Going Rogue and Archetypes

Is there any reason as to why they (the devs) won't proliferate the ATs between Hero and Villains?

I think that all the AT's, excluding the Epic AT's, should be available to both sides.

You could still have the Hero-Vigilante-Villain-Rogue-Hero side switching that comes with Going Rogue.

Example: I want to play a Brute, but I do not want to be a villain at all. I want to start out as a Hero.

Umm this is excatly what Going Rogue is about, whats the question?

To answer your question, the reason is: No!

You get to start any AT as a Praetorian and play it as Heroic or Villainous as you like, and then make a final choice when you reach the end of the new starting areas.

That work for you?

Then you would simply start out in Praetoria and do heroic things. You would never be classified as a Villain. Then, at level 20, you decide you want to become a Hero and go to Paragon City.

Main Hero: Chad Gulzow-Man (Victory) 50, 1396 Badges
Main Villain: Evil Gulzow-Man (Victory) 50, 1193 Badges
Mission Architect arcs: Doctor Brainstorm's An Experiment Gone Awry, Arc ID 2093

Oh alright...I must have misunderstood Going Rogue.

I thought that, in order to be a Hero Brute, you have to start out at a Villain Brute and then do some story arc that makes you a hero.

For existing characters, yes.

they already stated that if you start outside of praetoria you will have to start as a hero or villain depending on your AT

if you start in praetoria then you can choose to go to heros or villains

as for the details on if this will be lvl related (like lvl 5 minimum to change sides or leave praetoria), we havent gotten that much info yet as to how everything will work, but they have stated that if you want to start as a brute you will have to start as a villain if you dont start in praetoria.

Ok, so in game-lore...in order to be a Hero Brute that is from this earth, you have to start out as a Villain. The only way to start out as a Hero Brute is to be from a different dimension...correct?

Pretty much yeah. Villian AT's either start in Breakout or in Praetoria, Hero AT's start in Outbreak or Praetoria

Excluding epics (Arachnos and Kheldians). Arachnos have to start villain and convert to heroes. Kheldians have to start heroes and convert to villains. The rest of the ATs, you can start off with a currently hero AT as a Hero or as a Praetorian, and the currently villain ATs can start off as a Villain or as a Praetorian. Praetorians, as they level they will gain a classification of a hero or villain (or rogue/vigilante).

Sounds like the AT classifications need to start changing from just Hero and Villain to Paragon Citizen, Rogue Isles Citizen, and Praetorian with a morality of Heroic, Villainous, Vigilante, or Rogue.

I think "Praetorian, Heroic, Villainous, Vigilante, or Rogue" works just fine. Vigilantes and Rogues are dual citizens.

However it sounds as though Praetornains can become either heroic or villainous. 'Praetorian' has less to do with the morality and more to do where the toon started (at least from the information that we know so far). Who knows what the full implications of switching morality or starting a currently heroic or villainous AT in Praetoria will be, so it might make a difference.

So maybe Praetorian vs Earthling
Current Std Hero ATs can start off Praetorian or Earthling, and Earthlings have to start in Paragon.
Current Std Villain ATs can start off Praetorian or Earthling, and Earthlings have to start off in Rogue Isles.
Epics can only be Earthling, Current Hero Epics start in Paragon, Current Villain Epics start in Rogue Isles.
All ATs, regardless of Dimensional Origin or Current morality can change between Heroic, Vigilante, Rogue, and Villainous morality somehow.

Though I'm probably spending too much time thinking about it.

Well, you have to start your career in Pretoria, there are plenty of ways you could do the background to have a Primal Earth character start their career in Pretoria.

You know, you can always think of Preatoria as the "real earth" and the other as the "bizarre alternate dimension".

For instance, I'm creating a Dual Blades/Ninjutsu Stalker that's been sent from Paragon to spy on Emperor Cole and determine how big a threat he is to our world. (Once I reach the end of those story arcs at level 20 and get sent to Primal Earth, he's becoming a Hero.)

In that case then you would just start in the new zone and just be a hero at 20 or w/e

As i recall it was stated specifically at Hero Con 2009 that the current EATs would have to start on Primal Earth and switch later.

okay then that explains it, i didnt go. I'm fine with having to start at primal earth, especially with the arachnos ATs.

No reason you couldn't watch the videos. That's the main one - the first and third have some info too, but it was mostly this one. It's linked to in the Hero Con forum.
