Ok look, I, along with Many many others as so sick and tired of the dictatorship of some of the global chat channels out there.
I will refrain from mentioning any names or chat channels as to avoid this thread getting mod smacked by da Ocho.

A member of P.o.N was silenced today in a global chat channel for asking someone if they had direct tv...

This is a bunch of horse shitz. This is nothing more then a power trip of someone that has some srs envy issues.

Bottom line is this: Screw that channel. If you want a global chat channel that you will NOT be told what, who, or when you can speak, Then give Champions United a try.
Were Pleased to have Nievene, and The Ocho himself in the channel with us. and we are proud to say we have never had even a single incident in this channel ever. No ones ever needed to be silenced, kicked or anything of the kind.

Why? because its a FREE SPEECH CHANNEL. Leave the drama out, and just be yourself. No worries of the Chat police kicking you in the face if your not in their "cool kids club"

Sorry in advance if You think this thread is wrong to be here Ocho, but I did do my best as to not directly attck, or offend anyone directly by mentioning names or even channels. I hope this thread does not disappear, but actually helps those afraid to say something themselves.

I feel sorry for that operator he must have been pick on when he was a little pirate. Like I said before this guys have a major power trip. He show favorite to his close friends letting them say what they want but when a non friend in the channel say something he doesn't like he would silence or kick them.... to some it up... He the first one I would give him a hand-shake at a Hero-Con and BTW more likely I would be at the next Hero-Con...

Heavy handed ops want nothing more than to avoid having their actions exposed to further scrutiny. I am sure we will hear plenty of "you guys suck too" but that doesnt really speak to the matter at hand does it ?

The point is some ops think that players need hand-holding and censorship. As an adult and veteran gamer, I require neither. Keeping silent only allows this censorship to continue. I prefer an open exchange of ideas among players, where they are allowed to express themselves without undue restrictions by a lofty few. I am not saying there should be no rules, but it seems like the operator in question has a history of censoring most while his friends get a total pass. I oppose censorship, and the cool boy rule of the self appointed guardians of authority. Thats why the channel Champions United gets my vote, not because they are the coolest kids on the server, but because all of it members can use the channel as equals without fear of being silenced, kicked, or shouted down for daring to.....chat in a global chat channel. Because all of its members are treated the same regardless of SG affiliations. and because it doesnt matter to the operators if the player is a 1 month veteran, or a 6 year veteran. Rude behaviour isnt tolerated, but use of the channel by everyone is allowed. They dont silence its members for speaking in the channel, or kick members for asking questions about it, that is just a bogus powertrip.

So if you are afraid of different ideas about the game than the ones you already have, and cant handle it when guys have the nerve to tell you something you didnt already know, then please do not join Champion United. But if you would like to have the operators actually help you out, and like to hear about what your in-game peers might think, then join up today. And dont worry, they wont kick you just because you do not agree with them. Or because you are not cool enough to have your opinion count.

Let me begin this by saying I'm not in anyone's "clique". I'm a relative nobody. As a matter of fact, I believe I have 3 people on my Global. I am a member of the channel in question (really, it's no secret), and I have seen several people getting kicked, and getting silenced, and really... I don't see the issue.

You seem to be forgetting that the channel has a purpose. I'm sure you know what purpose it serves, by knowing its title. The operator in question (who, might I add, is not a friend of mine) is tasked with ensuring the channel serves that purpose. It isn't heavy-handedness. It's keeping the channel effective for what it is.

I love, LOVE random banter.. but that's not what the channel is for. That's not why I joined the channel. Personally speaking, I'd probably get annoyed if when advertising a Task Force, or asking if there was a spot on a raid, if I had to wade through comment after comment about television. This is what the operator is trying to avoid.

What you're missing in your quote, Bud... is the first part. Where your SG-mate, and other people had been asked to stop that line of discussion. As I recall, more than once. Others stopped, and they weren't silenced. He wasn't silenced for asking about DirectTV, he was silenced for continuing when asked to take it to Tells.

People are always making reference to this supposed power-trip. What power-trip? People aren't arbitrarily silenced. People are ALWAYS warned to discontinue the off-topic chatter before any action is taken.

I find it interesting that you make mention of a "cool kids club". I have never seen you comment in-channel on anyone being silenced, until it was your SG-mate. I didn't even know it was your SG mate until this post.So, why did it suddenly become a problem when it was someone in YOUR "cool kids club"?

Your above post isn't helping the server. It isn't giving a voice to the voiceless... it's doing nothing but perpetuating the drama that you claim to want to end. You could have just said "Join Champion United. We're a channel without topic restrictions", but instead, you made it an "us vs. them" post.

I'm on both channels and like them both. They have different purposes and thus different rules or lack thereof. I wouldn't give up one for the other.

I'm glad to be on both and consider you all my friends cause I'm like that. Variety is the spice of life, including in global channels with different aims.

However, based entirely on what I, myself, have seen from the operator... I feel it would be uncharacteristic of him to kick you for that reason alone. I would think there's a history of unrest, but that would be speculation. Again, this is based on what I have seen from him for as long as I've been a member.

Though I do feel he was spot-on for silencing Voltaic.

He was asked more than once to take his conversation about a television show to tells, and didn't listen. That's when he got silenced. You opened up your mouth (God knows why you were even in the channel to begin with, since most of your buddies aren't in there either), and action was taken to make sure you didn't derail the channel any more than you already did. You also left out the part where you put a message on the channel recruiting people to come join your channel. That's no different than SG recruiting on the channel, which is also something frowned upon by everyone in the channel (but you, apparantly, but we all know you have no shame when it comes to recruiting practices). Please don't push the martyr act. You're far from it.

Bottom line: You and the person you don't wish to name have a serious hard on for each other, and rather than let it carry on in a channel where the vast majority have no dog in that fight, the bud got nipped (pun intended). You made CU a while ago, so what exactly did you expect by staying in a channel you actively slam at every opportunity?

Someone (I don't remember who) asked who was doing what. I said, in humor, that I was watching the Dr. Who Marathon.

A couple of other people mentioned other marathons, VS asked what channel it was on, I said it was on BBC America.

About then, Cobalt asked us to keep TV stuff out of the channel.

I took responsibility for it, because I didn't know it was verboten.

Then was VS's question (which I answered via tell) that got him silenced.

LoL They keep saying about rules... but I have been around BMT where some peeps was selling stuff IOs and they were kick or silience. I heard several time that there have been off topics in BMT and no operator has done anything. Like I said before i wont join that channel even if they offing free PLs... I can form teams, task forces, and etc by my self or through Champion United...

From what I've read.. Cobs did his job. Chill out. Both channels are fanfrickintabs. Your SG mate was warned. Rules are rules and Cobs follows them to a tee.. Cripes I listen to my warnings most of the time!! I've even been silenced.. so don't be be going mother bear on Cobby's ****.. or I swear I'll send him my Baked Bacon n Beans Recipe..

I'm kinda indifferent to the whole issue. I can see the need to keep things on point when there are over 100 people in the channel and there are people trying to get things done. However I don't think it is as important when nothing is going on at the time. Then again I'm not in charge and the internet is not America so freedom of speech is a privilidge and not a right.

As for the kick I'll say this. Anyone could have seen that kick coming and avoided it if they really wanted to avoid it. Only a crazy person pops their heads up when they know it's whack a mole time and they see a guy standing there with a sledge hammer.
