How did you meet your significant other

A few days ago was talking to a couple of freinds on how we met our wife/husband/girlfriend/boyfreind and it was pretty interesting topic so I figured I'd start a thread just about that. Champion is a pretty tight knit server and figured why not so I'll kick it off....

Ima Mankiller and I first met in highschool, sometime late in the 10th grade. She had just moved from another state and we both had algebra class together. She sat behind in the very last seat in the row. Well one day we were taking a quiz and I realized that she was copying the answers on my paper. So I changed some of the answers on my paper with pencil and when it was close to turn the papers in for grading I switched them back to the correct answers. The next day we got our papers back and of course sitting in front of her I got to see her grade first, obviously which was lower than mine. After I gave her paper I could here her complaing about how she had such a low score, I sat there and lmao while she was back there stewing. Finally she asked what I got on my paper and when she found what I had on mine she replied with a few cuss words and asked how? That's where I caught her and told her i saw her looking at my paper the day prior. Since that day we were freinds for the rest of the school year and up to late in our junior year. We started dating in our senior year in highschool and married soon after graduating, been married ever since going on 15 years this July.

I'm so glad you posted this. I wanted to show Mo. That is the BEST *How I Met Your Mother* story so far. I'm going to tell mine.. you already know since I was one of the friends talking with you.

I started working at a company that was contracted to assist General Motors Customers. There was a 2 month long training class. After training we were placed with a live call training team. One of the leaders came in and I looked at him. He looked...intimidating. And not very nice. I turned to my friend Melinda and said, "I hope he's not our Boss."

Turned out he was. Mel and I sat near each other for weeks in this class. Mo was very nice and helpful and he truly wanted everyone to succeed. I'd listen to him talk to the other teammates and he never was rude or anything. He was a nice guy.

My birthday came and I was going to have a big Shebang at this pub down the road. I invited 30 ppl, got the bar to push 3 tables together near the band, everything. 3 ppl showed up. My 2 friends Mike and George...and Mo. Mo and I became so absorbed in our convo I have no idea to this day when Mike and George left. We talked about sexual harassment in the workplace and that legally if someone is offended by a dirty joke they overhear someone say to someone else, they can file a sexual harassment charge with HR. Or if one person witnesses another person kiss their significant other on the cheek. At this point he touched the side of my face and kissed my left cheek. All I heard after that was BLAH BLAH BLAH cause I was thinkin "OMG he KISSED ME!" We have been together ever since and we have 4 kids to prove it

LOL I cant believe you told them I cheated lol. My kids love that story cause they get to go "ha ha mom was failing algebra" lol. It was the only subjest i had any trouble with, straight A's other than that lol just never got how you mix letters and numbers and the letter is always changing.

There was alot more to the story but I'd say Steel got the "short version" right lol. We starting talking because he caught me cheating off his paper lol. That was in tenth grade, we became best friends fast and even dated other ppl.

About a year later it just kinda happened. Out of no where we went from complaining about our current relationships to the next thing we knew we were making out. Was so weird and we didnt talk for a few days after. We finally talked and realized everything we were looking for in someone else was right there in front of us the whole time.

15 years, 4 kids, 2 minivans and a multitude of pets later, he is still the hottest man on the planet to me and we are truly tag team partners in everythig we do

Awww AngieB, your story is so sweet! (place heart emoticon here lol) Funny how first impressions are so often wrong.

Hot or Not. We've been together for almost 4 years and Married for almost 5 months

On a band's message board. Elizabeth and I had both been members of the message board for years. We started talking one night, we had both recently broken up with significant others, and we consoled one another. We kept in communication for some time. We'd both come to the realization we had feelings for one another. It was hard to do anything about it, since I was in Ontario, and she was in Philly.

A few months, and a few failed flings later, we both realized how much we cared for one another, and I booked a flight to Philly. As soon as I saw her in person, I knew she was the one I was meant to marry. We maintained a long distance relationship with a few visits between us for less than a year, and we were married in Pennsylvania in November of 2004.

Thank you, Champion.

My then not wife and I worked in the same department but with different projects/assignments. She was also married. We had a mutual friend (but didnt know) that I started playing CCGs with over the lunch hour and after work sometimes. She wasn't much of a CCG'er but liked to play DnD, but she played CCGs with us at lunch anyways. So I got to know her a little that way.

Then one day while we are playing cards after hours, she drops the bomb that she filed for divorce and booted her now ex out. One of those akward moments. (He too was a gamer, tho more of a srs min-maxer and not relaxed like me.) Anyways, about 3 weeks later after work she calls me up and wants to come over to my apartment to talk. Knowing about her divorce, I say sure. My brother and father were on thier way up to a football game and I said they could crash at my place to save on hotel costs, so I know she can only stay for a few hours before they arrive. So I quick clean up the bachelor pad as best I could in the 10 mins it takes her to get to my place. We chat and talk for a while, and a little while more, and the time files, then my dad and bro show up and she gets the hint, we say our good byes and she leaves. I get a weekend full of "Who was that?" etc. etc. Something I wanted to avoid as really she was just a co-worker going through a divorce at this point.

So we continue to play cards together and are in the same DnD group for a while before the inevitable question is asked by her..."Do you want to see a movie?" Her grand father and mine were WW2 vets so we go see "Saving Private Ryan". Great first date movie. >.> But we both loved it. Later that fall she decides to come see me play hockey and wants to learn how to skate. So off to the mall where there is a public rink and I start teaching her (on a Sunday). Monday morning, literally less than 24 hours later, pictures are circulating in the office of me holding her hand on the ice. The dept secretary was at the mall, saw us and took pictures and had them developed. We were the talk of the office for quite a while until she left for a different department (partially to squeltch all the chatter). We slowly did more stuff together, moved in together in April, engaged in June. The rest is history.

Side story :
We are almost 9 years apart in age. But I had her pegged about 4-5 years too low in age, and she pegged me about 4-5 years too high. We didn't realize the age difference until much much later.. like after we were engaged. Didn't matter, just one of those eye opening things. I was stalked by a "cougar" =)

You must be old as dirt. I thought ASL was always the first thing after "hiya" these days. :-)

Anyways I think what Silas probably found weird is the same thing I did. I would think most couples would have talked about any and everything on this great green earth before going to the next step of engagement. Age just seems like something that would have been convered by then. Apparently not. :-)

I guess I'm just a huge prude for thinking age is a fairly basic thing to know about someone, even if it doesn't matter too much in the grand scheme of things.

Who knew.

I met my hubby at band camp.

No, seriously.

Well, I moved out at a pretty young age--I was 15. A year or so later I moved from the suburbs into the city and scored myself a passable little apartment. A small building, inhabited mainly by the young (and constantly smelling like a Grateful Dead concert).
Right under me was a young lady who had also moved out young. We got to be pretty good friends while I was living there, although I certainly didn't approve of the sad excuse for a man she spent her time with.

Flash forward a few years.

I'm strolling past a local park with a buddy of mine, feasting our eyes on the young lady sashaying in front of us. "Hey", I said to him, "That girl's got curves like the freakin' moon! Wow. She's gonna be the mother of my kids!"
She turned around and, of course, it was my neighbor, who had overheard my remark.
Didn't see her for about a year after that due to moving about.

One fine day, I'd come out of a relationship with a nutjob of epic proportions. I'd learned a lot about what I *didn't* want in a woman, which made narrowing down the search a lot easier.
Out of the blue, I ran into this lovely young lady, formerly my neighbor. We got to talking and it came out that we'd both had a thing for the other for a good long while now. One thing led to another and now she's my wife, favorite game-mate, best friend and the reason I get out of bed in the morning (and also the reason I get right back in at night!).

And of course, as I prophesied, mother o' my offspring.

I lucked into the best woman ever to grace the face of this planet (no offense to the other ladies here). She's smart, incredibly tough (she's taken down more men with her right hook than Ali), fiercely devoted and just stunning. I don't deserve her--I've yet to meet the man who does--but I thank the powers-that-be daily for her presence in my life.

I want to hear the Meow & Ace story. brings a tear to my eye. Makes me happy to be a Championite!

Blast from the past (via PDF, it's 2 saved web pages, safe)

Me and my wife -Meowtch in the game- very unexpectedly met via this silly little pixel hero world, waayy back in 05, and spent just about a year of in depth conversations and very upfront information sharing, before we met, and some months later got married.

I'll let my wife's original post on the happy topic fill in the rest (for any interested):

Hello everyone! We wanted to share something...
#5632127 - 05/28/06 11:32 AM

Anyone who's been wondering about what AceMace or Meowtch have been up to...well I'm finally going to spill the beans...

We had been very interested in each other for some time and then decided to quit the game together to spend that time with one another. Yes, over the internet to start as he's in Florida and I'm in New Jersey but that hasn't stopped us from enjoying one another--we've been reading (Angels & Demons, DaVinci Code & The Broker), watching movies, playing online card games & talking and talking and talking, of course!

Brett has been spending his time working on his property (beautification project) as well as the addition and getting it all ready...oh and his RL job too...

After my company downsized I started working in the Hotel/Casino Industry in Atlantic City again, leaving the world of claims behind...and making moving plans...

We've met in person and have been spending all of our spare time together-via the wonderful world of electronics for now-and are ready to let everyone in on our secret, well anyone who may be interested in knowing what we've been up to!

He will be headed up my way in mid-July to help move me down to Florida and we plan on being married in early August!!!! (Titano...so right you were, so very right...)

He's going to attempt to re-activate his account to pop in and say hello to everyone but we wanted to share this with all of you no matter what...we may not be playing anymore but we'll never forget the time spent in-game with wonderful people!!

For any of you who spent time with us and had a feeling...or even just blatantly saw right through our secrecy (and I know you all know who you are)...we wanted to say thank you for your discretion. It enabled us to spend time together in-game until we were ready to take it out-of-game without worrying about answering questions or people making judgments.

The ceremony is going to be very small, just immediate family, but we'll post some pics afterwards for everyone who's interested to see!

**Hugs for the Champion community**
Us.

-edit, looking at the pdf reminds me why Champion became known as the 'community server' back in the day. =T

You two are pretty darn cute together.

(Although now I feel compelled to say you're both sooooo much OLDER than I thought you were, lol. And you guys can't be that much older than I am, for the record.)

Best wishes for a long and happy relationship. Nice people belong together. : )

A mutual friend set us up on a blind date on new years eve 1986. We've been together ever since. 23 years later we're still very happy and love spending lots of time together. Even now, playing CoH and watching TV, we love having each other in the room. Something warm and cozy knowing that we're here for each other.
