Lost curing wand

potential spoilers ahead...

Quick question; It's been a while since I've run Montague Castanella's arc, but, since when were the Rikti made incurable? It doesn't really change anything, it's not like it was hard to find 20 of the jerks. And I can see why; all those non-former-human Rikti mobs that the wand would "cure"... but it made me go "awww "... 'specially after dodging hordes of purple conning Hydra to find them in the abandoned sewers, and then verifying that the 'ineffective' message wasn't just from the level disparity by checking in the RWZ...

I rather thought it only ever worked on the Lost.

They aren't Lost. Lost are mutated and you help them get back. Rikti are aliens. You can't cure them of that.

Meanwhile, Lost Wand sucks. IMO.

It did, it was always a Lost only cure. The full Rikti are far, far too gone to get back.

Is that not a major spoiler?

Not really any more so than the entire thread where OP asks if the Lost Curing Wand works on Rikti. (Hint: There would not be a chance of this unless there is a link between the Lost & the Rikti.)

It's too late by the time Chyll posts...

The name of this thread is "Lost curing wand."

It wasn't the title - it was OP's question of "when were the Rikti made incurable" by the LCW. To me that made the thread "spoilerish".

No big deal either way, since you are correct that someone just scanning titles wouldn't come into the thread seeking info about a possible link between Lost & Rikti anyway.

Do you recall where it was the last time you saw it?

Yeah, true, but I totally spoiled it for myself it when I read the labeled spoiler at Paragon Wiki. But I'm kindof a spoiler reader for most things.

Yes, it did.

And it was specifically and intentionally changed to *not* work on Rikti, it was never supposed to, but the Lost and the Rikti share the same internal faction and that was the source of the original bug allowing it to work on Rikti.

Story-wise, it only makes sense for it to work on the Lost. Mechanics-wise, allowing it to work on Rikti cause huge problems for certain other missions against the Rikti.

Definitely used to; I remember 'cure'ing Rikti drones, monkeys, and even portals summoned by Communications Officers in the past... Now I can't even cure the Comm Officers themselves.

Not saying that it doesn't make sense that the wand now only cures the lost, hence the name... Just wanted to have some fun with my remaining 30-ish charges, but now have no reason not to turn in both the mission, and the wand.

EDIT:

Yeah... I kinda figured the mechanics of curing the Rikti would result in problems. Cuing the Rikti being intended or not, those problems were probably the catalyst of the change.

I always liked the idea of the Lost curing wand. I picture my hero hanging out in Kings Row when a homeless guy runs up.

"Hey, remember me? I used to be a huge dude with a TV on his head who swung a giant sword made out of a car fender and who held groups of lesser men in awe. I'd stand on a box and preach to them about the coming times and they would stare at me, taking in my words. Now you've cured me and I'm a weak homeless guy who gets shaken down by Hellion recruits on a daily basis. So... umm... thanks for that."

It's awesome when you run into a big group of Lost and cure one...the rest of the group immediately turns and begins attacking them. Of course, then you have to chase the rest of the Lost around and cure/turn them on each other.

Cure worse than the disease?

I think it was about the same time they made it not work on Kurse. Because letting it work on an EB/AV was too much.

How so? It does what it is intended to do, and it is auto hit.

Plus, it makes a really neat magic wand for my magical heroes and villains:

Even more fun is curing them and then leading them into a pack of Clockwork or Vhaz.

Heck, curing them in a group is enough to get the rest of the pack to start in on the poor guy.

True, but there is something amusing about watching a pack of robots chase after them.

Think of it as a hazing ritual...initiating them back into the fraternity known as Humanity.

Eek. I didn't even think about it at the time. Apologies. My head was here:

Dang.

Given the (albeit relatively few) posts earlier than mine, I hope this was really true:

Since we're into discussing spoilers...

Is Hero One now a full Rikti or still in some sort of conversion state like the Lost.
If the latter, would the Lost Cure Wand work on him?

He's nearly completely Rikitified. When you fight him, his dialogue shows he's trying to fight it, but can't. The in-game text makes it seem like he's too far gone for any simple solution and that they'll be working on a cure that will require a lot of experimental work, so, he's up in the air now on whether he'll ever be cured.
