Music Booster Pack

Hey, longtime lurker here. (mainly cause it took me forever to realize "Hey! I need to use my GAME login info to get on") But anyways.

I had an interesting idea for a Booster Pack. I'm sure many people will wonder what the point is but I thought it might be fun, along the lines of the Wedding Pack (the pack has no real reason, just because).

I was thinking make it music themed.

I know a lot of people have been wanting guitars for War Mace or (if you stretch a bit) Battle Axe. So that's one idea. Probably have an acoustic guitar and an electric guitar (something based on the Stratocoaster would probably be the most accepted).

To be honest I can't think of much for 'costumes' since musicians seem to tend to wear the first thing that comes out of the closet. Though I guess this would be a good opportunity to add some nice all around clothes. New leather jackets, for example.

Emotes:
/e playguitarac - Character pulls out an acoustic guitar and begins strumming it Country music style.
/e playguitarel - Character pulls out an electric guitar and begins playing in an energetic Rock-n-Roll style.
/e drumset - alternative to the more tribal drums we have now with drum and drumlow. a drumset appears in front of the character and they hit various points on it [similar to how the pushup emote randomizes which animation it plays]

Some new, more detailed dances (along the lines of the robotdance). I've had friends mention they wouldn't mind having animations similar to the Guild Wars dances in CoH.

Alternatively (or including)
/e airguitar - Character does same animations as playguitarel except without the guitar model
/e airdrum - Character drums their hands as if playing the drums (/e drumset style) but don't have drums in front of them nor do they have drumsticks in hand.

As for extra feature that could be added (Cyborg had combat auras, Magic had Costume Change Emotes, Science had the Super Tailor) could add in an MP3 player functionality. Set up a playlist outside of your game and when in game with simple slash commands can manipulate it like any other media player.
/play *songtitle*
/pause
/nextsong
/prevsong
/vol%% (replace the %% with a number to manipulate volume levels, i.e. /vol67 to put the volume at 67% full)
/nowplaying (just as the name suggests, would tell you what song you're currently listening to)

Back when I played Jedi Knight: Jedi Academy there was a player made program that did just this. A music player you could control from within the game itself. And when you used one of the commands it would give you a message that only you could see to tell you what song is now playing or whatever.

If anyone else has anything to add please feel free to do so. Thanks for looking.

Stretch? Wanting an Axe for an Axe is a stretch?

I think this is a cool idea, but I don't see it really as a necessity. The game's not so bad that you can't run it and itunes at the same time (I usually have The Cape playing), and I really don't see a wide appeal in musician costume pieces.

Simply put, while I like the idea, I don't think it's a good decision for the company.

I agree it's highly unlikely to happen. Just thought I'd put the idea out there while I still had it in my head. Though to be fair. As mentioned in my original post. The Wedding Pack didn't seem like it had much appeal but it still made it out there.

And yeah I usually have my Zune software running while I play but it's not so much the draw on the computer's resources that putting an ingame media player would take care of, it's the having to alt-tab whenever you want to skip a song or something.

For a quick example. Let's say you wanted to listen to Diary of Jane by Breaking Benjamin, you'd have to alt-tab out and look through your playlist for the song. Whereas if the player was tied into the game. All you'd have to do is:

/play Diary
**Now playing: Breaking Benjamin - Diary of Jane**

or say you know what number the song is in the playlist:

/play #21 (or whatever)
**Now playing: Breaking Benjamin - Diary of Jane**

The Jedi Academy program that gave me this idea has functionality to help if you have a number of songs that share the part of the title you're trying to play. Might be a good idea to put that in this too. So... say you type something like.

/play Call
**4 songs in playlist with title 'Call'**
/play Call Me When
**Now playing: Evenescence - Call Me When You're Sober**

And if you don't know the number of the song you want to play? Maybe add in a playlist functionality.

/playlist Might bring up a window listing off your playlist with their number beside them

Yeah I know... doesn't take much to alt-tab. But hey, what's one more thing to make us lazy? ;P

The Wedding Pack was specific because Manticore and Psyche were getting married. THe costume pieces and animations were made specifically for that, and then they were sold as a bundle.

Okay, I'm not big on emotes... I don't hate them, just not big on them... but I've been wondering why we don't have some hard rock/metal emotes. As a short term player of WoW back when, I got a kick outta seeing the Undead's dance emote of headbang/airguitar. That being said... if a music /emote pack were to be a reality, I'd highly recommend it covering as many styles as possible.

/emodance = /idle (sorry, I kid... I kid)

Seriously, I like the idea as a consideration for the future. Rap, Metal, Country, Jazz, and whatever can be dreamed up.

But I'm here to tell ya now... villains don't /dance!

/sign to only the emotes

we don't need need a track listing and we don't need "musician" costume parts (that is also a huge variety as well)

emotes are great thought, actually fits my RPing

Well, I can back a metric boatload of RP-style emotes like /mic, /guitar, /bass, /sax, etc; but not so much the adding a Music Player to the game. Too much chance of it screwing with something else in the game like 3D positionality of Sound Effects in the game itself. It would be like adding a 'Snapshot' viewer like a camera screen for viewing your /Screenshots folder; a nice thing, but really unnecessary as all get out. (Lord, I hope that doesnt become another Suggestion here)

The emotes would be cool to mess with, and give the Boss Jocks (The Cape, W00t, etc.) a real mic to use when broadcasting events in game. Mix that in with another metric butload of dance emotes (a la the other MMO) to make some slick choreography possible, and you will have players like Dark_Respite break the sound barrier getting out their credit cards for the Buy. I couldnt blame 'em either.

I agree with your point about the Axe. I've never heard of a guitar or bass being called a War Mace.
If it happens, then let's get some drum sticks for Dual Blades as well.

Like /drum and /drumlow, I could easily see emotes for other musical instruments.

Since you can already select songs and play them from the emote list, I don't see any reason for song commands. Essentially, we already have access to the ones in the game - including their names.

Well... a electric guitar can in fact be called Battle Axe or War Mace in some societies. There's also numerous customized guitars who does have these shapes. Usually in Viking Metal, Black and other kind of dark nordic metal we refer to our electric guitars (warlocks or other evil guitar designs) as a Battle Axe or a mace we wield to crush the skulls of our enemies and more provocative: 'the christians'.

The Matrix Online had a music player which was very awesome by the way.

I think something like this would be pretty popular

I still want a guitar for war mace.

It was nixed because there are too many different styles of guitar and it would be impossible to please everyone. There are a lot of different styles of sword too....yet there is a limited selection. Doesn't compute for me, but it's the dev's call, not mine.

This would be cool, but you'd have to think of a lot more stuff to add to it before I'd be willing to drop 10 bucks on it.

Moonwalk can be the inherent power that comes with it

Not only an awesome alternative to Walk, but for an effect. PBAoE Confusion :P

Or maybe a self-rez based on Thriller.

I was putting guitars as a War Mace weapon because they're blunt objects (Unless you get into the really heavy metal where they have blades on the sides, in which case it would go in Battle Axe)

The point of the song commands would be for your own personal playlist. Not the songs in the game. But last night I thought more on it and I know I already get annoyed when I'm listening to music and get a sewer mission where the in-game music is tied into the ambient noise so even if you have music turned off it's still on. So in those cases it would get wonky.

I'm just glad I wasn't flamed on my first thread :P

For once, a first-time Suggestions thread that's not something stupid, has been shot down 3 million times before, or nice but technically unachievable. Congrats.

And even without the music player function, just a music-themed Booster Pack would be great. Especially considering the Music Meister has just got really popular.
