I poke fun at Freedom occasionally, but a lot of the criticism is warranted. If the servers were U.S. cities, Freedom would be New York City. It's incredibly busy, there's always activity no matter what time it is, you meet new people every day, and you're in the center of the action. On the other hand, it's crowded, the people are rude, and it's hard to form close relationships because people get lost in the shuffle.

Virtue is like Los Angeles. Still pretty big, but a lot more relaxed, not quite as crowded, and a lot more accepting. The people are friendly, and you get all the perks of living in a big city. On the other hand, the people there have a reputation for being weird, fruity, whiny know-it-alls, and housing is a nightmare.

So don't feel bad because people are taking jabs at Freedom. When people poke fun at Virtue, I just laugh because their complaints remind me why I actually enjoy being there. People always attack the top dogs--consider it a compliment of sorts.

This is the single best metaphor I've ever seen used on these forums.

Yes - in the Going Rogue expansion, Hero and Villain characters will become immersed in the new parallel universe known as Praetoria, which is governed by Tyrant, the evil incarnation of the game’s main protagonist, Statesman. As gamers search for Tyrant and the rest of his Praetorian guard, implacable foes and fierce resistance will arise to face them from all sides, causing Heroes and Villains alike to question their loyalties.

City of Heroes Going Rogue will introduce a new alignment system that helps players explore the shades of gray that lie between good and evil. For the first time, Hero characters can become Villains and vice versa, enabling Hero archetypes to cross over to the Rogue Isles and Villain archetypes to experience Paragon City. Clearly marked missions, in addition to behaviors and decisions made by the player, will move a Hero’s or Villain’s moral compass, which could eventually change the Hero’s or Villain’s alignment. Going Rogue will also introduce two primary new fictional characters representative of this alignment shift in the game’s lore: Maelstrom, a pistol-wielding Hero gone rogue, and Desdemona, a demon-summoning Villain who has been redeemed.

BS aside, you're still a big fat liar.

Actually, I've spent a great deal of time both in New York and in Los Angeles. I can tell you that despite the general descriptions I gave (and the associated stereotypes people have of those cities), I loved every minute of it--partly *because* of the negative parts of living there. It made it seem more real, gave it a certain spice you couldn't find in a small town. It's true that New York doesn't always fit its stereotype, but it often does, and quite frankly, that's one of the things I like about it.

When I read Westley's response at the top of this thread I chuckled because I knew the spirit that was intended by his response after years of reading his threads.

I think the problem lies in that someone who doesn't have a lot of background experience with the forums would take it to heart not knowing that some responses to questions comes with a lot of "tongue meet cheek".

I have been with Protector since day one and have enjoyed the server immensely. I have found playing fresh again since joining several channels like Protector Vigilance and Jello Shooters. I know that all I have to do is pop on and request help or just shoot the breeze, as it were, and fun will be had.

The community has changed greatly and I believe has become more tight nit. Hence why spamming broadcasting for team doesn't quite work anymore for instant teaming.

eh, I hear stuff like that all the time from people who don't actually know the city. Been hearing it for years. I pay it no mind.

Firstly, you made a statement you knew at the time to be false. That's the DEFINITION of lying. Secondly, if you really believe that last line, about truth always winning on the internet, you're way out of touch with reality.

Yeah, I knew he was goofing around too. But I also knew the OP would NOT understand that.

After our first night of play I came back to the forums and saw this thread has grown. I apologize to all of you for any problem it may have started and it certainly wasn't meant to do so. I wanted everyone to know that I did not take Westley's response as serious to begin with. I'm no spring chicken when it comes to these games and message boards. At the same time I was very thankful to the folks who responded with the facts and we did start our first group on Freedom.

We are playing brand new heroes on Freedom and will be starting villains on Virtue. I still have characters on my account as well. Our first night back we had a lot of fun! I'm not sure my son likes Martial Arts though. He might start something else. I liked seeing costume contests still going on in the city. There were supergroup invites, there were group invites and tells. All in all, I was happy to see the game is striving and I didn't waste our money. Looks like we will be playing for a while.

An important thing to note is while some servers queue up with a higher load it is actually a hero side load not a villain side load. Ever since server transfers became available I noticed a drop in Champion's villains and with the current free server transfers through the end of the month it is possible some other red sides have seen a decrease.

I would suggest people check out the servers/factions at the time they are likely to play and see if it meets their needs.

Cold, you still ahve a few days to use free server transfer tokens too. If you decide you don't want to start fresh you can move some of your old characters to larger servers that what you may have been on.

I moved all my 50s I am never gonna play ever again to Freedom... To clear up massive space on Virtue for when GR comes out.

It took days to respec all of those characters 2 and 3 times >.> sometimes 4 times to take all their IOs out. /sigh and then sellem or stick them in my new improved ultra base... and then move them around.

I need to learn to not make characters I wont play after they hit 50.

I used my tokens to transfer all my "important" characters off of Freedom and Virtue... then deleted the rest on those two servers. Thanks for the present devs!
