A good starter character?
Hi all.
I've decided to move from the Europe servers to one of the more populated US ones (was thinking Virtue, yay RP) and will be starting over so to speak. And I was wondering if anybody had some advice on a starter character that would still be fun and effective to play when you start from scratch without any infamy and such? ![]() I've mostly been playing red side, but I thought I would try being a hero this time around, hence being a but clueless about the ATs there. |
I'd suggest scrapper. Good at soloing or in team. Doesn't need IOs to be good, but when you'll want to, you can turn him into a god with lots of inf.

Telling us wich villain AT you prefer would help us a bit. =P

I never really got the hang of Stalkers and Corruptors though.
Scrappers seem interesting, especially since I love playing Brutes, I think they share the same playstyle?
Haha, you are right sorry. My favorite ATs would be Brutes Masterminds and Dominators, so I like a wide variety of play styles.

Edit: Oh, and less hp, but a higher base damage. Still plenty soloable.
I second the scrapper recommendation, at least for your first hero AT. They're solid enough to allow for a bigger learning curve than the other ATs.
After (or if your altitis starts acting up), I'd try a plant controller since you say you like dominators. Maybe plant/thermal or plant/kin. Plant is one of the higher-damage control sets, so it wouldn't feel as bad, damage-wise, compared to a dom.
I'm willing to help transfer some of your inf to blueside- it's not going to be perfectly simple because I'm not on the EU servers, but it can be done. I'm @Boltcutter .
Edit: Sorry I didn't answer the original question. I don't get Masterminds or Doms, so I don't know enough to help you.
Mini-guides: Force Field Defenders, Blasters, Market Self-Defense, Frankenslotting.
So you think you're a hero, huh.

If you're switching from the EU servers you're probably living in the EU meaning that you're several hours ahead of US time zones. You'll be able to find teams, but if you're unlucky it might take some time. Considering this I'd go for an AT with good solo abilities. Scrappers are probably the best soloers blue side. But if you roll a Defender you'll trade some solo ability for better chances to get invited to a team (at least that's what I experienced). In the end anything will go as long as you're comfortable playing it.
I had the impression that Liberty got pretty busy during EU prime time, relatively speaking. I mean, not like Big Two busy, but pretty good.
In case you wanted a spare server or something.

I'll echo the scrapper sentiment, especially if you like brutes.
If you didn't like corruptors, don't roll a defender. The two are as similar as scrappers are to brutes.
Dominators don't really have a heroside equivalent. If you play them as lockdown machines, try a few controller sets. If you play them as squishy death machines, go blaster. Neither will have the same feel, but it gives you a starting place.
@Roderick
Scrapper, Any/Any, although Katana/Willpower is about the easiest out of the box character you'll find.
If a player were to stick his toe in the buff/blast world of defending, I would suggest a Forcefield/Sonic. 20-30 seconds of buffing your teammates, then 3.5 minutes of blasting full tilt with the added sonic debuff ala the dominator set.
Triumphant Defenders Forever
Psylenz FF/Psi, ArticQuark Storm/Rad, Symon BarSisyphus Bots/psn, Max VanSydow Thugs/Dk, Cyclone Symon Bots/stm, Blue Loki Ice/Cd, Widow 46526
HelinCarnate:OMG it is so terrible. I have the option to take 3 more powers but no additional slots. Boo F'ing hoo.
