City of Monsters

I have this great idea! Lets make monsters!!!

The story would be, Lord R and the Crey try to creat a power that could kill any hero, but instead they created a beast. A beast bigger the Quarry, and he made many littler mosters like maybe 8-20 feet tall? That will be us : D We could start at level 30, with a few powers like most monsters. Then we do missions... Monsters can talk you know, hahahha.
Then we can rampage in Atalas Part, or Grandvilli killing everyone in sight.

There could be new zones for the monsters. There could be a new zone where villians and heroes work together to kill the monsters! It would be great!!
The AT could be
support/melee
control/defense
range/hechman
defense/range
meele/range

What do you think?

.............. .................? ........ ..... .........???

So we would play as a monster that was created by a bigger monster (so I'm guessing that we will look like the big guy) and do missions and rip the city zones a new one, with heroes and villains being able to attack us........ I just don't like the way that sounds.

Its Powers, his ideas make no sense and wouldn't work without major tweaking.

Sorry, try again Powers.

Yes... when reading the OP, two letters come to mind. And funnily enough, one follows the other on the alphabet.
The letters I'm thinking are N and O.

Not your dumbest idea Power.

Still not a good idea....but it isn't the dumbest one you've posted.

Quite true. Not Power's worst idea ever. That's a scary thought, hmm?

I could get behind this possibly if these characters were limited to a single zone, flagged as PvP only, and were simply player controlled monsters, with no potential for leveling. A player is randomly selected to turn into a monster, while surrounding players seek to kill the monster, which if successful, have the option to become a monster. There would be potential for multiple monsters in the zone, depending on population.

In addition, perhaps allowing players in the zone to flag themselves for PvP or not would allow players not as comfortable with PvP to only focus on taking down a player-controlled GM without worrying about a gank, while other players could choose to go the FFA route.

Sort of like a halo skull match.

However, I only like this suggestion if it doesn't affect any PvE environment, and also becomes a little more PvE friendly for curious PvP'ers.

somebody should submit his ideas to the Guinness Book of World Records. I'm sure some of the ideas HAVE to be record breaking.

Wow this is a great idea I think. I remember Monster Play in Lords of the Rings and how much fun it was. It was balanced in such a way that a player was generally more powerful than a monster, so monsters had to really play like the cowardly scum they were. It was a very immersive experience, with warg packs roaming trying to pick off loners, orcs defiling forts.

I think the better way is to make it that players can play the already present mob characters, that are already part of the lore. You can add some challenge by playing with more intelligence than the mob, but you are limited to the powers the mob already has. So its just a purely for fun thing, I don't expect to kill the hero unless I overwhelm him with numbers!

Example, you enter Creys Folly, and Im playing a Tank boss with a few friends. You can add badges for killing player controlled mobs, and such.

Sorry, but I totally disagree. Monster Play in LotRO was a joke. It was laughable and a total useless experience. The Devs could have spent more time on fun stuff for the players, not the Monster Play, which bombed fast with the beta testers.

Well I'm not sure how you define Usefulness in a game. I mean playing a game overall can be seen as useless. Im sure we can all find far more productive things to do. I understand if you didn't enjoy it I suppose.

It certainly isn't PVP. You aren't logging on the monster side to get that same thrill and challenge you get when you play a first person shooter, or some competitive fighting that happens when you fight other players in Ultima, or arena settings in COH/WOW or whatever MMO floats your fancy.

There enough of a dedicated player base in LOTRO doing that, that last I played it was always active. I really didn't think that I would enjoy it so much, but I loved it.

I think this idea is aimed more on suggesting different ways players can play together. It gives me the same feel as a GM in DND only more limited. You provide something for other players to interact with.

You could for example have certain buildings in certain zones (maybe hazard zones) that can be attackable or stores that can be robbed. You come up to it as some monster, or a mob of monsters, and start slamming the door to break it down, and an announcement would go "Robbery underway in Perez!" and players can elect to go there and fight.

Conversely, when I logged onto it, on Brandywine and Meneldor, it was me, and maybe one other player, in the zone playing monsters. It was dead when I was playing, but this was a month or two after launch.

And yet people now play it almost exclusively...

However, why is it that all these grandiose ideas seem to be an excuse to have world PvP?

Do they now? I haven't been on LotRO since about 5 months after launch, when I renewed for one month to see what had changed, so my opinion is based on that.
