what about instead of deleting they have to go join a sg thats made up of dead heroes like themselves?

like a graveyard shift sg
further thought once they are dead they can only wear zombie/supernatural things and wear white only( or black only)
call it
Undead of Justice or sumtin

as Ood Sigma said....We will sing to you, Doctor. The universe will sing you to your sleep. This song is ending. But the story never ends.

Day 1 report:

We have about seven players with about 14 toons, five of which have died (two of them mine!). Our highest at the moment is level 10. It's amazing what you learn when death is permanent. Most deaths are caused by stupidty. Fer instance:

* Running +1 missions at low level
* Forgetting to turn toggles on, resulting in tanker death
* Using Howling Twilight as an offensive power, then not having it available to rez, and as a result dying while waiting for recharge
* Traveling through the Gulch of the Hollows at low level
* Developing the false sense of security that comes from having two defenders and a controller -- then someone goes afk or DC's and the dynamic totally changes

What an edumacation. I'm having to unlearn big parts of my game.

It's a neat idea, and I hope it succeeds. It's not for me, though.

The only mild objection I have has nothing to do with the concept, it's just over an off-handed statement that permadeath is "truer to the genre." Huh? No one ever stays dead in comic books. You can have an entire issue where everyone looks at the corpse, looks at the corpse going into the coffin, looks at the coffin going into the crematorium, looks at the ashes going into the urn, and the urn going on a mantle place -- and one year later someone will steal the ashes and cull the life-force residue from the ashes, placing it in a clone of the original pre-incinerated body and it will eventually get all the original character's memories back.

Scrapper Jack (SJ/WP Brute), Sky Commando (WP/SJ Tanker), Curveball (Rad/DP Defender), and a bunch more.

Jean Grey is the Pheonix, resurrecting is kind of her thing.

Bucky's the new Captain America.

technicalities...how long do you think before bucky dies and real cap comes back?

My thoughts exactly. It's not that I don't think non-RP guilds are worth joining, I just think that I'd rather do something this painful (And fun) with a complete RP guild. Restrictions always make for the best RP.

Color me curious, though. This is actually a very neat sounding idea. Stick to your guns, mate!

I would say this though... Mapserve and lag spikes happen. Perhaps adjust it so that if such things occur, you'd allow for a time warp to occur. Everyone Rez and restart the fight. And perhaps make a system that allows someone the right to earn a 'hospital visit'. Like... I don't know. Make a merit system that says "You do this enough times, you get one use of a hospital visit if the SG leader thinks it's reasonable."

But really, that's just an opinion- my two cents. This is your system and it does sound rather interesting.

Not soon enough. I always disliked Bucky.

Ok, now I'm done threadjacking.

We do RP somewhat in Local, using Team and SG for OOC stuff which makes for a nice separation. Lets people who want to RP, RP, and doesn't force others to hunt through the chat box looking for (())'s or OOC:'s. Then again, my 'Indiana Jones'-esque female scrapper died at level 3 and I'm now running a recently thawed out viking who doesn't speak english and is also more than a little slow, so RP is a bit quirky at the moment.

Super-SK works for and against a group like this. Since at any given moment you can have a wide range of characters, it lets them all team up. On the other hand, as my level 3 scrapper found out, taking a lowbie against much higher level bosses, even SK'd, can be rough. That said, my second character, a SD/BA tanker did much better. Made it to 6 or 7 with little trouble before logging for the night.

It was also interesting how the team dynamic changed over time. When I first logged on, it was my scrapper and a bunch of controllers/defenders. By the time we finished up, we had two tankers, a blaster and scrapper going. Most of the problems should work themselves out as we level though and get new powers and better inspirations.

Only suggestion if you do think of joining up, keep a few names/costumes/concepts in the back of your mind in case you do go down. Death, deletion, and rerolling becomes much less painful that way.

I would like to issue a plea on behalf of Paragon's diminutive protectors, please watch where you step. We're four feet tall in a six foot tall world, we've been cast adrift in a sea of butts. -Pillbug

This is quite interesting. I like the concept and really hope it works out.
I will be curious as to how high of level the characters get.

This is cool, except one problem:

Being "defeated" does not equal death in every case.

Not every villain group will ruthlessly slaughter the people they defeat. There is more reward in it (and better application of the status quo) for specific enemy group if the character is "captured", rather than just killed outright. Maybe have a mission roleplayed out to free the captive.

But automatically assuming a single defeat equals instant death at the hands of every single known enemy group? Sorry, you're wrong.

It does with this group. There are almost zero villain groups that even use weapons/abilities one could consider remotely non-lethal. You go down in a storm of bullets without the government's fancy hospital teleportation device, you stay down.

And despite the defeat/kill inconsistencies, CoH villain groups are really never shown to be the kind to spare a hero, especially one for whom there would be no ransom.

Besides, we do allow powerset rez powers. If one's available, the rest of the team can save your bacon. If not, well it's not really a big surprise that Jimmy, the axe-wielding moonlighting mechanic, couldn't bring you back to life.

If one of these guys honestly makes L50 under these conditions, I'll be surprised and impressed. (Challenge and Fun seem to be a bigger concern than Leveling and Gain.)
I wish them luck in thier SG.

Is this thing still going? I have been playing HC on my own for a couple of months. I have always wished that there was a HC server offered in CoH (a la Diablo2) for those who preferred this style of play. I do go to Wentorths, but do not allow myself any from of rezzing, be it self-rez or otherwise. I also forgive my deaths if they happen as the result of mapserver error or true lag spike, but don't forgive anything else. I also don't take gifts or anything like that.

I would be willing to join a SG like this, although I would prefer that no rezzing of any kind be permitted, and that solo play was permitted. But I could live witht the rules as they were laid out back in december.

Let me know...ericmft@cox.net

I've gotten to 45 on a Storm/Ice defender using similar rules. No deaths of any kind in my rules. And I was less concerned with the items rules. I died from a thorn tree 1 shot on a STF. I had already completed an Imperious TF. I could have easily made 50 by avoiding the riskier content, but then what would be the point. I play with similar rules a lot. No solo (since soloing to 50 without deaths would mean almost nothing), no deaths, mostly PuG (but do TFs from globals sometimes). My other fun rule was I would never leave a team for performance reasons. Just because a team sucked, that was no excuse to abandon them like a wimp. I've seen a few teams wipe 2-3 times and I survived it. I don't really care for the organized hardcore groups because I really enjoy the unpredictability of PuGs. Seeing the same people the whole time would take away some of the excitement for me because we might actually play together well. If you can get through the 20s, things really get a ton easier after that. I've had a Tank, Blaster, and Peacebringer up to 25 or so, and an Arachnos Soldier to 22. Good luck with your group!

Sign me up finally a Super group with balls that actually roleplays consequences and such. But I mainlly play villain archtypes so when GR releases I will look you up.

My goal isn’t necessarily to make it to 50 without dying. What I am trying to accomplish is to challenge myself in game that has not been especially challenging for a while now. To achieve that goal I set up some parameters to make the game increasingly more challenging as the hero went up in level.

At 5th level I set the mission difficulty to allow fighting bosses when solo. At 10th level I set the mission difficulty to +1 level. At 15th level I set the mission difficulty to equivalent of 2 heroes. At 20th level I set the difficulty to +2 levels…and died shortly after that. I have not achieved 25th level but when I do I will up the difficulty to equivalent of 3 heroes.

I have played 10 toons to date with varied success.

Here are the toons and how they did:

Ad Infinitum – Tanker – Willpower/Stone Melee – 8th Level
Azure Icicle – Blaster – Ice Blast/Devices – 18th Level
Grey Ghost – Controller – Illusion Control/Kinetics – 8th Level
Broken Arrow – Defender – Radiation Emission/Archery – 10th Level
Voltaic Blade – Scrapper – Dual Blades/Electric Armor – 10th Level
Axe Man – Tanker – Shield Defense/War Mace – 6th Level
Incendiary Mind – Blaster – Fire Blast/Mental Manipulation – 11th Level
Inertia – Controller – Gravity Control/Trick Arrow – 15th Level
Thunderstorm – Defender – Storm Summoning/Electrical Blast – 17th Level
Ebon Fist – Scrapper – Dark Melee/Shield Defense – 20th Level

I have been playing all the HC/Permadeath toons on Freedom and am going to statr a thread over in the Freedom posting area.

My global is ericvk and if anyone who wants to play this format wants to join me then feel free to look me up!
