR right now just to play Dual Pistols

I have heard alot of bad things about them

I have a Psy/EM blaster which is fully IO'd so I'm not sure how DP really compares

is it worth it? or is DP no fun

also, which secondaries go best with it?

thanks,

No you should not pre-order just for Dual Pistols... or ever Demon Summoning.

You should pre-order if you feel you would be playing GR when it comes out and do not mind the lack of box free month you miss by pre-ordering.

DP is fun and so is DS. But I would not suggest that being the reason for someone to pre-order.

That being said I pre-ordered awhile ago and have been enjoying DP/DS now. But then again I pre-order everything for this game and get all the packs becuase I love the game.

... Oh and I have DP/Ice and it is a lot of fun. Not sure its the best... but its fun and that is how I roll.

well I'm not sure if I will be playing much by the time GR is released. I might play now and then, so DP is the main reason I would be pre-ordering

I'm basically just asking if DP is a good set or if it's one of the worse sets.

it seems to be lacking alot of stuff, but still looks nice and flashy

It's fun, but you're not going to be outdamaging fire blasters.

Yes like C&E here pointed out its not a high damage set. It is nice and has some cool effects. The ammo swap comes in useful sometimes and it has a nuke that does not have a end crash. But it is nothing your going to pwn and own with right out the box. I myself tried a DP/Dev and that was lack luster rerolled DP/Ice and that turns out to be pretty nice.

But YMMV and I would still stand by the idea of not pre-ordering just for DP unless you really really want it for its looks which is really the big selling point for DP.

Dual Pistols is awesome. It's not the best damage dealer, but it's still a blaster, so things still die. This is what gives me pause:

If you're not sure if you'll be playing GR, and you're considering buying just for Dual Pistols, ask yourself this instead: "Would I pay $30 to play insert your current favorite powerset here?"

Dual Pistols is a lot of fun. I prepurchased on my second account; I'll be getting the Complete Collection on my main account. That said, it is not so great that I'd pay $30 for it if I wasn't planning on using the other stuff included in Going Rogue.

DP is ho hum performance wise. It looks pretty though, if you are into that whole spinny twirly thing.

Demon Summoning is a better reason to get GR. If your decision is based solely on performance of new powersets available now.

Or Energy Blasters, or AR Blasters, or Ice Blasters, or Rad Blasters, or...

Well, you get the idea. Dual Pistols is very cool looking but it's also one of the lowest damage Blaster primaries. You either do about the same damage as Energy Blast with no secondary effect (using incendiary ammo) or you do a bit less damage than Energy Blast with a relatively weak special effect (any other ammo).

Not to say that Dual Pistols is totally bad, it's just below average from a pure numbers standpoint. It's very pretty though, and only about 5-10% below the average on damage so it's not that big a deal.

Cascade, level 50 Blaster (NRG/NRG since before it was cool)
Mechmeister, level 50 Bots / Traps MM
FAR too many non-50 alts to name

It sure FEELS like a big deal. I love DP cosmetically but it is virtually unplayable for me. I am sure once I get him higher level and get him IOed out it will be passable as a blaster.. But right now in the low-mid levels.. I am having a hell of a time. It is new though, so I am giving it time. I'm 100% sure they will buff/tweak it before GR comes out (one reason I'm happy they used this method for pre-ordering).

DS on the other hand, FREAKEN awesome. I just don't know if I can stomach leveling another MM to 50 and be left out of all the end game content..

DP is fun enough. I personally wouldn't pay thirty bucks for one power set if I wasn't already planning on buying GR, though.

Aside from looking awesome (seriously, even though they're silly the animations are very well done), DP is a generic-ish set that's lowish on end usage and has decent aoe. And like people have said, it's output is lacing compared to other blasters.

$30 for DP? I wouldn't.

It's fun and flashy, but it roots you horribly and does meh damage. It's decent AoE, but not brilliant. I've found it weak as an ST-damage set. Purely as a Blast set, I'd put Fire, Archery, Ice, Sonic, Rad and maybe even Dark and Energy over it.

Demons are really fun. I haven't played any other MMs, but Demons are quite potent, and I'm enjoying the heck out of them. They're potent and pretty!

Both are suffering from Flavour of the Month syndrome right now, and I've seen the call of "lvl x team lf anything except DS" on a semi-regular basis.

I'm in a similar position OP. My deciding factor on whether or not I eventually purchase GR may differ from yours, but at the moment the decision is entirely centered on the desirability of the pre order power sets.

For me the answer to DP was easy - no
It is many things I do not like - slow animations, redraw, weak damage

The answer to DS is a lot harder and one I'm still contemplating
It is many things I like - elemental damage, fast animations, forcemultiplication in abundance, and very unique. However, MM's kinda don't stoke the fire for me as much as other AT's.

If you like the game, and plan to be around playing it purchasing Going Rogue is likely to be inevitable for you. If for no other reason than the first few months after it comes out everyone is going to be in Praetoria for one reason or another. So if you don't have it there isn't going to be much going on in the game for you.

That said Going Rogue is going to be something of a decision point for many people. I personally haven't bought it for the simple reason the devs keep saying things that make think "Whoa Turbo slow down there". There has been the painful to watch maneuvering they have done on why they won't merge the markets. There are the unspecified rewards they have for staying pure in alignment. Finally there is the whole matter of just what is the incarnate system ?

I guess my point is, that its good to know what you are buying before you pay for it, rather than not knowing and regretting it later.

I haven't tried a DP Blaster but I have heard it can do pretty decent damage if you take assault and get a few +dmg set bonuses. Even tho yes, DP doesn't have a build up the fire ammo does fire damage over time. Now if you are looking for a damage dealing DP, I have a DP/Kin Corr that has Soul Drain and it has huge damage output. Run in and fulfrum shift, soul drain, throw out a heal and nuke. So soul drain to me counts like a build up but it has to hit.

As for buying Going Rogue just for DP...30 bucks for one set sounds like a rip off and it is. Now if your gonna buy Going Rogue for Dual Pistols, Demon Summoning, Kinetic Melee and Electric Control I would say yes go for it (even tho Kinetic Melee and Elec Control won't come out until Rogue). But you also have to remember, even though you won't be playing much when Going Rogue comes out when you do play you will have new content to mess around with.

On the other hand pre-ordering also comes with DS. Now that is worth it.

My experience hasn't been that DP lags in terms of damage. It's not going to keep up with fire/, but then neither does anything else. A crashless nuke on a
