Saw somebodies bio for their DS/Trap they grew tired of trapping eartly creatures. So they went to search for more challenging game. Thought that one was pretty creative.

The pets have very good resistance. One of the teir 2 pets has a pbaoe heal and a single target heal. Not something that will keep them alive in a bleeding edge battle, but could easily supplement a weaker healing set like storm or poison, or compliment the regen of traps. Looking over the powers and their numbers the only secondary I personally wouldn't see it playing that well with is TA. But only because TA is so good at maintaining range while DS is a up close and personal set. It could still work though.

I want to try poison or Storm, but not if it means leaving my MM overly vulnerable with no self heal.

those fire whips would be the reason that I would even half consider a pet-less MM.
Not that I am going to mind you. I like pets.
Probably going /thermal. thematically it's strong, mechanically it's strong, and the other thematic options I would consider playing myself, I already have. Already have a necro/dark, already have a bots/traps, already have a ninja/poison and a ninja/storm. I also have a dark corrupter and defender I am currently leveling, so I don't wanna triple up there. /storm was a tempting choice, but I have a storm MM already, and my favorite controller is ice/storm, so again.. trippling up.
never played a therma and it seems strong on all accounts.
So thermal it is. 
With matching green fire, a wicked witch costume and a nice name (already muled, with costume: Amorala)
Wanna do DS/Storm, but the fact that hurricane is 25ft radius and the range on the whips is 20ft is gonna make me avoid using /Storm... yeah I know, kind of a silly reason. Getting into range to whip and blowing things about would probably drive me nuts. Of course I could go without the attacks, but why waste such pretty animations? Plus the debuff gives you a very nice reason.
Made a DS/Poison earlier today. Got him to lvl 3 before I switched back to my main to do badge hunting :P

Gonna go DS/Thermal but will wait till GR to do it. I think thermal is the best overall fit. Enough resistance so they dont get one shotted, and enough healing to make them last longer. I might have to take the attacks for debuffing purposes so I can possibly solo some avs with the set.

/Thermal here. I've never played /thermal before and it seemed like the most appropriate set (visually, at any rate).
So far I'm really liking it. My only complaint is that the build seems really tight since most of /thermal is so good.
