New to art collecting, need advice
Hopefully I can get some tips as well...
How is this for a basic model sheet?
Here it is.

It's too dark and too far away (i.e. the blurb that points out that there is wire mesh on her boots should be a closeup if you
want it represented accurately... right now it's so far away you cannot see the pattern on them at all).
The font you chose isn't the best for legibility either.
If you did nothing else though you need to really bump up the contrast and brightness... think more like this
Also even though it says trim is powder blue it appears to be purple which might be a bit confusing.
Finally I would suggest you crank up the resolution (the game doesn't have to be playable you just need good clear shots)
and if your system can't handle it have someone on here with an uber rig (I know there are a few ) take the shots for you
in game and send them to you.
I agree with CR the top left one (at least) is too dark, and if you are poiting out something it should be a close up (pattern on the boots). Also this is where the RGB is useful, when you want a specific color for something that a simple eyedroper pick up from the JPG won't be good enough for.
I would also add that you should have at least one full body frontal shot IMO.

Thanks for the input, both.
I'll grab them next time I play, which will likely be tomorrow.
So.
-Mess with the brightness/contrast
-Bump up my resolution a bunch, if possible
-Grab a full body shot
I'll see what I can do!

This is exactly why I go on and on about not using the deepest black for your outfits, people. You might think it's super kewl and awsum, but as an artist, it's ******* impossible to see any detail in the sea of ink your outfit becomes. Unless you're "The Living Shadow" or "Silhouette Woman" you don't want to use the deepest black.
If there's no detail at all to be had, then it's fine. The color choice itself isn't the issue, it's the fact that it ruins any sort of texture you introduce.

...while I'm not real picky about the rifle details, I don't want her coming back with a double-barrel shotgun, AK-47 or cartoonesque elephant gun.

But you're right, if there is a detail that is important, like Planet Girl's logo, having that as another item in a reference shot is very useful. I do like the suggestion that if the artist plays you can save your costume and just send the file. I think that would be very handy information to have.

catch you later , tootles .
My wife tells me all the time, "you have no idea what these people do, you can't expect an answer right after you post something". She's right. She's always right. And I sincerely apologize for over reacting. I hope we can drop any bad feelings and move on.
You sound like you had a doozy of a day, again my apologies for adding to the stress. I hope you'll take back the gift in the original spirit it was intended, I just wanted to give someone who hadn't gotten art yet a small something something. Again sorry to have ruined that...
Tell ya what, if you accept my apology, I'd be willing to color that bad boy.
You don't have to reply now, take as long as you want. Peace bruddah!
Wow LJ your nicer than me I already sacrificed a chicken in his name and called upon the dark arts , you really should bottle that niceness ...id have called it the milk of human kindness but then drunkfu/shia woulda tried to milk you ...and im not ready for art of that to appear just yet .
That sort of niceness can't be found on the internet. Clearly, LJ is Satan.
Also, that post was so hilariously epic, I might need to frame it.
Oooo LJ as Satan, now I wanna draw that.
*sniffle*
That post was a thing of beauty
TJ - First let me state that I can see how some of the follow up responses can be viewed as unneccessarily hostile... But that, for the most part, I do not believe that was the intent. I have found the people on this forum to be amazingly helpful when the opportunity arises and I believe that was the overall intent here. When it seemed you were ignoring the advise I think it only obvious that people would stress again why they think you shouldn't and I do not think it unusual that there would he some bemoaning the fact that you asked for help and then dismissed it...
Talk about your linear thinking all you want but isn't it a linear path from being asked for help, providing the help, being told the help will be ignored and being kind of annoyed you went through the bother?
Anyway, that's how people felt like it happened...
Regarding the gift art, if you feel a simple thanks is a price then yeah, whatever. Personally, I'll say thanks for any well intentioned gift, whether I mean it or not. It's called being polite and having manners. It's not a fee, it's a courtesy.
I get that you meant to get back to it, say more about it, give it the praise it's do (or whatever) but again we bump into a courtesy thing... You were pressed for time but had time to explain how of course you saw it but not time to give a "thanks, I'll write more later" ? Even if that's the case it seems common courtesy says this is one of those times a little white lie is ok... "sorry, no time to look at it, will check out once I get home" would have given you all the time you needed to gather your thoughts on the topic...
Anyway, blah blah blah, what it boils down to for me is this: Chill Out.
Yeah, maybe some weren't as gentle in their help as they could have been but since nothing indicated we were dealing with children I guess nobody saw the need to hold anybodies hand. Also, despite making the first post, you don't own the thread... Other people read it too, that means other people will be seeing the advice you were given and perhaps taking it to heart themselves. That being the case of course people will stress why they think things are important after you pooh-pooh'd them. Not just for you benefit but for who knows how many lurkers ..
Now you want to take your ball and go home? *Over this thread?? *Seriously???
If this thread is indeed enough to make you swear off this forum then I can't help but think there were children here who needed hand holding.
Ask that the thread be locked if you wish, i don't think it's really your ball to take home but whatever... But you really should consider if it's everyone else being unreasonable which is making you go home with your ball or if any "conflicts" in this thread couldn't have been avoided by you simply using a bit more tact and courtesy...
Maybe your linear thinking puts you above such things, maybe it's an excuse to act childish... *But when one of the two people you had kind words for in your tantrum looks at this whole deal like you asked for help and then preceeded to throw feces at those who tried to provide it... Well, obviously you are the one who was wronged. Yeah, that is very linear...
Caemgen, somehow that whole post sounded like Sam Jackson speaking... lolol
I wrote TJ privately to come back, it's all a matter of getting use to people.
I'm still getting use to TA, that artwhore! Goes off and celebrates his lousy birthday all day and ignores my gift...
O_o What honey? No, I'm not yelling at the COH people again... I'm not! I am SATAN!!! Worshipmesendmeyerartz!!!!
Anyway as I was saying, it's worth it to stick around here.

As for staying - I of course totally agree that it is worth it... But while I think this is probably (overall) one of the nicer parts of the forums, spats and such do occur from time to time - Hell, I think I've pissed of everyone here at one point or another. But if you're unable to suck it up through a bit of unpleasantness everyone once and a while and just keep soldiering on then frankly I don't think the internets was made for you...
Seriously. If some great FREE advice is too hot to handle, best to move along.
But some other people have come by and picked up on the good info, so all in all, I'd give the thread a thumbs up. No matter how much control he seems to think he has over the mods.
Actually , usually the mods will close/lock a thread if the OP requests it but only if the op requests it (they lock threads for other reasons on their own of course ).
still theres nothing to stop folks from cutting and pasting the useful info (and there was a goodly amount of useful info I hadn't thought of ) and starting up a new thread minus Texas Justice .
not that we really need another sticky god I hate them cluttering up my threads list , buuut if the information was codified in one place it would be useful as these same questions do seem to pop up regularly
Ah... didn't realize they would lock up a legit thread because the OP failed at the internet.
Could this sort of info go in the already-existing Art Request sticky? I know Bayani linked to a write-up he already did as well.
Even an addendum to The Resource could work, because any artist-types could de-mystify what it is that we look for in references and how the artistic process can be made to run most smoothly, so people don't have to wonder if we'll burn down their hometowns with lasers from our eyes if they ask us questions about it =)

Anyway, as much as I appreciate the sticky threads ('cause when I use the search feature I'll use those to start), I like the "same" questions being raised at different points in time. Every OP has a different reason for asking, so the responses tend to be different. Plus, we all learn things over time, and this gives a more open place to test out new thoughts or suggestions before they make it into a sticky.
Okay, then...
Well, I hope TJ got what he needed out of here...
Seemed like good answers to me.
Anyway...
I grabbed some new screenies in the King's Row PPD,and tried my best to alter the contrast/brightness so that it would be more visible. I even boosted the brightness in-game, but that did nothing. Made me sad.
So. Here is the new sheet.
Any suggestions/changes?

Wow.
Scads of information here.
Sadly, I have no money to make use of any of it here... but alas. Another day.
I will definitely have to make up an in-game model sheet... with appropriate markers and indications, of course.
