Help getting to 50
Bravo!
To try to help the OP however...
You should know good sir, that this game is about the journey, not the destination. There is nothing you can do at 50 that you can't do at level 5. With Super Sidekicking, that is even MORE true now than it was when I first started.
Enjoy playing the game itself, playing with your powers, playing with some friends that you meet online.... don't rush to 50. It's really a waste if you ask me.
But if you REALLY want to get to 50 really fast? Form your own full teams. Being on a full team at all times is the FASTEST way to level up in this game. And if you FORM YOUR OWN teams, then you will NEVER be teamless.
I even wrote a guide that can help! Click here.
P.S. Is it bad that every time I hear the phrase "AE Babies" it immediately starts a round in my head of this theme song but with AE Babies instead?
Well, considering that the OP pointed out that he hasn't been rushing his character and thus assuming he's not, in fact, an AE baby, it might be he's tired of the journey and just wants to cross the arbitrary finish line - can't blame him too much for that.
To the OP himself, a few problems - the questions forum isn't the place for this sort of thing. I'd recommend your server's subforum if you want to plan a team. However, I'd suggest simply forming one on the fly. Forcefield is a pretty big draw when it comes to PUGs and simply sending tells to players with their LFT flags up saying "Hi, I'm forming a Lv$level mission team, wanna help? I've got bubbles!" is likely to get you a good-sized team fairly quickly {semi-related: I love SSK!}. As for the missions themselves, there's several options - first is your contact missions. The pro is that they tend to have variety, the cons are that they can send you all over the place and need some work getting their contact numbers. There are also repeatables - the Rikti War Zone comes readily to mind. Borea always gives out missions inside the zone, and with the removal of level requirement, you can take both heroes and villains of any and all levels to said missions. The fact that you can rely on her to give you missions with Rikti, rather than more troublesome groups such as Circle of Thorns or Malta is also a plus.
Enjoy your day please.

The fact that the OP used similar phrases as the AE guy in the cartoon had me choking down some giggles.
And that was just at the title, Nord.
*shakes head*
Okay Norblasts video aside (hich is kind of cute) .. do what some of the other suggest. Form you own teams and run 8 man missions.. hey if the team is strong enough up the difficulty and take on Purples not Yellows. Look for teams advetising in PI that are running AV missions... AVs pay out an amazing amount of XP and with the new exemplar system a team leader isn't afraid to invite anyone since they all get auto leveled to 49 (if the leader is level 50).
Some other ideas you may consider.. Since I don't know what all you have done to date. Check out the Task Forces and trials.. again with the new system for Exemplaring you get full XP even doing the lowest ones and keep powers up to 5 above the maximum level of that task Force.. which means even on a Positron TF you can keep your permanent travel power and Stamina (if that's part of your build). I did the Posi with my Plant/Rad at level 36 and was a level 37 pushing 38 when it was done and without stealth we finished in just over 4 hours. Do all of the big 6 Posi, Synapes, Sister P, Citadel. Manti, and Numina and in addition to gaining quite a few levels you pick up TF Commander Adding to your total HPs. Posi takes a good deal of time even now but quite a few of the others can be completed in 2 hours of less and you also gain a bunch of Merits.
Try the 1st and 2nd Respec.. short (4 Missions), good number of bosses (High XP) and again Merits at the end you can use for whatever. Once you pass 44 you can also do the 3rd respec against the Rikti and even gain some Vanguard Merits as well.
Don't forget the higher TFs.. the ITF and LGTF offer a challenge, merits XP and with all those Bosses, EBS, AVs and the need on a couple missions to defeat 100 or even 300 Cimeroran Traitors the ITF is always a great way to earn influence. Those things seem to form day and night so you can almost always find one somewhere looking for members. Keep in mind people are speed running some of these now so it may cut the XP you gain but there is still the same need to defeat a BUNCH of villains and that means a good deal of XP.
When all else fails, and I personally don't do this often, find a farm. But look for a good farmer that actually expects you to pull your weight and help. Nothing seems more boring to me than sitting at the entrance while a Tank and a couple Fire/Kins circle a 2 block neighborhood crushing everything in sight while I fall asleep. Good farmer do exist.. ones that want you to stick with them and help take out the hordes an 8 man team creates. And these are the places people are going to mine the treasured PURPLE recipes so once your high enough you can either become VERY rich or VERY powerful as the purples drop.
There are a thousand ways to play the game and none of them is wrong it just depends on what you enjoy. Unless I can't find anything else I avoid farming and prefer good AV team. Pounding on the likes of Maurader, Black Swan, and the Tyrant beats running in ircles defeating COT Demons any day as far as I am concerned.
Well that should give you a few idea anyway.. good luck out there and HAVE FUN.. it is a game we ARE supposed to be having fun! lol

Recently I've hit 50 on a new character who spent a lot of time soloing, marketing, and just sort of messing around. It's not that hard, especially if you join some pick-up Task Forces.
The question is not so much "why is there no activity on my server?" as it is, "where is the activity on my server?" Find the global channels on your chosen server and monitor them for Task Force recruiting or other team action.
When the TF is winding down, put player notes on everyone reminding you which ones you liked, even if it's something simple like "TFed," and add them to one of your friends lists if you enjoyed their company. Since I started doing that I have a pretty full plate whenever I log on.

At least someone here is helpful. Thanks; Everyone assumed just because I mentioned a TF that im an AE baby. I'M NOT. I probably gained only 2 levels of the 41 by doing a tf. And if you guys are just going to judge me and be rude like that, I guess the CoH community isn't as friendly as I thought.

This is going to sound like a rude question: Do you keep your force fields on ALL your teammates ALL the time?
If so, you can invite pretty much any blaster or blasters to your team, and can nearly invite YOURSELF to any team with a blaster on it.
If not, you should probably not be playing a Force Fielder. Try something where you won't hate a very important part of your character.

So you think you're a hero, huh.

There were other helpful suggestions besides Quinch's, and other posts that weren't rude. There's not a rude word in my post or Wicked_Wendy's, for example.
If you're just going to judge all of us by the rudeness you read from a few posters, I guess you're making the same mistake you say the community made.

Those farming purple recipes aren't going to want the company, and those seeking levels know that adding tag-alongs slow down the level speed (unless they contribute)
To be completely honest, you will enjoy getting to 50 a lot more on your own than doorsitting. The first time I hit 50 was on my brute, and I was actually startled by the ding. I was having so much fun playing it that I didn't even notice.
Farming will get you to 50 the fastest. It will probably cost inf to get there. If you are deadset on it, pick a populated server and head to Peregrine Island and offer to pay 5-10 mil / run to be on a private farm. You do not want anyone else but the farmer on the team for maximum rewards.
Personally, I think I would give anything to go back in time to the rush I felt on pushing to get my first 50. Even though I have the ability to level myself very quickly, there is something to be said about getting their yourself. Some of my favorite characters to play are the ones that really worked to get to 50. When my brute was leveling to 50, I was constantly getting tells to join my team, because if people saw I was on, they knew I always had a solid team kicking! I do miss those tells

I just haven't been able to bring myself to play lowbies for about 6 months now. I should join a support group.

There's this thing called Lightning Rod/Shield Charge/Fireball. I miss it when I'm not 50. I really need a better name for it. Mass Carnage? Then there's my rad/kin corr with softcapped S/L/E at 50. Saturated fulcrum without worry of death is a beautiful thing to behold.
The fun thing to do at 50 for many is trick out their characters and see just how 'super powered' they can get. Not every build feels incredible right out of the box. Some do.
We have different play styles. I could never imagine rerolling the same bubbler multiple times over and going through the journey like you seem to enjoy.
Triceth LVL 50 Ice/Storm Controller
Ghost Scrapper LVL 50 MA/reflexes Scrapper
Gespin LVL 44 Spine/Regen Scrapper
Treal LVL 41 Emp Defender
Radill LVL 41 Ill/Rad Troller
Westley - And if you FORM YOUR OWN teams (he even provided a link to a helpful guide)
Quinch - I'd suggest simply forming one on the fly.
Wicked Wendy - Form you own teams and run 8 man missions
Sailboat - Find the global channels on your chosen server and monitor them for Task Force recruiting or other team action.
Four different people advising you on the best way to get to level 50 the fastest.

A Task Force is a large-scale story arc in City of Heroes. Each task force has a minimum level requirement and a minimum team size requirement that must be met before the task force can be started. Each task force also has a maximum level associated with it; team members who exceed the maximum automatically exemplar down.
While running a task force, none of the team's other missions are available to them, and normal contacts won't interact with the player. This also means that stores who are contacts (such as Ghost Falcon or Serafina, for example) are unavailable for purchasing Enhancements during a task force. Arena stores, Pocket D, Wentworth's, and Ouroboros are still accessible to purchase (often much needed) inspirations. Once the task force has formed, you must continue to run the task force until you finish it or drop from it. Task force missions can be run over several play sessions; the game allows you to log out without dropping from the task force.
An AE Baby is a player that sits in the Architect Entertainment building in Atlas Park and begs other players to Farm/Powerlevel them thru the player created Mission Architect missions so they can quickly get to level 50.
These players have high level characters yet have no idea where any other city zones are or how to get to them, and they don't understand the most basic ingame terminology.
And if you guys are just going to judge me and be rude like that, I guess the CoH community isn't as friendly as I thought. |
OP just caught me somewhat "unprepared".

- I don't remember seeing anyone coming that close to requesting PL in the "Player Questions" forum or in any other forums (that I'm usually reading) for that matter.
- Another thing that caught my attention was willingless to jump servers for play opportunities.

...And if people think that my original response was rude, then I'm glad I haven't posted link to another video instead. That video, I planned to link to initially, is way more harsh than one I ended up posting.

As far as judgements about community go, OP completely missed the point, unless they think that NordBlast is Entire Community

No, I haven't assumed that OP is AE baby.

As to the rudeness, out of all the posts before the OP returned the second time, yours was the closest thing that could be called rude. I think most of us, aside from the OP saw the humor and took your post as tongue in cheek.
The funny thing about all this is, building a Force Fielder is already REALLY close to getting powerlevelled for me... send tell to 3 blasters on teams, if I don't get an invite play something else.
Once on the team, spend 75% of my time just watching my team win...

Hello heroes! I have been working extra hard on my illusion/forcefield controller the past few days. He is now level 41 ( could be higher by time you read this lol ) and needs help to level up to 50 as quickly as possible. I know that rushing isn't good, but I have been working on strictly this one toon for *quite* a while now , "stopped to smell the roses" , and would like to finish him up. If you are perhaps interested, please leave a response here and I will arrange to meet up with you in game tomorrow asap. ( A full team of 8 to make things go faster would rock ) He can be on any server designated, due to population, since I have server transfer tokens left.
Thanks!
PS- A farm mission/TF would be great, since they give such good exp!
PPS- I will be online most of the day tomorrow, but will have to go as it nears to night to go see christmas show.
