Possible to buy a US account with pounds?

I'm entertaining the idea of getting a US account for a month or so over the holiday period, to take a peek US side. Just wondering on a few details, though;

-Does buying a US game charge dollars, and thus the exchange rate as well?
-How do you go about applying that US version to your NC account? Does it need updating?
-I take it the Booster packs only work on the specific versions, EU and US?

And, the actualy in-game question;
-Which server US side if the 'Home' of RP?

Virtue is the unofficial roleplaying server, but there are good RPers on all servers.

I'm in the UK, and whilst I have a (mostly inactive) Euro A/c my main for a year now has been an NA.

The subscription is charged in $, so I suppose what I'm actually charged does vary from month to month based on the exchange rate.
Whether I log into My Account from the NA or EU site it takes me to the same page, with each account listed separately.
NA and EU Booster Packs are as separate products so I assume you'd need to buy the NA packs to add it to an NA account.

You'd also need to install the NA client. Between the NA, EU and Test clients I dread to think how much space this game takes up on my hard drive. (still probably less than WoW...)

If you go to Virtue, beware Pocket D

Edit: you'll need a credit card or paypal to pay for a NA sub. Debit cards (like Maestro) aren't accepted, as I discovered when trying to renew last month while eperiencing a small... ahem... difficulty... with paypal. Very annoying since it meant I lost out on the loyalty program by less than a week

Nightshade got it right as far as I found out for myself. I am charged in Dollars on my credit card using the normal excange rates for Euros in my case.

I have had to buy the special packs I wanted. Make sure you buy the correct ones. In my case there is a small hyperlink under each pack for the US version.

(I am incredibly sorry for that joke.)

You can now pay for a new pair of optics...

Yep. Even us Canuckers have to deal with this.

I was under the impression that the EU and NA clients were the same, it was the login you use that makes the difference.

Specifically, you need a card that can do credit purchases over the net, but it doesn't need to be a credit card as such. There are a few cards banks offer that are, in fact, debit, in that they're linked to your account and draw money from it, rather than charging up credit you have to pay for later on, but they are accepted for credit purchases just the same.

Also, you'll need a brand new account with brand new boosters and veteran rewards for the US side. Your EU ones won't apply.

My NA and EU accounts are on the same master NCSoft account, so they have the same login details. The EU client is a separate install, which I believe is one of the reasons why the EU and NA server lists can't be easily merged.

You could try what i've done once or twice when bored and run an American Trial for 2 weeks.?

Bit more restricted obviously but works of the same client , i just had to have a separate shortcut to it.

Let's you see how busy the various servers are etc.

Its two different clients, and its very very easy to get your EU client, without having to download it off the site etc, to become a US client. You have to make a copy of the EU client, and then you gotta right click it and click on properties, where it says 'Target' you just gotta get rid of the 'EU' and then a bit further down, the 'start in', take away the EU... this might not be the EXACT procedures that need to take place, but over a year ago when I left the EU servers to play on Freedom, I did something like this.

Hope this helps for the OP in some shape or form.

If those are the steps to getting an NA client from an EU client, then they are the same thing.

When I was porting my files off my laptop to my new rig, I had to stop the CoX uploader from updating to the US one a few times (they get a shinier front page than us! ¬¬)

So I know I can copy-paste-edit that with a bit of trial and error.
Hmm...Curious

And cynically I'm fairly sure that EU players buying NA accounts alongside their 'main' EU accounts is another reason for NC to delay a server list merge (even if they eventually swap completely). And if enough do this, they get 2 lots of subs for the switchover period and then can close the EU servers for low population - all the effects of a list merge with no cost and extra subs.

Of course, that's the cynic in me and no doubt far, far removed from the reality.

But Heck - a list merge would be such a nice Christmas present.

I am afraid that your cynical viewpoint could be right JD. I fell for it and I am not the only one that's for sure.

If there's a list merge, people with both NA and EU accounts would be just like people with two NA accounts (or two EU accounts).

As a Brit who bought a US subscription well before the game was released in the UK, this is how it's worked for me.

I bought the US version of the game and used my UK card, everything about exchange rates seems to be handled by the banks and your bank statement will have the amount in Pounds.

I'm not sure how you apply it to your account, you may need to buy the US version of the game again.

Booster Packs are region specific, you'll need to buy US codes to work with your US account and EU codes to work with your EU account. The NCStore provides a link on each booster pack page to go to the US versions.

Virtue is the unofficial RP server.
