Purple Recipies

hey guys, I have just returned to the game after about a year off. I was wondering what is the best way to pick up Purple Recipies. Are they more likely to drop on Raids and TFs? Or is it viable to just farm lvl 50 mobs? Can anyone help?

Thanks

Purples drop from anything 47+ that would drop a Level 50 recipe. One of the strategies I've heard most often is to use the new difficulty system. Set the Mobs to be -1 to you and run it as 8 players. Now find a cozy farm mish that you love and consume mass quantities.

It's all just a numbers game. Kill a ton and sift through their wallets till you strike gold...er purple.

Setting the difficulty to -1/x8 and mowing through missions is the quickest way to make recipes drop; assuming that your character is level 48 (or above) and the mobs are level 47 (or above) this will be the quickest way to make purples drop.

On the other hand, let's assume you're doing this with your level 50 something, fighting level 49 spawns. They'll drop common IO recipes like Invention: Damage at level 50, some of which sell for over 100k. They'll also drop uncommon and rare recipes AT LEVEL 49.

In general, almost every recipe that's worth selling at Wentworth's goes for much less at 49 than it would at 50. Just looking at the market quickly this morning, there's two Obliteration recipes that are going for 25 and 30 million at level 50, and for 7 and 18 million at level 49. Sell enough of either of those and you'll be BUYING your own purple recipes with the profits -- but the bigger profits come from those level 50 recipes.

I still say the best way to farm purples is to play a toon you like, play it a LOT, and purples eventually drop. Playing a hyper-efficient farming toon you're not fond of just seems like another job or something.

Luckily my "hyper-efficient farming toon" is one with 105% recharge (WITHOUT HASTEN), was first to hit the 1 bil inf cap on COV and is fun to death to play.

Just saying. For some folks farming IS fun.

Blazara Aura LVL 50 Fire/Psi Dom (with 125% recharge)
Flameboxer Aura LVL 50 SS/Fire Brute
Ice 'Em Aura LVL 50 Ice Tank
Darq Widow Fortune LVL 50 Fortunata (200% rech/Night Widow 192.5% rech)--thanks issue 19!

Someone should also mention, that probabilty-wise, a purple should drop in about 1 out of 5000 kills. Of course, individual results vary.

I'm not sure who said that, but I've seen that number posted a few times. So I cant point you a source right now.

Yeah my Farming toon is a Fire/Kin with flaming babies of Death. I enjoy it completely. But thats blue side. Anyone have any good farming ideas for red? I have a mid-level SS/WP Brue and a nearly 50 Fire/Psi Dom. I like the brute more but the dom is closeer to 50.

Depends on your time schedule. If you don't have the time to play, use the market. If you do have a lot of spare time then farm and pick a very fast efficient farmer. I'd suggest looking at Cat's thread, Fire/Kins and Elec/Shield seem to be the fastest and are able to generate around 10+ million influence per hour. So it will take you around 20 hours to get 1 of the good superior recipes.

I think it really depends on what mobs you want to fight. I have two farm-worthy brutes, but some mobs (Carnies) are harder to deal with than others (Freakshow). My Dom is only level 37, but not too sure how good a farmer he will be. It really depends on your play style.

Paragon wiki had it as 1/3500, top doc listed his as 1/1800. My own results are around 1/3500. That is only at times I actually track, it doesn't include teams.

I'm waiting on Archie's compilation of several peoples results.

I dont earn enough purples to get a good result on my own.

Speaking of which i need to submit another chunk of logfiles to him.

Since I turned on the chat logs on several of my characters (before pohsyb's purple drop fix), I've had six purples drop. Scanning those same logs I've had 25,000 lines with "You have defeated" in them. This includes many hours of play in AE and many hours with characters less than level 47, and many Mayhem missions where I defeated fire hydrants.

I think the 1 in 5,000 number is a bit high, but it's certainly within reasonable statistical variation. The 1 in 3,500 value is more in line with my experience.

Let's see, quick summary of the thread, rounding to the nearest million:

30 Plant/Storm
29 Electric/Shield Scrapper
28 Electric/Shield Scrapper
26 Fire/Kin
25 Electric Shield Scrapper
24 Fire/Shield Scrapper
24 Dark Melee/Shield Scrapper
18 Electric/Shield Brute
17 Fire/Fire Tank
17 Dark Melee/Shield Scrapper
15 Claws/Super Reflexes Scrapper
15 Fire/Kin
15 Fire/Kin
13 Katana/Dark Scrapper
11 Fire/Fire Brute
9 Katana/Willpower Scrapper
8 Fire/Energy Tank
7 Fire/Super Reflexes Scrapper
6 Fire/Super Reflexes Scrapper
6 Fire/Shield Scrapper
3 Super Strength/Fire Brute
3 VEAT Huntsman
1 Mind/Force Field Controler

Please also note that all numbers include drops at vendor rates only. This is measuring influence generated, not influence transferred through market sales. You'd actually bring in significantly more than that on average from market sales.

Oh yeah -- no argument there! Some people LIKE to farm the same missions over and over, some people enjoy it in smaller doses or with friends, and some people prefer to make their money in Market PvP.

I just hate sometimes seeing where some new (or returning) player thinks the ONLY way to get purples is to try to grind out missions with their level 50, perhaps-not-terribly-efficient character, or they start getting bored or frustrated with their "farm toon." We've all seen those threads: "I've run [insert map here] [insert number here] times with my [insert level/archetype here] and I HAVEN'T GOTTEN A SINGLE PURPLE!"

Maybe I should have said "the best way to acquire purple recipes is to go do something YOU find fun, possibly involving level 47+ enemies, and remember that "ultra rare" means just that." I'm pretty sure nobody ever purpled out their warshade from drops which they got themself from defeated enemies in one night. Saving up and then blowing a couple billion INF in one night? I've read a couple of those accounts, but that's not the same.

The drop rate for purple recipes is not being understood well by people. It's not a separate pool with a 1/1800, 1/3500 or 1/5000 drop rate; it's part of Pool A, which we already know the drop rates to: 2.66% for a minion, 5.33% for a lieutenant, 8% for a boss. What we don't know exactly is the common/uncommon/rare/purple drop ratio once a recipe actually does drop.

Based on my own data (using DropStats on my solo defeat logs), it currently appears that the drop distribution is: 75% common; 20% uncommon; 3.5% rare; 1.5% purple. The margin of error is kinda high, because I only had about 30,000 defeats in my logs.

If you wanted a drop-per-defeat number, we can base that off the 1.5% number:

- Minions have a 2.66% chance to drop a recipe. 2500 kills = 66.65 recipes, 1.5% of that = 1 purple recipe. So 1 in 2500 minions.

- Lieunenants have a 5.33% drop rate, so half that. One in 1250 lieutenants.

- Bosses have a 8% drop rate, so one in 833 bosses.

Again, note that the 1.5% number has a high margin of error, 30,000 defeats is a drop in the bucket. I get bored very quickly when I try to farm, which is why I haven't gotten any more data.

I have one toon for each side Blue MA/WP and Red NW they both take about 20 mins to do a full mish. After about an average of 4 - 5 mishes I get a purple drop while inbetween I am getting loads of high priced uncommons and rare recipes along with atleast one rare salvage per mish, and about 6 - 9 commons that sell for 100K a piece.

Mishes are set for -1/x8 with bosses. If you can do this with a toon you love to play with you won't get bored. I like showing off each of their strengths so I enjoy every minute I solo a map set for 8.

Also I only do paper mishes with Council, if none are available, I just re zone, they are the easiest to take on.
