Auto attack. Who does it?

A couple years ago I took a page from my Brute playbook for my scrappers (and my rare Tank) and started putting one of my quick activating attacks on auto, and have found that it really has changed my play experience for the better. I can tab-follow to the next target and get off a Smite, Storm Kick, Blinding Feint or Cremate the instant that I am in attack range. This is even more satisfying since they increased melee attack range a couple issues ago.

It does force me to manually activate my click mez protection on /SRs and /SD chars, but I find that a small price to pay for the increase in pace.

Curious how many of my scrapper peers run with an auto attack on.

I don't.

If I don't auto my mez protection, I'd auto hasten. Even on characters with toggle mez protection and no hasten, I wouldn't do this. Also, I find the auto firing mechanism to be a tad unreliable.

I find that the auto attack tends to fire off and root me when i want to be repositioning for using AoEs and it recharges so fast it usually happens again as I have to move after being rooted.

I can see it for the early levels but not a long term setup I'd use.

I like to have total control of what I'm doing.... so I rarely have anything on auto

*points at Iggy's link*. You might not like autofire, but I like watching you use it

This pretty much sums it up for me. I dislike the game doing things for me because it invariably does it when I would want to be doing something else.

The only thing I could see myself autoing is click status protection (having status protection is almost always more important than whatever I'm doing) or maybe Hasten, if I have its downtime to something minimal. If not, then I like the ability to save it until I'm in a crunch, if I so desire.

I like full control. If I want to spam something, I'll spam it. If I want to move, I want to move NOW, not when the computer decides I should. I will very occasionally put an attack on auto. For instance, I might put Divine Avalanche on auto if I'm in the middle of a big spawn and suddenly need to go AFK.

I did put Hasten on Auto on Sergei, who is about 2 seconds off of perma hasten. That may be my only auto on any character. There's probably something else somewhere, but I'm not remembering it.

Usually only hasten or mez protection. I get irritated when I have both because I constantly forget to use hasten.

There are only a handful of powers I set up like this. A Brute, maybe: likely the auto attack will be Brawl. I used to auto attack Taunt on tankers, but seldom do now.

I set up Hasten on auto once I know it isn't going to cause endurance problems, for the characters that have it. When I tried a Kin, I set up Speed Boost on auto to simplify the delivery process, especially in teams where people tended to wander behind walls. That's about it, though.

This may just be a playstyle thing, but I'm pretty clumsy, and even I find manual control to be faster and more effective than auto-attack.

I also don't like people auto-assisting through me.

I use it for a power not in my attack chain, to avoid having to move my fingers off my attack chain buttons... (click mezz protections... hasten... energize... etc)

I dont use Auto for anything, its unrealiable, and if you have a diffrent power cued, it doesnt go off.

I do notice people that put Hasten, as well as Build Up on Auto, and I cant help but think its a waste when they do that.Iv watched a Player on a Scrapper Auto his BU, and it would fire off by the time a mob dropped, and other times, before he could reach the next mob, so he would miss the opertoonity to capitalize on the 10 seconds of power, and just wasted it.

This by far isnt the first time iv watched someone put a BU on Auto, and end up shaking my head when I see it.

There was a time where I tried a few years ago to use Auto for my Rad/Rad Defender, to see if I could get my Perma Hasten and AM up without watching for the next rotation, but it failed pretty badly.

As many others have a habit of doing, I put my click mez protection, or if I don't have that Hasten, on auto. I got into the habit of checking for my non-auto powers to complete way back in the pre-ED days when you wanted to have perma-Hasten and perma-DP on your IH toggled regen. It's managed to stick through the years. Of course, it probably helps that I've gotten a lot of practice learning power reapplication cycles by playing a number of shield basic support toons to 50 too.

I'll always set Hasten on auto if I have it. If I don't have Hasten but have a mez protect clicky, I'll set that. And I've often wished I could auto-set both at once.

Usually when I first make a character I'll set brawl on auto. This is because I don't like to keep brawl on my attack tray (usually have too many other powers there -- even at level 1 I have 1 attack, up to 3 vet attacks, and some sort of minor ranged attack), but in the low levels without a full attack chain it's nice to have brawl going off on occasion. I'll take it off auto as soon as I have a decent attack chain.

Of course, when I'm PLing I'll sometimes set my 2nd account to auto-follow me and auto-fire one attack. I can't really control both accounts at the same time, but that gives me a little extra firepower.

Other than that, I've only ever done this once. On my main character Mouse Police (katana/regen), I found that I didn't use Divine Avalanche often enough, and I also took quite a few of my other attacks, leaving me with a crowded attack tray, so I eventually set DA on auto. This worked pretty well for me. It's occasionally annoying but often quite useful. But even on my broadsword/regen character I avoided doing the same thing with parry.

I would never, ever put Buildup on auto. I want to hit that just before I hit my really big attacks.

I usually have click mez protection on auto. On my Kat/Regen I had DA on auto for a while, but it got pretty annoying for the reasons JAXMAN listed.

I usually have something on Auto, usually brawl. A bit of carry over from playing a brute. I tend to mash buttons rather quickly, so the auto rarely actually goes off, as I tend to forget about it. As my characters gain more and more recharge, I tend to forget powers I should be using vs the big hitters. An auto attack helps me break that mentality.

Ever since I started this game I wished we could have at least 2 powers on auto... Hasten/Mez protect, Hasten/brawl for a brute to keep fury maxed, etc...

*sigh*

Generally the only powers i put on auto are Brawl on my low level Brutes, sometimes Follow Up on Claws users, mez protection clicks, and Hasten on alts that have several powers on long timers. i have occasionally put Divine Avalanche on auto for some fights. Mostly it's just mez protection clicks that i almost always put on auto. Even then in long fights my mez protection has occasionally dropped because i constantly had another attack queued even as the previous one is executing. Especially on my MA/SR Scrapper since almost all the attacks are single target.
