Chances of Additional Animations for Existing Sets

This has probably come up a hundred times before, but with Going Rogue approaching the answers are changing as we get closer to release date and more is known.

What, if anything, has been said about adding new animations to some of the existing sets? In particular, some of the melee sets like Broadsword and Battle Axe I could see Back Alley Brawler or his staff make incredible. Is there any chance of it happening, even to a few of the powers (some of the AoE "twirl" powers, the uppercut in Sword, Parry, and some of the heavy hitting axe powers in particular I'd love to see creative takes on). I can also see something great made of some of the existing long-animation powers, like Energy Transfer, which gives BABs team almost 3 seconds of animation time to work with.

I too would like to see some alternate animations for the vanilla CoH sets. Getting so sick of the AoE "air spin" for weapon sets. But not going to hold my breath as it sounds like the devs have a lot on their plate.

Yes. This. I don't really think it will happen in a timely manner - if ever - but I would love to see it. I pushed for it in another thread just today.

I want to make characters that may use a focus item (gun, staff, wand, etc.) to toss out their fire blast or beam of ice. Heck, I'd just like a alternate choice for some animations that maybe don't fit the concept of a particular character (Fire Breath, I'm looking at you) but are pretty solid powers otherwise and tough to skip.

Failing use of a focus item (and all the problems weapon redraw may bring to the table), I'd be happy for some animation alternates that were origin-based in their theme. Like maybe your tech hero could pick the robot MM summoning animation to summon his imps. Or maybe your Rad Blaster could pick an animation that looked a little like spell casting. I wouldn't even care if the bulk of these animations were just ports from other powers, just so long as we had the choice.

Color customization is cool and all but I've always wanted to see it take a few more steps. I hope it does.

I'd love to see the end of "tarzan yell/beat chest" for Integration and Tough. Especially as now they will both cause your character to do again and again every time you zone.

The plastic tips at the end of shoelaces are called aglets. Their true purpose is sinister.

But how else will people know that you're tough?

I think BAB said these would be added as time was found. So the best you can get for GR is a maybe. I'm assuming I17 won't have any, as you would think they would tout that in its features/previews.

I do hope that the weapon sets do get looked at first whenever ones do get added, though. A big drawback for me in playing an Axe or Broadsword character on top of my Mace Tanker is that the animations are all so similar. Those are among the most repeated animations out there, I think, other than the Haymaker/Air Superiority one (though at least that can look fairly different for some of the animations that use it).

The smart way to do this would be to build up a library of animations that can be re-used between sets. e.g. three 1.5 second unarmed melee attacks that deliver the contact 1.0 seconds in. Im pretty sure that some functional duplicates already exist.

Blast sets already have their tier 1 and tier 2 powers normalised like this, so in theory the various animations could be made available between sets. eg extend the X-ray Eyes animation to all tier 2 blasts.

This. Even if they are "old" animations, using them across different sets may allow for your theme to emerge. This first, then look at adding new animation choices.

When I don't die.

The animation from Rage would be far superior than that goofy old Tarzan-Yell.

But everyone knows that slamming your fists against your chest gives you +regen.

Just the other day I was on the playground and this other kid and I got into a knife fight. After numerous stab wounds I slammed my fists against my chest and within seconds the wounds had healed.

I later won that knife fight and my street cred' has gone up accordingly.

Moral of the story: Co* bases its annimations on reality.

Stay tuned for when I tell the story of how doing a fancy backflip gave me super sharp senses for two minutes.

I really hope all this comes to light someday. And while wishing, I want there to be a 'random or cycle' option for certain powers, like SS, that causes all the potential animations to playout, similiar to how certain Dual Pistol animations does right now.

That would be fun. Shields along with Super Strength does this now for some of the powers, too. I believe punch interchanges using your free hand, and then smashing down with the shield. Good stuff.

Har! Glad I wasn't drinking anything when I read this.

That reminds me... I'm very sad we get no gun-butt pummel for Brawl with AR.

I'm not greedy, I just want to see the one handed SS animations that were build for shields to be cycled into the normal SS animations.

The one handed rock chuck is amazing.

I've always thought those two powers should have their animations switched. When a person experiences the type of rage our characters are meant to be experiencing, it doesn't usually result in them repressing their emotions. And you don't suddenly become tough because you're beating your chest and yelling a lot (despite what Spike TV would have us believe).

"You don't lose levels. You don't have equipment to wear out, repair, or lose, or that anyone can steal from you. About the only thing lighter than debt they could do is have an NPC walk by, point and laugh before you can go to the hospital or base." -Memphis_Bill

That does make sense. It'd be wonderful it we could have a choice between them. Tarzan for those that like it, um, 'repress' for others.
