Fire Blaster with Flight

Does anyone know if/how this is possible? To make a Flying Fire Blaster?

Forgive my ignorance (lol n00b) I cannot find where to add the flying skill!

At level 6 you have the option to open power pools which flight is in one of them. So at either level6,8,10 or 12 take hover or air supiority then at level 14 you will have the option to take fly.

Oh brilliant thanks very much! Which is best, Hover or Air supiority?

Hover is probably better than fly for actual combat, using less endurance and adding some defense. Air Superiority is a good power for melee as it knocks back your opponents, but flying blaster tend to avoid melee.

I had Air Superiority on my first blaster and it was a disaster. I had to respec for hover, I would take Hover, gives you a small defense bonus and keeps things at range so you dont get smashed in the face.

i found Hover to be the best. I just need to find out whether it is possible to set up a /bind or /macro so that i can circle the battle while hovering or flying and blast away at enemies.

Any ideas or suggestion?

OK well I got to level six, been chasing baddies all over town and frying 'em to a crisp! Am I right in assuming that even though I have taken Hover, I still cannot fly until level 14?

Correct.

BTW, you don't mention if you're a Fire Blast/x Blaster or an x/Fire Manipulation Blaster.

If you have Fire Manipulation, I'd strongly urge you away from Flight, and towards Combat Jumping and Super Speed. Burn and Hot Feet cannot be used while flying, and FSC seems to have much smaller radius if you're hovering at all.

My hunch is that he's a Fire/Fire Blaster...

Hover is "slow fly" mode. (it used to be very, very slow fly mode.) So you can go- I don't know the current number- maybe 20 MPH in Hover mode.

Fly, the level 14 power, lets you go 60 MPH or so.

As a slight tangent, all four main travel powers have their balance plusses and minuses:
Fly is relatively slow, but allows you to hit the "R" key and chat or whatever while you're safely getting to your destination.
Superspeed is very fast as long as you don't run into a cliff, a building, or any significant vertical obstructions. [With a lot of practice, you can get around most of those obstructions... but you'll spend a lot of time learning.] It also has built-in stealth so you don't get shot on your way past, which is usable ALL BY ITSELF.
Superjump is almost as fast as superspeed, allows you to handle almost all vertical obstructions, but when you are new, you WILL sometimes land in a big bunch of high-powered enemies and they WILL kill you. Also, it requires either a clever keyboard workaround or leaving your finger on the "jump" key, so it's a constant-attention travel power.
Teleport is the fastest over significant distances, with all the vertical and horizontal control you could want. It is also tremendously inconvenient and any lag problems will result in you plummeting out of the sky like Wile E. Coyote.

In a nonbalance sense, I have a friend who used to keep a subscription just so he could fly around. I'm a little surprised he never built an ultralight in real life. Some travel powers just FEEL great to some people. (I'm a flier on nearly every character. . . but superspeed does feel amazingly fast; you're going 80 MPH at an altitude of six inches, and it feels it.)

Edited to add: Welcome to Paragon City!

/bind mbutton "powexecname hover$$powexecname fly"

that will switch you from fly to hover and back by clicking your mouse wheel. I like to bind my travel powers to the mouse say I can control speed and movement with one hand.

/bind numpadenter "powexecname hover"

that sets the enter key on my number pad to toggle on or off hover. I can reach that key easily with the thumb on my mouse hand if I want to drop down to ground level.

My first blaster was an Ice/Fire and I found Burn and Hot Feet useless. I know Fire Manip is great for melee but I was never really in melee range enough to justify those 2 powers, I have Fire Sword and FSC both as "Oh crap" powers and part of an AoEish chain. I use build up and aim, Ice storm, jump in and FCS, Frost breath if they are grouped, if not Fire Sword and blasts until everything is dead.

Yeah you're correct in betting I am Fire/Fire all the way. I always like Pyro from X-Men and a big fan of female Supers...so I created...

Ignition Girl

I took Hover. The Moves/Powers you suggested seem not my character style, I have a lot of ranged and high damage firebalss and I have flare at a ridiculous Damage and Recharge that it is my MAIN weapon.

Well, thankyou guys you have been a great help. I think I would of like the Flight just for flying around but having played a grounded Blaster for a few hours, I am glad I picked hover....can't wait for lvl 14!!

I struggled with keeping my Fire/Fire/Fire Blaster effective while using Hover/Flight, but there's always the argument for fun over DPS (this is a game, after all).

An excellent discussion about Fire Manipulation can be found here: http://boards.cityofheroes.com/showthread.php?t=190067

If you really want to fly and be a fire god and unleash the DPS madness, I'd suggest trying out a Fire/MM/Fire instead.

It sounds like you're using the generic (Aim), but then only taking two out of your Secondary and reserving them both as panic buttons?

While it's totally your choice to take and enjoy an AT that is largely ignoring either its Primary or Secondary, that's not the way I play. I'd rather play an AT where I used and enjoyed both.

Well, Ignition Girl is going well, but I now need some friends. I cannot get through the park to the East in order to speak with the Leiutenant. That park is waaaaaaay dangerous and I don't even want to contemplate going through there alone again, nightmare!

I have some people downloading as we speak to assist....

...really enjoying this game, can't believe I only just discovered it!

you could always just hover above everything and drop down on the contact. may take a while but it will be safe.

That's the weird thing...I took Hover and am now level 7 approaching 8, but I can't for the life of me see it in my Powers list or work out how to do it?

I've stared and stared at every option I can find but still can't work out how to actually hover!

Find the Powers tab, its right next to the enhancement and inspiration tabs. When you pull it up you'll find Hover and the flight pool listed in the right most column, all the way at the bottom.

Really? It should be a yellow icon with a shield on it. Are you certain you really did take it, and didn't choose it and then accidentally overwrite it with a different power during level up? Once you choose it from the Flight pool, you do have to confirm that yes, you want that power, and not one of your primaries or secondaries - after you choose a pool power, it takes you back to the power selection screen, where you can either confirm the power choice or choose a different power. I know that I have on occasion not paid attention and chosen a different power by mistake.

FAIL.......... Oh well, one re-spec comin' up...and I was so close

I think what you might have done is something like this...

When you went to select hover you did click on it but, when the screen went back to the main powers menu, you might have clicked something else before finishing.

I've done that a few times.

All is not lost. Just select hover at lv 8 and click on nothing else other than "finish" It should drop into your power tray in an available slot.

Wait - don't worry about a respec just yet.

You can always take Hover next time you get a power choice.

And honestly, at any level under 10, you should probably just delete the character and reroll her. You are still in the learning stages - and your friends are just starting out new characters, so rerolling and levelling with them would be fun, wouldn't it? It won't take you long to get back to where you are now - and your friends will be there right beside you!

You can take fly on a fire/fire blaster and be wildly effective; I certainly am. Since you're playing two powersets with no mitigation, Hover will add a lot to your survivability, and hovering into melee (vs. running or jumping in) has the advantage that you are more likely to hit the entire spawn with small-radius attacks like Fire Sword Circle, since you don't get bumped around or crowded out by melee characters, and you are guaranteed not to overshoot.

Whoever said that Hot Feet can't be used while flying is wrong. You can't activate it while flying, but you can activate it on the ground, fly, and it will work as normal. Since burn is useless, you lose very little by going with fly.

Fire/ is also one of the primaries strong enough that it needs very little support from the secondary beyond Build Up, so you are not forced to play in melee, either.

It's not hard to make high-performance builds for most concepts, except for some extreme cases that involve skipping multiple key powers.
