Quick question regarding AE & badges

I was working on the Soul Binder badge (kill 200 Circle of Thorns for all who dont know that) and I was just curious if I could do AE missions that have Circle of Thorns in it and have that count towards it.

Because then I would get exp for it as well as a badge lol

no, cant be done

all badges not AE related cannot be earned inside the AE (this goes for defeats, dmg, inf, heals, mezzes, even the sk badges)

the only thing that can be earned in AE are the 25 AE related badges

I'm not saying it's a lie (I have it too of course), but it's not currently obtainable to new characters/accounts.

The only way anybody has XXV right now is if they had earned it (or progress for it) before the AE badge changes.

There are only 26 total AE badges left in the game.
When you consider that one of them in Hero-only, and one is Villain-only, that makes exactly 25 for each side.
Then when you consider that you need to earn 25 in order to get the XXV badge, it then becomes impossible to do so with only 24 other badges available.

Combine all that with the current bug that the global AE badges don't seem to be counting toward X or XXV on new characters, then the OP REALLY doesn't have a chance of getting that badge the way the system currently works.

Question:
Should those badges be earnable within the AE, and if so, under what circumstances?

I could see, for example, not getting credit for Unvieler (killing Fake Nems) if you ran an arc featuring a custom group of nothing but Fake Nems (for quick and easy farming). But if the entire, normal faction is within the map, the risk/reward would be the same as a non-AE Portal Corps mission.

honestly i think defeat badges should still be left out of AE as it would make them trivial to get

however, the inf, dmg, mez, ect badges should be allowed to get progress in AE because they are just generic stuff (and outside exploits shouldnt be any slower/faster to get than they currently are)

Personally, I feel that Defeat badges could be earnable within the AE, but NEVER within a tweaked custom mob.
Reason: Without it's standard complement of allies to support it, the badge target critter might be easier than usual to defeat.

That's just one opinion though.

well it could also be harder, think of fighting an 8 man spawn of nothing but fake nems, think of the 30 stacking dispersion bubbles and force fields lol

i dont think the devs can specify that it counts only for custom mobs or such, its either allowed in AE or not

Well, for certain target critters being stacked by themselves could be easier, for others, I could see it being harder.
*shrug*

As someone who is currently interested in a few Hunt badges (redside), I might have a bit of personal greed influencing my opinions, but I'll at least be honest about that.

heh, no worries, im a big badger myself (as seen in my sig), ive already spent my time getting all the defeat badges redside (the only few that i had hard time with were the skull bosses, troll bosses, and outcast bosses)

Correct me if I'm wrong, but about that hypothetical Fake Nemesis situation... I thought non-custom mob groups can only run one of each toggle per group at a time? As far as I know, this is why you don't have Tsoo Sorcerers stacking Hurricanes/Chill of the Night in an 8 man spawn.

Again, do correct me if I'm wrong.

If you want to get xp while working on defeat badges, then you can use Ouroboros. Find a mission which will exemp you down to the appropriate level, then street hunt for your defeats. You won't get end-of-mission bonuses, obviously, but you will get xp and drops. For a slower ride to the badges, you can even pick faction-appropriate missions in Ourob, but for boss defeats that could well be a lot slower than hunting in the streets, depending on your AT and difficulty settings.
