Best Teams Ever
Positron TF: A Scrapper, a Blaster, and a Controller
(my second choice would be a Tanker, a Blaster, and a Defender)
A small fast team of damage, damage, and more damage.
"Goodbye, Jean-Luc. I'm gonna miss you... you had such potential. But then again, all good things must come to an end..." -- Q
STF:
Invul/SS Tanker - The baddest tanks I've known ingame have all been Invul Tankers
Rad/Rad Def - Two words, De Buff
Earth/Kin Controller - These toons can single-handedly turn a bad situation into "under control"
Fire/Eng Blaster - BOOM POW THOOM
Ice/Ice Blaster - They hit hard, slow the enemy, can hold enemies, and bring Blizzard too, duh
FF/Dark Def - Buff us, debuff their Acc... nice
Psi or Rad Blaster - More ranged damage is always good on an STF
Numina:
Invul or WP Tanker - See above
Broadsword/WP Scrapper - Great single target punishment
Ice/Ice Blaster - See above
Rad/Rad Def - uh, see above
Earth or Fire/Kin Controller - While not my first choice, fire Controllers are quite impressive too
Positron: I've learned (from good, wise friends) a small team of $%& kickers can rock this TF.
Regen or WP Scrapper
Fire/Eng Blaster
Ice/Ice Blaster
8x Sonic/(Kin or Rad) defender.
Watch everything melt.
For the STF:
I'd go with the classic...
1 Damage Resistance Based Tanker (w/ Taunt)
2 Radiation Emissions
1 Kinetic
2 Cold Domination/Force Field
2 Blasters
For Numina:
It's more about the players/coordination than team build, but let's go with...
1 Tanker
4 Blaster/Scrapper
3 Buff/Debuff
For Posi/Synapse:
You get a much bigger bang for your buck with defense...
8 man version (with these a lot of speed runs are done with less on the team):
2 Cold Domination/Force Field
1 Kinetic with SB available during the TF
5 Blasters
With that said, it is still important to have players who know what they're doing, particularly with the more technical TF/SFs.
If somebody you're arguing with goes off the deep end, don't follow.
Just something fun I thought up, with consideration given to both Going Rogue and not repeating AT types.
*/* Tanker
Illusion/Thermal Controller
Plant/Psi/Mako Dominator
Fire/Storm Corruptor
Thug/Force/Mace Mastermind
Spine/Fire Scrapper
Kin/Sonic Defender
Bane Spider
I couldn't think of a Tanker Primary/Secondary that would feed on anything else already present. Dark/Dark with some Knockback protection maybe (possibly as simple as ID from the Kin)? Maybe something high in single target damage for AVs? I dunno.
Tanker gets aggro. The Bane, Dominator, and Mace Mastery Mastermind Immobilize and Root the entire group to all hell and back. The Scrapper does some AOE magic while the Corruptor and Mako Mastery Dominator drop damage speced Tornadoes. Everything else is pretty much what you'd expect.
STF: I'd go for a "Lock It Down" strategy:
1 Tank - Hard to argue with Inv/SS. With a Kin on board, Stone/Fire (good PBAoE) alternate.
1 Defender - Kin/Ice. Kinetics, 2 holds, and good single target damage.
2 Controllers - Earth/Rad (arguably tops in raw control ability) and an Illusion/Rad (double rad, extra crew) or another Earth/Rad
3 Blasters - 2xIce/* for Blizzard, great damage, and 2 holds apiece; and a Fire/Erg (damage machine)
1 Scrapper - Elec/*. Electric is a nasty scrapper set. Running with a Kin troller and FS they rack up ridiculous damage.
- If you can hold it, you can kill it. If you swap out another E/Rad for the I/Rad, that's potentially fourteen holds on 8 toons. Loaded down with Lockdown +2's, Devastation xHolds, Grav Anchors in the Immobs on the Trollers? "Oh look another mob that's....not moving." "Oh look an AV...that isn't moving." While it may be a slower moving TF, there's no scenario I can imagine that would be a defeat for that team.
Numina: Speed run. Let's face it; not the most difficult of the TF's. The only major pain in the *** is the kill missions. Maximize your damage output and rampage. I'd do a fun theme for it maybe. Call it, "Fire In The Hole."
-Inv/Fire or WP/Fire
-Blastersx3 Fire/Erg (Fireball/Fireball/Fireball;RoFire/RoFire/RoFire; Inferno/Inferno/Inferno - That's just sick.)
-Controllersx2 Fire/Kin
-Rad/Rad Defender
-Assorted Fire Scrapper
Posi: Keep it small.
-1 Scrapper/Tank
-2 Blasters
-If a 4th player, Rad Def/Troller
For the record, I think any decent team that takes it slowly and plays well can succeed. I don't think, beyond making sure that you have some sort of buff/debuffage, there's a magic combo for TF success. I've made a Master RSF run with a Corruptor that only had SO's and needed an overhaul, and watched what should have been a perfect ITF (Stone Tank, Kin, decent blasters) go tits-up due to morons (the only players in the entire game I've ever one-starred were on that doozy). YMMV.
After putting some thought into this, I have to say that I don't really have a "perfect" team. Since, for me, it's all about being with people I enjoy and having fun, I'd take a less than perfect team composed of friends over a 100% perfect team. My prefered blaster is the one my friend is playing...
Having said that...
For Posi, small team of mostly damage. 3-4 players is the max I'd prefer, and at least 2-3 of those should be scrapper/blasters.
For STF, damage is much less important than debuff, and I could almost go with a scrapper/blasterless team (except that I'd probably be playing a scrapper or a blaster - c'mon, it's me). Heavy on the debuff, some good solid buff, and a good tank is nearly essential.
For any other TF - a tank is good to have, but not necessary. for a full team, I'd like a tank, a couple damage dealers, and fill out with trollers/fenders.
I'm not nearly as expert at the red side TFs, so I'll just say that I probably wouldn't even run an RSF on my own, I run screaming from the BSF, and for any others, I'd go one brute, no more than one stalker, no more than on MM and as many VEATS/CORRs as want to come along. If there's room, a dom is welcome.
My old 55 minute posi team:
Fire/em blaster
Fire/mm blaster
Kin/Son defender
too bad two of those three toons drivers are retired now
lot of good guys gone.... though plenty still remain.
I have several names on my global list that I KNOW will never be lit up again, but I just can't bring myself to remove them.
Well maybe not the best teams ever. . .But a few that I might like to see. . .
An all Trick Arrow - Manticore run. . .Actually anything that does not feature Clockwork would be fine.
3 Peacebrings + 4 Warshades + 1 RastafariMan = fun???
I do wish the Sushi club was still around. . . It would be fun to run on an all Kheldian team.
Most of my fast Posi teams were Controller/Defender mix. I think the fastest one I ever did was a full team in 1:15 with 3 defenders, Kin/Sonic, Ice/Sonic, Ice/Sonic; 2 Controllers, Fire/Kin, Earth/Rad, two blasters, and a tank. We tore through the whole thing at breakneck speed.
The best STF team was the very first Master run on Protector with Rasta, Sooner, Trick, and a few others whose names escape me offhand. While not necessarily fast, it was memorable in that everyone knew what to do and when to do it. Help me out here, who else was on it? I'm not at home to look at the screenshot.
Tech Support Rule #1 - They will lie to you. Usually intentionally.
My best posi team: Two damage dealers (blaster/scrapper) and my Ice/FF controller ftw. Ice slick is great on Posi.
Triumphant Defenders Forever
Psylenz FF/Psi, ArticQuark Storm/Rad, Symon BarSisyphus Bots/psn, Max VanSydow Thugs/Dk, Cyclone Symon Bots/stm, Blue Loki Ice/Cd, Widow 46526
HelinCarnate:OMG it is so terrible. I have the option to take 3 more powers but no additional slots. Boo F'ing hoo.
For me, I'd have to say that the best team ever is the one on TfT, 8 Protectorites, and nothing but good times.
If you could build your dream team, what ATs would you have on it and why?
What sets would you take to literally mow down the enemies?
For the purposes of this question, let's assume that you're running the STF,
Numina, and a low level TF - let's say Posi or Synapse. I know some people will have the team make up be different depending on what TF you're running due to enemies faced, so let's see what you think! If you're really in the mood to be creative and verbose, show the dream team for all the TFs.
You can go even further and break it down into what a dream team for a speed run would look like, or a clean run [no deaths](sometimes, they're both!).
I'm not talking about specific characters, just ATs, so let's assume every AT is staffed by a good player.
I'm really curious to see what you all come up with!
