Is the job of a channel operator to help keep the channel civil, and focused on the job at hand, or to find justifications to silence or kick members ? ...and the "rules are rules" arguement doesnt really wash with me, as I have seen how some get a pass while others get silenced or kicked. He is welcome to moderate his channel as he might see fit, and if others dont like it, they are welcome to leave that channel. Just quit trying to justify their repressive cronyism. I know what I saw going on in the channel, and my attitude towards it isnt based on my friendships, or sg affiliation, or some secret plot to rule the server. I oppose bullying, censorship and oppression, and if that makes me uncool, than so be it. Hang out with the Thought Police all you want to, I will keep my friends far far away from them.

You might be on to something if the channel were the only means of global communication in the game, but guess what? There's as many channels as you'd like to make, and you can go share your knitting secrets and talk about the weather and if Dirk will ever love Janet again after that affair all you want in one of those channels.
This isn't about being cool or uncool. It's about how much stupidity one can tolerate. The people that got booted exhibited an uncanny amount of it, and were justly rewarded. The rest of us have learned to adapt and move on.

Lose --> Did not win, misplace, cannot find, subtract.

Should anyone have to fear the man with the sledgehammer power is exactly my point. Why should you have to have the "fear" of being careful what you say, or who you say it to, because you might say or do the wrong thing and upset the wrong person? THAT to me is not a pleasent enviroment to be in.

Hey people, next time you wanna start an topic that may not be approved by CA, see if he is even in the channel. You can get away with conversations like that because CA is the only op who objects to subject matter not related to badging, monsters and TFs. BMT is what it is. I find it less stressful to follow the rules and if I have something to say, I say it elsewhere.

I've silenced my friends, along with strangers. Fanged, Horus, GP, Cherry, etc. These are all people that I associate with on a regular basis and have been moderated by me at some point in time. No one gets a free pass. I've even told other moderators in the channel to take conversations elsewhere. This is mostly done via tells, thus you aren't privy to such actions.
I'm also not there all the time, so I can't moderate everythin'. I also don't pay attention to the channel one hundred percent o' the time, as I do actually play the game. So some chatter and non-game related conversations do happen. However, I can't be held responsible for every single thing that happens off-topic. That's an unfair assumption and standard to hold someone to as it's not humanly possible to watch the channel twenty four hours a day, seven days a week.
As always, and I should have mentioned this earlier, if you have a problem with my actions as a moderator, by all means, take it up with Ping. I'm sure he'll be willin' to listen to whatever transgressions happened to you, real or imagined.

The reason for keeping things on point is so things aren't drowned out in the channel. There are over 100 people there at a given time and if 2 people take over the channel to talk about TV then the other 98 plus can't get anything done.
However my point still stand if there isn't anything going on then BMT should be allowed to be social since that is one of the few channels the 100 plus people actually meet.

true story. I was naughty / am naughty all the time.. Ya, it sucks when you get the /tell with him giving the warning.. but, as a person that runs task force tuesdays, i can totally see the need to keep the channel on point as much as possible. As much as a potty mouth that I have i can also see the need to keep it pg13 as much as possible... Im lucky enough to have other channels at my disposal (when i remember to tab away from BMT) to chat in and have more adult conversations and sillyness. It's not like anyone has to be on BMT.. keep BMT in the background, use it for its intended purpose and use the other chats to fill whatever other desires you may have...
As i read earlier on this thread, this really shouldnt be an "us VS them" issue.. BMT was created with a clear purpose and there isnt anything stopping anyone from joining various channels.. Im not sure what the channel limit is, but, speaking for myself, Im on like, jeeze.. a ton.. including my own.
And for the record, when the invites to BMT go out, Cobalt makes it clear from the get go, what the channel is for and to please keep it like that.. and says "any questions?" So it not like there isnt already a warning in place.
Just like when I was i invited to champions united, It was stated what the channels purpose and goals are, and I respect that as much as i do anyone elses... Its kinda like going to someones house... if they have a no shoes policy when you go in, you take them off.. if you dont, and then are asked nicely to take them off, and you dont, dont get all pissy when they force the issue.. its their damn house!

I find this all pretty simple. If you want to talk, go to a different channel. You have up to ten. I have ten and dont use several now. I am a member of both mentioned here and I use both.
Most importantly... I dont get my feelings hurt or undies in a wad if someone says something, silences me, or kicks me from a channel. Waah waah wahh. (If I get kicked from a team for no reason, or an asinine reason, then I just add another to the global ignore list and move on... crap happens, and I dont care.)
Go play the game and have fun however you play it. If you dont want to be in a channel, then dont join it. If you think a channel needs to be moderated in some particular way, then create one and do as you think is the correct way.

I'm grateful to Cobalt and the other mods on that channel for providing a useful venue for finding teams. An unmoderated channel is a great thing in many ways, but it's an ineffective tool for putting together task forces.
