Looking for Volunteer(s) for next Bayani Commission

Hola neighborinos. Awhile ago, I asked for villanous volunteers for a series of Bayani-related commissions called (aptly) the Rogues' Gallery. Thank you everyone who volunteered. There were lots of great concepts and characters to choose from and ultimately decided on four characters: Midnight Trader (Eddy Swan), Kim Paler (Firebrandi), Blackthorn (Thornster), and Massacre Melanie (Suichiro).

I've determined the next series I wanted to pursue, however, I have one commission in mind that I'm hoping to kick off soon, which will serve to close out the Rogues' Gallery and segway into the project called "The Highlight Reel". I'm looking for volunteers, either villain or heroic, to use in this piece.

Bayani's personal archenemy is Crey Industries, for reasons stemming from the short story, "Closure". I'm leaning towards using one villain and one hero for this commission. The instructions are the same as other projects I've done in the past. Please provide clear references, a concise but well written background story of the character, and make your case as to why/how the character would be involved (as a friend or a foe) with Bayani and/or Crey Industries, for that matter.

The artist I have in mind for the project is looking to start in two weeks, so I'm hoping to have a final decision on the additional characters over the next 10 days or so. Thanks!

I give you; Disco Tech.

Disco Tech is a new project funded by the Paragon City government to aid lowering the levels of street crime in those most humane manner possible. The DT-109 is a sentient robotic lifeform which is capable of producing an insanely high decidability.

The DT-109, also known as Disco Tech has been trying to bust Crey for years, but hasn't been able to gather enough allies with the same motivation as himself. Even most of the PPD resources he has are redundant due to this. With a decent ally, Disco Tech would glady watch Countess Crey's empire crumble.

Blood Rose is a human-plant hybrid characterized by green skin and some slight vampiric appearances in most of her forms. (Dark/Regen scrapper)

She is typically an enemy of the Council and 5th Column, also the Devouring Earth have a particular hatred for her(seeing her as a traitor). However, she has had at least one major run in with Crey.

They acquired her genetic material and attempted to use it for their Revenant program to create a crop of Paragon Protectors.

They found the microorganisms that fill Yumi's (BR's public ID) body but decided not to listen to staff warnings that they should not proceed with cloning until they knew more. They also failed to note the relationship between those organisms and the ones that infest the Devouring Earth. In addition, they were unaware that Yumi's precise DNA structure is prone to being altered frequently, and the cycle of mutation, under Yumi's mental control, is part of why normal cloning processes are dangerous with her.

Crey got three samples of Yumi's DNA in three different stages of her natural mutation cycle. None of the three samples were of a stable section of the cycle and weren't completely shifted.

The resultant clones were separate from the collective will/sentience of BR and her colony of microorganisms, and went berserk as a result acting on fragmentary memories from Yumi's past and personality make up. (see the AE arc: 113224 "A Rose's Thorns" for the incident in detail...one mission long).

Between the Blood Rose clones and the Devouring Earth that were attracted to the area, the crey facility was pretty much rendered a deadly jungle.

Since putting down that outbreak, Blood Rose and her family have been keen on making sure their genetic material doesn't get into Crey hands again.

Also, not sure whether it would mean anything or not, but Blood Rose is my oldest active character dating back to Beta-testing and pre-launch.

I offer Anubys Psy to use as a friend to Bayani. Anubys hold a fond respect for other fire users such as Bayani, and she has a strong personality to match her powers. Bayani being such a strong and noble toon, I think he and Anubys would compliment each other well.

I was born to Royalty, then sent away for an education worthy of the Gods themselves. Then at the age of 18 I was to return home to find my family murdered where they slept. All the treasures of my people stolen. The only person I could find that would speak of what happened was a rambling blind man. He told me of a Story of Soldiers of Rularuu, who could weild the powers of a forgotten realm. I have searched the lands seeking out more who have been tormented by these demons and found myself here, in Paragon City. I shall find the one they call Lanaru the Mad, for he shall feel the wrath of the "Fire of the Gods" by the powers of Anubys ! This I Swear on my families Blood, I will not rest till my family is welcomed by Osiris the God of the dead.

Speaking as a fellow foe of Crey, I volunteer for this.
~Dolphin

[edit] Forgot the capsheet...

From his Virtuverse Entry:

Quote:
Dolphin was the first of Crey Industries Paragon Protector: Poseidon Project to merge man with aquatic mammals. His hero name is simply Dolphin due to his DNA splice with a bottlenose dolphin, plus the fact that the name stuck.

He has since severed his relations with Crey Industries and won a public legal suit against them in 2006, claiming independence as a sentient being under the Civil Liberties Act of 2005. That act amended the Constitution to include beings not of human origin as citizens of the United States by way of birth. Also cited was the 14th Amendment's Equal Protection Clause.

While his 'real name' is simply the label of the successful version of the experiment (Dolphin X-2108432, 356-A), he legally changed it to a more human name when he won his freedom in the courts. "Phineus Triton Orion", or as his signature usually denotes: Phineus T. Orion. The entirety of the name is taken from Greek mythology.

Crey Industries' failed defense was largely in part due to the benevolent nature of dolphins in the public eye, and the petitions of thousands of Americans. Petitions were submitted by many organizations, including many marine based foundations such as Sea World International, of which he is now a spokesman.

Crey Industries and The Countess were publicly humiliated from the televised proceedings. After the U.S. Supreme Court ruled in Dolphin's favor, Congress began an investigation into Crey's Genetics Department. Those proceedings are currently stalled.
As for his relation to Bayani, he and Dolphin would definitely be on the same side... especially if it involved oceanic or riverside toxic dumpings from Crey Industries. As an avid Environmental Activist, Dolphin has become a rather large thorn in Crey's collective backside and has been placed on their most wanted list for assassination.

Gold Weaver is Argentinian, speaks fluent Spanish and English, is an expert with paired Short Swords and works as a Henchwoman or Indepedent Supervillain. As the daughter of a hard working but desperately poor Spanish family, she moved into working as a intermediary in the Mendoza underworld, training with various gangs and organizations before she was approached by an Arachnos agent with strict orders to bring her in for Project Destiny. Arachnos wasted no time in expelling her into Mercy as soon as her Arachnos Flier touched down and since then she's gone on to become one of the most prolific unpowered Supervillains to every come out of Project Destiny, although she is always quick to point out that she's not a match for the best and brightest of the superpowered community.

She works as a professional hired-hand for other more ambitious Villains, although she maintains her own methods and standards of operation, much to the ire of the numerous villainous organizations that have hired her in the past.

Okay, I offer one of my villains: Mr. Gnash from the Virtue server. He's a Mutation Stalker (Spines & Willpower).

Background: He is a mutant, the only child born to otherwise ordinary upper-middle class parents. He is horribly disfigured, but has an unusually hardy constitution.

In what seemed a nightmare, he manifested razor-sharp spines during his mother's first labor. Rushing to the front of the house, intending to drive to the hospital, his Mother screamed and collapsed to the floor. She convulsed wildly. His Father tried to help her. Neither survived.

Their housemaid managed to bundle the infant in heavy rags and fled – out of pity, or fear of being somehow blamed, herself, for her employer's deaths, who can say?

She and the child sunk into the bowels of the city, hiding, scrabbling for food and shelter. Years passed, friendless. She taught him what she could. Together they learned to hide, to sneak, to be quiet and unseen, for any who saw the child reacted in great fear and horror. Many tried kill the ugly thing. All who tried, died. Only the housemaid remained.

One evening, he returned from foraging for food to find a motley mob attacking her. “Kill her!” they cried. “She brought that horrible thing into our midst!” “Why would she bring such a thing here?” they yelled. “It will surely eat our children!”

“Your children?!” he screamed. “No, it is YOU I will eat! You! You stupid, frightened sheep! YOU!!!” He lept into them, spines fully extended, bearing his teeth and howling. Only one managed to escape alive, but he did not go far. “If you ever return,” the boy yelled, “I'll gnaw the flesh from your bones!”

The boy then turned to the housemaid. She was badly beaten, barely alive. He withdrew his spines and cradled her in his arms, sobbing. “This is my fault,” he cried. “They did this because of me! I curse the day you saved me! I curse the day I was ever born!”

Her eyes looked at him with a fading warmth. “You cannot,” she breathed, “cannot help your birth, my boy. You did not choose it.” She winced in pain. “Only do what you can,” she breathed, “with it.

Unknown to him, the lone survivor had found a sharp piece of metal and had slunk back to slay the monster. “Die, you awful thing!” the man stabbed at the boy. The boy screamed and instinctively extended his spines, spinning around to tear at his attacker. He flailed and flailed and flailed until he was spent.

When it was over, panting hard, he withdrew his spines again and returned to the housemaid. To his horror, he had impaled her during the attack. She had been near death after the mob's beating, but now there would be no saving her. He looked at her face, her eyes frozen open in surprise. The only person who had ever cared for him, and he had surely killed her.

The years that followed were difficult, filled with bitter loneliness, anger, fear, and hatred. Still, he persevered, he survived. He snuck aboard a freighter that took him from Paragon City to the Rogue Isles. He thought that maybe Arachnos' villainous hordes might accept him more readily than Paragon's bright citizenry had. He was only marginally correct in that. At least there, he could put put his skills to use. It wasn't a nice place. It wasn't pretty, but it would do.

For the most part, he expects the occasional clash with other villains and groups. Thats just part of the game. Lately, however, it seems as if Crey Industries is taking a special interest in him, and they aren't being at all polite about it. He has begun to investigate them, in turn. He is not happy with what he is finding out. The problem is, Crey is big, very big, and has its fingers in too many pockets. He has to admit he is going to need some help, and if the information he acquired from a Crey office is any indication, it just may come from a very unlikely source.

A discreet phone call to a number that was oh, so very difficult to obtain. “Mr. Bayani? Please don't hang up. You don't know me, but I believe I have some information you might want. Information about a certain large corporation we all know and love, whose name begins with the letter 'C'. Information they would not like you to know. I think we should meet...”

Now, I have another little script written, a sort of dialog of the meeting between Mr. Gnash and Bayani, explaining why exactly they'd both want to do this. and I tried to not over do it (Bayani's dialog is minimal) But I know and respect that you don't want anyone writing you into their stuff without your permission, so I'm not just posting it here. I can email it to you if you like - just as a here's why he'd do this. Just let me know.

Thanks for your consideration!

My candidate for this project is Oryo Ryouko-former lab rat, current hero.

She was 'created' by Crey to basically be a 'lab rat' for experiments for their supersoldier program, specifically to see how long it would take for powers to manifest. She has no one parent; her DNA is a nightmarish mishmash from about 20 different sources-some human, some...not so human.

She managed to survive and escape, when it came to be time for her to be 'terminated', but burned a Crey facility to the ground in the process.
Subsequently, as she appeared to be 4 years old at the time, she was taken and adopted by a family in New York, while being trained to control, and use her powers. Recently, she has returned to Paragon City to take a job with the PPD, and to start her crime fighting career. (She's already had a few brushes with Crey, as well as with others.) While Crey has officially denied all knowledge of the program Ryouko was in, they have been looking for a chance to reclaim their 'lab rat' and terminate her. As she's a pyrokinetic, that may not be so easy..

As it's been about 13 years since she originally surfaced, she's well known to the Superhero community..so Bayani would remember her from his parents' stories...

Hidden Hero a.k.a Arden Greenberg is pretty much an average ninenteen year old.. unless you consider the fact she can make bones stick out of her body. Born to the Canadian super hero family the Toronto Patriot Family, fighting crime is in her blood.

Because her family is well off, they have had the oppurtunity to fight crime in almost every continent. Hidden Hero has noticed that in quite a few of the conflicts Crey has been 'silently' involved. Hidden Hero found it suspicious that such a 'humanitarian organization' would involve itself with drug and war lords.

However, since she has come to Paragon City HH has discovered that Crey is exactly what she though it was: a corrupt business that is tarnishing the name of big business. She plans to investigate further into just what Crey is up to.

I offer up Ytse. My Kin/Sonic defender

(Note, it might be hard to tell in the sceenshot, but the purple of her costume and her cape gradually brightens as you move towards the bottom of the skirt/cape)

The short version of her background is as follows:

Ytse (her real name is Anna)'s father was a scientist working for one of the many labs that scatters the landscape of Paragon City. He thought he was working for an independent medical research corporation, but unknown to him, the lab was a front for Crey Industries researching cloning technology in use with their Paragon Protector program.

Over the years, her father began to piece together bits and pieces of information, eventually discovering the true intent of his research. Appalled at what they were using his work for, he attempted to leave the lab, only to find out the identity of his employers. He knew too much to let go and was too useful to kill, so Crey management arranged for him to disappear into one of their top secret high security research facilities. They also arranged to kidnap Anna to hold her as collateral for his good behavior.

Unwilling to let a resource go to waste, they used Anna as a test subject for various bits of technology they were developing. Chiefly they implanted an experimental weapons grade sonic amplifier in her throat, along with several other implants giving her fine control of the kinetic energy of objects around her. (She can also teleport objects and herself)

The implants were deactivated when she wasn't being actively tested to prevent her escape, but one day after testing this deactivation failed due to a glitch in the system. She managed to escape the Crey but was unable to find her father or any mention of him in the lab's computer system.

She believes her father is still alive, hidden somewhere by the Crey and she has dedicated the rest of her life to finding him. While she's not opposed to helping others in need, her true focus is to oppose to everything that Crey stands for. In fact, when facing the Crey she can exhibit a single-minded ruthlessness (born from her anger at what they did to her father and the experiments she was a part of) that can sometimes get her into trouble.

This is part of the reason why she seeks out other like minded individuals to assist her in her fight and keep her grounded. The other being that she knows she can't find her father without help. This is conceivably how she ran into Bayani.

Trick Candle is a fire/fire brute

References here

Dierdre grew up believing that Heroes were Wrong and Villains were Right. Her parents raised her in the ruins of the Nerva Archipelago and in a very strict upbringing and severe punishments if she used her budding powers around them. It's no surprise that Dierdre ran away at 16 to "exercise" her ability to use fire. She rebelled and became quite mischevious and uses her powers at whim. She loves to play with fire, and meddling with those heroes is the perfect use of her powers. Under the identity of Trick Candle, Dierdre could do this and more without anyone knowing about her past.

Until she started to tango with Crey Industries. At first they seemed like they were a good, wholesome corporation, with values she believed in and could associate with. Then, slowly, as she secretly moved up the ranks of Crey, she saw beyond the public image and decided that it was time to take matters into her own hands to make her vision of what Crey Industries should be a reality.

I am actually going to enter someone for consideration!

Ms. Belladonna
Laboratory assistant to Dr. Mendel, a scientist working on experiments with recombinant DNA using nanotechnology, Donna Adams was a quiet and withdrawn, but brilliant graduate student. One night while working late in the lab, Donna accessed Dr. Mendel's computer in order to retrieve some experiment data.

What she discovered was Dr. Mendel's work was a sham. Partially funded by the military, who provided the nanomachines, and based otherwise solely upon her own theories and genetic manipulation experiments with plantlife.

Shocked and disillusioned, Donna found herself at a loss. She knew she should confront the doctor, but even her anger wouldn't allow that. Desperately trying to lose herself in her work, she began experimenting with the nanomachines, pressing their limits and forcing them to implant plant DNA into lab rats, giving the simple creatures the ability to manifest thorns and manipulate fauna.

Perhaps it was only a matter of time before fate intervened. Struck by a moment's carelessness, Donna accidentally double-loaded the injection gun with nanomachines. The gun backfired, exploding and delivering a large dose of the machines into her bloodstream, and giving her the ability to manifest thorns, manipulate flora, and exact revenge...

Plant/Thorns Dominator
Height: 5'8"

She could be either ally or foe for the piece, really. I genericized the bio so it wouldn't be strictly CoH-related, but she was working Crey when she had her accident.

As such, she seeks revenge on them, and anyone that stands in her way. So, if Bayani were to get in her way while she sought to do some damage, she'd either try to influence him into helping her with pheromones, or just outright attempt to kill him while wreaking havoc.

(I.e., it's up to you. If Bayani wouldn't be swayed by her wiles and pheromones, then they can just fight or team up, depending on his goals and motivations.)

Actually this was back when Dual Blades was just introduced, and if you fidgeted a bit while you were doing /e taunt with the weapons drawn, you could do the actual Dual Blades Taunt animation where you place one sword down and the other pointed in a challenge.

That gold shimmer on the blade was entirely coincidental. Its the best Screenshot I've ever taken. :-/

My char Kobolt...

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y19...ltcmpltxm8.jpg

Kurt Yuengling's parents were the richest people in Stockholm, Sweden when a strange illness hit Kurt as a young man in fact Kurt would die if something was not done to stop or impede the illness. His parents knew of a technology but it was not in there beloved Nordic country but in the USA and Kurts parents made plans to have Kurt taken there and have this "NEW" technology put into effect immediately. When Kurt got to America, Paragon City to be more specific, and because of ties Kurts father had here and the kind of money his father could throw around Kurt was rushed to a medical facility in Brickstown to be treated with this new "CRYOPROTIEN" a protein (as cryoglobulin) in the blood that can be precipitated by cooling and dissolved it would stop the illness that affected Kurt in theory but Kurt would be the so called first test subject or so he and his parents were led to believe. Soon Kurt was getting better much better the results from the "CRYOPROTIEN" were amazing in fact Kurt under the supervision of the doctors at the facility could see what seemed were, Kurt taking and actually controlling the very moisture in the air and manipulating it to make it "FREEZE".They also discovered that Kurts body temp. was fluctuating and quite disturbing was the body heat he would lose when he activated the "FREEZE" powers, the doctors at the facility seemed no strangers at what to do next and suited him in a "COOLING UNIT" and Kurt immediately felt the warmth return to his body. Kurts' power was getting the attention of some undesireables that also had connections to this medical facility and soon Kurt was contacted by them and propostitioned to do some work for them in the Rogue Isles and if he didnt this "CRYOPROTIEN" would be cut off and his parents killed. Kurt took the "CODENAME" Kobolt a Swedish word meaning cobalt in America, a bluish colored glass that his mother loved to collect, this reminded him of his parents and to him a constant reminder that he would at the first chance get back at these criminals that hold his life and parents hostage!

Airhead may fit into this theme. Airhead's City of Heroes story started in a Nictus hospital, then a Family-run orphanage, before finally going on to work for Crey in their lab rat breeding pens*. He never rose very far in any of these places as he was always so uncorruptably nice. Nonetheless, he was mostly tolerated, since he also seemed to be completely clueless about what was really going on.

* MA arc #1144, but now I better go check it still works

Airhead was never really that stupid. Airhead feels that people can change, and he tries to be the voice of compassion for his misanthropic friends. But being "a tumour in the body of evil" doesn't always get results, so Airhead also works with heroes with a strong sense of right and wrong to combat bigger threats. He would have started working with Bayani as an informant. Chances are, they would be discovered, and Airhead would find himself on the side of good in an all-out war against Crey.

The design has evolved through art commissions. His most recent model pencilled by Brandon McKinney, below, is still to be formally coloured. His powers are mind control and force field, which he uses to create an atmosphere for 'friendly negotiation'.

Friend or foe? You might get a bit of both with the rampaging Clockwork Cadaver (Elec/WP Brute). Created by two of the age's greatest scientific minds, the Clockwork Cadaver would be of interest to Crey for scientific study. Perhaps you free him to create a distraction while investigating a Crey lab (he's extremely volatile), or perhaps Crey manages some limited control over him, using him as disposable muscle, or perhaps you recognize the hero the two villains used to house their creation and decide to look into a possible connection to Crey (although since you're dealing with Crey this angle is likely played out).

When Larissa woke up in Paragon she had no idea where or when she was. The last thing she remembered was Alina's scream of pain and Yung roaring in rage. She had no idea if the rest of them were even alive. She remembered making the decision to destroy the black road but had no memory of what happened. The other Dragons were no where to be found and she had no idea of where a portal might be or if she'd even be able to use it with the destruction of the road. She was also incredibly weak. Almost nothing of her former power remained. While here she learned that the year was 2010 and apparently a critical shift had changed the world once again. "Super heroes" had sprung up. The blending of magic, science, and technology was unlike any she had seen before. What was this new faction that had apparently wrested control from all the others?! She worked hard to regain control of her powers and methodically set out to discover who controlled the worlds destiny. Lately Crey Industries has caught her attention. Their power is growing quickly and an air of mystery surrounds their leader Countess Crey.
